I plan to go BKK for 5 days.
Issit better if i stay around pratunam (budacco or baiyoke or citin) or stay somewhere in sukhumvit near the asok skytrain station? in terms of general convenience getting around BKK etc.

just came back from bangkok on Monday. Stayed at Citin Pratunam... no danger of protests anywhere nearby there. However, the hotel really not visible from the main roads and need to walk about 1km to Ratchathewi skytrain. They provide free tuk tuk out from hotel but not back to hotel from skytrain.

MBK and Platinum mall are open. Suan Lum night bazaar open also (although when i was there it looked like a ghost town...nobody in that area). Silom is not a good place to be right now.

That being said... from personal experience.. if u want to just do shopping at MBK and Platinum mall, then it's fine. If not then i think this is not a good time to go Bangkok coz basically all other malls are closed and you never know when the skytrain will be suspended again (it was suspended for a day when i was there last week).

Do take note that most taxis will take advantage of this unstable situation in Bangkok now. A lot of taxis do not want to use meter especially at night.

Finally, if u fancy seeing soldiers and police everywhere then Bangkok is your ideal place right now! tongue.gif

a note for anyone who wants to go to wat phra kaew (grand palace), there will be some guys telling u that it's closed due to prayers etc.. but trust me.. it's always opened. dont believe what they say.
also if u feel that 350 bath is expensive (well actually it is), then just look for a bunch of thai ppl and follow them in the thai lane at the entrance. of course if you dont look abit like a local at all... then tough luck. tongue.gif
