I was in Bangkok from 1st Feb till 5 Feb...

True do not give free sim card. But u can just buy it at their counter.
Once u walk out from the Arrive Hall, turn to right... U will see the True Counter. Even with data plan is not expensive too.

The guy even help us to active on the spot.

I wonder whats wrong buying at the airport, since is a True Mobile permanent counter.

Nothing wrong just more expensive than 7/11. I can get it only 50THB for the starter pack. I guess airport is higher if not mistaken

Can try best western mayfair suite. CHeck directly on their website for rate or via PYO trvl website. They are near in a sense they have the tuk tuk shuttle to take u to the nearest drop off and call them to pick u up oso once u r done. All within a few km from their hotel .they dun take u far.Love d room compare to the few u mention.

Otherwise d regular hotel I used to stay is PR Place which is very convenient.Cost 800THB onwards Less than 10 min walk to Airport Raiway Link which will cost me 40THB a way fr Airport.Walking distance to Pratunam n Indira Square.Walk abt 1 km to Platinum mall

All not near u except d one I have mentioned.JJ mkt u can take taxi (may be 30 min) BTS or MRTA to go. Grand palace take BTS to Saphan Thaksin and take ferry taxi (d one that local ppl use not the tourist one which cost more) - 45 min - 1 hr (BTS, ferry & waiting & walking time)

Floating mkt (out of BKK city) u can hire a private taxi (may cost u a bomb) or go to tour agency to make arrangement in which they can pick u up fr the hotel

Google for BTS or MRTA MAP to guide u on how to get there or how u can use them to get to yr destination or travel around from where u r staying

My opinion u should... Just 2 weeks away only. No harm going to check some good deals especially accommodation.

Last 2 years ago I went and quite a number of Thailand hotels offer good deals...

The deal is for Krabi not bkk. However price wise cheaper plus freebies like free airport transfer both way. And free upgrade. Even got a free hotel dinner complimentary for 1nite.

Depends on ur budget and motive la.. If shopping I recommend pratunam area coz near to platinum, Siam square mbk etc malls.

If sightseeing can consider silom. Quite nicey as high class district..

But for me any hotel that is within walking distance frm bts will be fine. Their public tranport is cheap and timely... Very convenient can go almost everywhere with bts.

I will be in BKK with 2 girlfriends for a shopping trip in 2 weeks time but I have some questions and hope u all can help. Thanks first.

1. Whats the best data plan to use with iphone? Which service provider?
2. Is it true that BKK exchange rate will be better than KL? meaning its more worth it to change in bkk rather than here?
3. To those who went there to shop, how do u manage your cash? Do u just bring a few thousand ringgit and walk around with the cash or do u use travellers cheque and such?

thanks a million.

1. True Network, scroll few post back or google for more info. Coz I didn't get it.

2. Really depends but I can say 90% changing in ur home country is always cheaper.

3. Cimb bank is quite active in Thailand. So I activated my international use of my Cimb ATM service. Rate was good also. Just slightly more expensive than I change in kl.

floating market is rip off!!
Carefull....a taxi ride to the place may cause you rm 100+
Once you reach there for the boat ride..get ready...they will go for killing!!

On lucky days maybe rm150+ per person on a sampan ride!!!
you have no choice because its like 1.5hrs away from bangkok!!

Be ready to spend if you want this tour!!

Try PR PLACE APARTMENT.
Cheap and clean, apartment very spacious too.
Best thing is the location, it's near the Platinum Mall.

The Damnoen Saduak market?
Yes, that's a tourist trap.
If you want to go to a floating market, go to the one in Amphawa.
You can take the bus / mini van from Victory Monument to Makeglong but its about 2 hours bus ride, if I remember correctly.
It only opens during the weekends though. The things are cheap and lots of locals.
Before that you can even go to the Maeklong Railway market.
