Albert :
.....this was a self funded project to explore and discover what kind of photography comes out from me... me and my model have a mutual benefit deal where the photos that i produce she gets them for free and we both bear the cost of the project... when i set out to singapore i had 9 goals to achieve..... 1)shooting street portraits : fun casual (trying to capture happiness, energy life) ![]() 2)Portrait lighting....(this one..i discovered...that i lack a lot of equipment...but make do as we can...) 3)Expressing vivid emotion from a still shot 4)MY PROJECT(top secret)........lalalala 5)explore face paint to change a look completely ![]() 6)Learn how to handle a model, and practice trying to GET the perfect reaction from her 7)Getting to know how the human body looks in different perspectives, views, angles, and depth of field 8)Not forgetting to have fun...coz if we are doing what we love....why suffer? 9)to expand my creativity by creating the optimum mood when editing photos and to perfect my workflow every goal that i listed has either been achieved...or taught me SO MUCH....... and i realize that there is so much to improve...but im getting there....even if i have weaknesess......at least I KNOW the face of my demons now..... they arent as scary anymore hope it explains what i set out to achieve with my photos.... Added on February 24, 2010, 7:04 pmkoolmoo : why err? pss..forgive the nudity..it was a beach..i can be forgiven no? This post has been edited by braindead_fr3ak: Feb 24 2010, 07:04 PM |

NOT BAD deduction for number 3! close enough .... the message i was portraying was "being a woman" ... beauty is one face of it, the price payed in blood for red , and white for purity(most of them lah...wink....not those who keep handcuffs and are not cops) and the fetal positon representing creation..... i have a few more of these kinda photos... but i doubt they would be appreciated here ahahhaha..... with regards to the shoot... it was an awesome success..!! i had an awesome tiring crazy freaky enlightening time.... |

zergling : you are right...but its not just a palm tree...its a oil palm seedling
Lugimcg : not cameron, its in kedah.... albert : hmmm.. i should love to go for darrens workshop..lets see after szetoos workshop on sunday. Alienbees have got me tingling... ahahhaha.. with regards to the photo that ive posted....as i said on top..this is a oil palm seedling, Malaysia's MAIN agricultural produce which actually places our country on the world map as one of the largest producers of crude palm oil. For those who dont know, palm oil is the basic reagent used in producing all sorts of downstream products, such as margarine, pharmaceuticals, creams, cooking oil, and so on. The backdrop of that particular seedling is the Titiwangsa mountain ranges which is also known as the backbone of MAlaysia. hence with the framing of a oil palm seedling which is a part or our economic backbone together ourgeophysical backbone of our country it represents two elements of our country, Malaysia.... and why a seedling? ... cause we are a developing country, advanced in technology , but still having a immature society...... Sharing of thoughts.....
In taking a photo, what is the esscence of your image? What do you see through the lens that may capture the heart of a passerby? Is it worth a second glance? For we are not "Shooters" and we are not "click-ers". The press of a button shall not just capture an image, but frame the distilled concentrate of life. Whether it lies in contemplative thinking, sheer beauty or provocative thought, a photograph must never be taken for granted. It is in the neglect of thought process and internal delving to find meaning that truly results in the mass produced photographers today. Technology has made it easy, cheap and efficient, but it is man who still take art for granted. Remember, twas man who created the machine, not the machine who created man........hence twas man who fabricated the camera, let not the camera take over the man............ |

lugiamcg : i believe it is not that you dont have creativity. Everyone has creativity, but creativity alone is not enough... to apply raw creativity to produce something beautiful is mainly applicable to rare gifted individuals such as savants. We , the average man/woman must learn, experience, see, feel and practice to be able to apply our creativity into something aesthetic, that can be appreciated by another. In photography, there are rules( i prefer to think of them as guidelines) to make a photograph in terms or lighting, composition, arrangement of subject, perception and dof. By constantly experimenting with these parameters and pushing them using imagination or just random ideas.....isnt that creativity?...
instead of trying to copy what every one else is doing....why not try to think outside the box , to do something everyone says is difficult, something no one has thought of. It doesnt matter if at first no one understands what you are doing, but here we have many experienced photographers who actually DO understand and are willing to teach and guide PROVIDED that you show that their time and effort will not be wasted...( eg : Ier and albert ..to name a few...) Secondly, read...ahahah.....only by opening your own mind can you truly be creative.... |

by read i mean in general.... read about life, about countries about relations, politics, the world, current issues, about human nature, biology, architecture, love, war.....peace...animal rights.... basically ANYTHING! this will give u SO much raw material to mould into your shots.... when u know more and experience more, you will suddenly begin to see great subjects with deep meaning from everyday "mundane" objects..... suddenly things make sense...suddenly you realize what those pros mean with photos that you never really understood before....
THEN ... photography becomes a joy........ |

nashakir : yep of course...as i said earlier...instead of opting for the "spoonfeed me please " mindset, it would be SO much better and more effective if you tryout your ideas, see your results, then ask for advice on specifics of the photo. Never will research and online teaching ever come close to real life situations.
1-2 successes in 10 experiments is a DAMN fine success if u ask me !...u have learnt 2 seperate things...and if u think about it a while, even TEN failures out of ten is still fine by me...because then you would have real experience regarding 10 ways of NOT to photograph things. Real experience always will better experienced gained from being taught. However this is my opinion, I am fairly certain there are gifted individuals out there who can convert theory into real life with the ease of popping a candy bar.....however...it is most often NOT the case |
