Just wanna ask, how big is the size difference between the M15x and M17x? it's not really that much of a difference, is it?

Want to get the M15x but a little concerned about the weight.
What's the total weight of the M15x + Power adaptor + 9-cell batt?

There are Alienware units on display at Low Yat right? Which shop are they in? Is it possible to buy directly from them?

@emino: So what's your opinion of the M11x? Is the processor powerful enough for gaming? And what about the build quality?

Photoshop, Illustrator (Main task)

I don't think the M11x's C2D SU7300 can handle Photoshop/Illustrator as those are pretty CPU-intensive. What I don't know is the gaming aspect.

Seems to be like that...
I've had my DeathAdder for over 2 years now, and 85% of the rubber has already peeled off, and not to mention the middle mouse button isn't working anymore. Nice mouse tho.

Still pushing for budget increase to fund the M15x baseline model smile.gif

with the core 2 duo 2.8ghz proc, there is no bottleneck since ur using sli??
then this is great news for me!!

n can u guys tell me what is the minimum processor that can be used with sli to avoid the bottleneck?

To answer your original question, a 2.8GHz one will be great, but if you're stuck with the 2.53GHz one, it's not the end of the world.

Are you sure you want to get the M17x?
I don't want to confuse you even more, but IMO you seem to be concentrating on the fact that the M17x has SLI, and nothing else.

SLI *is* powerful, and getting it free is one hell of a good deal, but you shouldn't stress yourself to fit in processor/display for the 30% extra graphics performance that SLI offers.

With a less powerful processor, SLI doesn't become useless, it just causes stuff like complex calculations etc to become slower. For example, in strategy games, the processor is doing a lot of work because it has to calculate all the units' actions, explosions etc on the battlefield.
In games like L4D2 the processor also has to work harder when you get attacked by many, many zombies.

So it actually depends on what you want to use your M17x for. So if you get it now, no regrets, be happy with it and take care of it smile.gif

the real bottleneck will occur when you choose i7 for gaming.

Now it's my turn to be worried. sad.gif
Almost about to buy the M15x. Always thought i7 optimization thingy was a problem, but not a big one.

but sometimes, this defect can be compensate by your GTX260M. ask around, they will say their gaming performance is not as bad as its rumors - since GTX260M cover this disadvantages for them.

Um. Nope. Going for baseline model.

My 2007 desktop rig is a 2.2GHz C2D/2GB DDR2 667/8800GT.
If the lappy can perform gaming at the same level then I'm happy dy...
