The brands that I saw include Shell, Bardahl & Castrol.

From the pics, I can gather that, the syndicate bought the big barrel engine oil (205L), fill normal grade engine oil into bottles meant for synthetic oil.

While for normal grade one, they recycle used oil.

Anyway, the Shell Helix Ultra in the pic are old packing. So beware of that.

I also remember reading a similar news about fake engine oil involving old recycled oil mixed with chemical and then filtered to make it look clear again.

Didnt know that the syndicate is still operating so big.

There's a pic of blank & empty bottles.

Those are containers for Bardahl lubricants.

In fact, there's a saying that the syndicate is also buying used engine oil bottles for 50cents each off workshops.

if you're lucky enough, you might be able to tell the difference based on the quality of the packing. Usually these fake products have slightly different packing compared to the original bottles. A few weeks ago I bought this product and found the label is kinda badly put on (like by hand-cincai, instead of machine). So I checked with the manufacturer and he confirmed it was fake.

Or, you could avoid them completely and buy your goods from established places like Eneos/Toyota Centre/etc...not some random workshop. These places less likely to have fake products...although they might charge a bit more than some places.

I just wanted to send my car to change oil luckily saw this thread before sending it.

How much do mechs charge for "service charge" if I bring my own oil for them to change?

I guess I'll buy the oil from petrol stations (Primax ones good?). Should be safest gua.

could range from 10-15 bucks. Maybe more during this festive season. Petrol stations good choice...or at least they're better than workshops.

Horrid, next time after servicing, I'll ask for the bottle, destroy the piece of label and scratch the bottle before I'd return to them or just dump it away. doh.gif
Won't stop them I think, but just the thought of these crooks making so much money at the expense of the reliability of our cars make me mad. vmad.gif

If you see oil is slightly darker than your usual or original oil... high posibility it's a fake/recycled.

please service your car from authorised workshop if possible. It might be more expensive but peace of mind.

I cannot then go to those workshop you are familiar with. Insist on quality. If in doubt then go to another shop. If consumer do their part and take precaution, there is no way those fake products can survive.

Malaysia is like that, everything has imitation. For most consumers like us, we won't even know which is genuine and which is not. I guess buying from Petrol Station is still the best way to determine.

sh!t

now we have to buy our own engine oil for service workshops..
U'll never know what kind of oil they will use for your car.. if your engine condemn they will gain more from you for repairing the engine..

I think buying from Petrol Stations or sending your car directly to your the manufacturer's workshop for service is the best way to ensure they use genuine engine oil..

1 word of advice, don't trust SC 100%,ever see Honda Vtec oil for sale at small workshops?

Wonder how they got it?

Honda mech's sold it to them for cheap!

Wonder how they got it?

Hope you figured it out by now.

better buy from petrol station and keep the receipt....heard some people do analyst on used engine oil and this people can detect whether the oil are fake or original spec

workshop love if people car damage by their fake oil and they can blame the car manufacture as an excuse to gain easy money...

the conn workshop use fake oil on our car service later the engine damage then conn workshop use blame the car manufacture quality as an excuse.

easy to figure out this scenario....easy money by blame other and escape from responsibility

The authorised SC, some uses 4L bottle (and return excess to u).

Some bought barrels (205L) & pump out fr it. Don't worry, it's still genuine lubricant. This kind of setup, usually u won't get any excess back.

It's norm for engine to feel slightly heavy at 8-9k km. One of the causes is the oil filter, if it's not changed at 5000km.

If u smell carbon or see residue in the engine oil that's drain out of the engine. Good! Means the engine oil is doing what it should.

with new oil in, the engine should run quieter & revs lighter.

1 word of advice, don't trust SC 100%,ever see Honda Vtec oil for sale at small workshops?

Wonder how they got it?

Honda mech's sold it to them for cheap!
*
This is ur own assumption.

The fact is, there're merchants importing Manufacturer Labelled lubricant into M'sia.
Maybe it's easier to convince ppl that it's the RIGHT product for their car.

And note, it's NOT Honda, Toyota or Nissan etc. that are bringing these stuffs in. It's a separate 3rd party. And all these so called authorised SC is buying from these importer/distributor.

So yes, u can find genuine Honda VTEC engine oil, Honda CVT oil, Toyota ATF-IV oil, Toyota engine oil etc at spare parts store. And they are not stolen from SC.

But I don't deny that there're bad apples working at SC, after claiming the parts from the store, keep it themselves and didn't install it.

This just my part to reduce the fake oil filter in Malaysia...every time of engine oil changed i'll ask for the old filter and new filter box and i'll with tear the box and smash the oil filter with hammer before giving the oil filter back to the car shop. Sc and non Sc i have to do this biggrin.gif ...

Recently there is a case that the car repair shop will just clean the old oil filter and give back to spare part shop to sell or this car shop will use the old oil filter to install it to another victim car sweat.gif resulting damaging car engine.

if just can make a small dent on oil filter also good cos the oil filter need/have to be recycle back into bare metal and produce back into oil filter or other metal product rclxms.gif but if there is no dent or damage on the oil filter..i'm afraid this big time con will sell it again by just cleaning the oil filter.

Bosch,Denso,Proton,Toyota and many more that selling in the spare part shop but not in the SC can be consider as fake product especially with Bosch product lately selling in the spare part shop hmm.gif .Spare part shop are the same as Jalan Pasar heaven of counterfeit product imho hmm.gif

You all also can try this method with other old car spare part ...damge the part before trow it into bin or before giving back to the car repair shop

3L for 5/30 semi synthetic synthium 800 from petronas wud be rm75
while 3L for 5/30 semi synthetic which is 'petronas rebadge' just rm59 for silver bottle.. and rm69 for gold bottle.. for gold bottle they wud call it as 'Semi SM version".. but once i was lucky that i get the 3L 5/30 synthium 800 from petronas station for rm60.. hehe wrongly tagged the price maybe hahaha...

Better buy the oil from Petrol Station rather than be sorry for buying fake middle hand people selling unknown brand and recycle oil putting inside shell helix ,penzoil, royalpurple, toyota, nissan, mitsubishi, mobil 1,

avoid buying oil from spare part shop cos this shop its like Jalan Pasar selling pirate stuff and getting big profit cheat people.

You have some stupid people buying fake oil unknowingly, took it to official SC and insist it be used. And when problem starts, they insist the SC honor the engine warranty. You think they will?

carrefour and tesco wont take the risk of selling fake oils. usually they are able to sell oil cheaper because they get from their parent supply chain.

One of the oil company marketing to prevent fake product are to offer official free gift ( towel, cap, bag..etc) from the company..it very easy for "pirate" to make a same bottle, same packaging, sticker like original Eo from their product one but to make a fake same free gift promotion offer is very difficult..thats why make sure u check the lates promotion from the EO company what their latest freegift come with EO...and when u buy from the spare part shop ask them any free gift include? if not better walkaway...99% they r selling fake EO..

btw my opinion with the free gift maybe relevant with expensive EO grade like semi and fully syntentic...not sure mineral base always come with free gift or not...

These days, people only care about making money hence all those dishonest businesses just keep coming. This is after all just to damage car engine, can still repair at a price. Imagine those who sells fake foods and fake medicine! How cruel they are, that's almost like a clod blooded murderer. mad.gif

Anyway good job to the police for catching those buggers!
