I believe the higher price in Malaysia is because of the pricing strategy, and nothing to do with warranty.
Technically prices should be more expensive in Singapore due to higher freight cost, marketing cost, selling cost, repair cost etc... all in SGD.
However Singapore PS3 has to compete with Microsoft who officially sells 360 in Singapore. To attract more gamers to buy PS3, the console has to be priced reasonably. Also note that PS3 is not a luxury good in Singapore (relative to Malaysia).
In Malaysia, PS3 is the only official high def video game machine. In general there are 2 types of high def gamers - one go for 360 & ahem games, the other one go for PS3 & ori games (ok this is just how the market is segmented, does not apply to everyone. I know a lot of us own both 360+ps3).
If we suckers are willing to spend 10% of our average salary (RM200 out of RM2000 average salary) to buy 1 game. Then Sony can conveniently charge us RM200-300 extra on the console. We suckers will still buy. Make sense?
