hello guys... i need help here.. i wanna buy ps3 120 gb... some shop recommend me to buy SGP VERSION and some say malaysia version. so which one u guy recommend me to buy..
n one of the shop advice me to buy from sony style coz they offer true warranty from sony. he said all shop except sonystyle just lie to me about the warranty.they said to you the warranty from sony but the true is the warranty come from the shop notĀ  from sony. they will ask some money to repair my ps3 if there any prob
*
If you buy PS3 SG version, your warranty will only be valid in Singapore. So, you may need to bring it to Singapore for repair or to claim warranty if anything happens. If you buy MY version, just make sure the box has the Sony Malaysia (SOMAS) genuine sticker, and you can bring it to Sony Malaysia service center (Gardens) to claim the warranty. You need to register your PS3 at Sony's website first though.

Want to ask something. What the different between other PSN? Example I register on MY PSN.If I register SG accoung, does that mean I enter SG PSN or MY AND SG is in Asia PSN? What if I wanna register for EU psn? Which country to choose? Or it just the same?

Added on May 28, 2010, 7:24 pmAnother thing, what is DLC? Care to explain to me? I dont understand when I google it
*
No, each (select) country has their own PSN store. For example, Malaysia has MY PSN store, Singapore has SG PSN store, Japan PSN, USA PSN, EU PSN, etc. The store region you'll enter depends on the address that you enter when signing up for a new PSN account. Conceptually, SG PSN and MY PSN is in Asia PSN (R3) but bear in mind that the store you're entering uses their own currency for purchasing of any DLC. For example, SG PSN will sell in Sing dollar, Malaysia will sell in ringgit, so on. So, for the case where you buy the PSN prepaid card, be sure you are getting the correct currency before using it in the Playstation Store. At Sony Style you will only get PSN prepaid card in Ringgit. In some game shops out there, you may be able to get other region PSN card like SGD prepaid card, USD prepaid card.

DLC = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downloadable_content

DLC is any form of media distributed in the digital format via the Internet. In other words, as you bought a game, expansion pack, add-ons, movies (in some countries) in the Playstation Store, don't expect someone to courier a Blu-Ray or a DVD to your home. tongue.gif It's just simply a way to distribute games, addons etc that you have purchased directly to your PS3 using your Internet connection. So, if you have bought Uncharted 2, and weeks later there is a new map that came out and sold seperately, that map is a DLC. You can also think of DLC as a game item that is sold seperately from the physical media that you have bought earlier (i.e. the Blu-Ray).

Bear in my mind, though that certain DLCs are REGION-LOCKED, and it is locked based on the game region you are buying. For example, if you have bought Uncharted 2 R3 (Asia) Blu-Ray disc, and you have just found out that there is a cool skin that is only available in the USA Playstation Store, chances are, you will not be able to use it with your R3 disc, even if you tried to purchase it in the USA store. So, both the PS3 format software and the DLC region that you are buying from must be compatible. Sometimes, you will see here in the forums why some may wait or spend extra money to get R1 discs. The reality is, some DLCs are actually released faster in the R1 region than in R3, while there are also some who wanted that cool skins/weapons/anything whatsoever.

Btw, if you don't like the idea of turning on your laptop for the sake of gaming on the PS3 for long hours, if I recalled correctly, I did saw a 3G router at Lowyat Plaza. Haven't try it before, but there's a USB port on the router itself that you probably can plug in an HSDPA modem. Maybe you can check that out.

As always, do visit the Wireless Broadband thread for PS3 gaming (http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/989719), there is also a similar guide done by our fellow forumer Borneo928 (Laptop connected directly to PS3).

Kinda noob question and I'm not sure I post in the correct thread but I have a Singapore 80GB PS3 and I want to know how do I register the warranty for it? Do I need to have a SG PSN ID to do so or I can use my MY one? I now currently only have a US PSN and MY account. Another question, does the Malaysian PSN accepts debit card? Thanks.
*
You have to register the warranty at Sony Singapore website. PSN has nothing to do with the warranty.

Hope that helps. thumbup.gif

for DNS you can try using Google's DNS:

Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4

On your Vista machine, set the DNS to the Maxis broadband adapter to Google's DNS, and on your PS3, set the DNS IP address to your laptop's IP address (e.g. 192.168.0.1), that way, when your PS3 requires any DNS query, it will attempts to query your laptop for any DNS record that has been previously cached, and may be able to relay the request via the Maxis 3G gateway on your laptop.

I'm not sure about Maxis' DNS server though.

Another thing: Make sure the cable you are using is cross-cable. Straight cable usually does not work if you connect from machine to machine.

You probably want to create a dial-up connection on Vista itself rather than using the dialer provided by Maxis.

I am thinking probably the NAS is like a barebone storage, so it will just serve the files to your PS3. The PS3 is a bit picky when it comes to MP4 files. Certain MP4 containers doesn't work pretty well, AFAIK. As darkheart mentioned, you can use PS3 media server, in which it will transcode whatever MP4 files you have to MPEG2 streams to your PS3 realtime via DLNA, which guarantees playback on it, most of the time.

due to the exos fin shaping. if u look carefully and compared to the other models. its different.

Bro, how about PS3 slim? I know the areas surrounding the back of the Slim is much hotter than the fat model after running for some time. I was told by a seller that if you have those HDMI cables with an iron socket, it is so hot that it can burn your hands if you're not careful and accidentally touched on it. Ouch!

Sony, unfortunately, doesn't practice international warranty for its PS3 consoles. The last time I asked a Sony salesperson why I am forced to buy a game with a PS3, they mentioned to me that this is the policy set by Sony Malaysia. So, every country has their own policy, and I'm not surprised if this happens to the warranty as well.

hello guys......can used PS3 gamesĀ  able to play online gaming?? despite the verification code n stuff......i asked one shop they said cannot, the other shop says can..but depend on the titles.... wat do u guys think?? hmm.gif
*
The verification code only applies to the DLC (Downloadable contents). E.g BFBC2 has the VIP code for map packs. If someone activated it before, you will not be able to have the map pack.

No issue playing online game with used PS3 games as Sony's PSN doesn't check for disc reusabilities.

Well, even if the internet connection on your ADSL modem says it's connected, doesn't mean your connection to the PSN server is always stable. Only TMnet/your ISP can help you on this problem.

"3D Sound", as the brand says brows.gif Can get a cheap one at LYP around RM16 only, it has a 2.5mm mic and a headphone jack and it work for any existing mic that you have. smile.gif

It will shows as not supported format.
So far only tested can play .mp4 and .wmv files.

Try to use streaming server softwares like PS3 Media Server or TVersity. They will transcode in realtime all your media files to MPEG-TS format that your PS3 can understand and accept.
