I find these sort of statements pathetic.

Yes, I'm sure that Shawcross was apologetic, regretful, guilty, bla bla bla... But apart from Vinnie Jones, I don't think that any footballers out there have the intention of going onto the pitch to hurt somebody.

But what's done is done. The reason why Ramsey's leg is in two pieces, is because of the full-blooded challenges that managers encourage and refs allow.

I'm all for physical contact in the sport, but really, the players should have a little bit more conscience when flying into tackles like what we saw yesterday, and Martin Taylor a few years ago. Shawcross' tackle was a 50-50 and Martin Taylor's was partly the result of Eduardo's quick feet. But Abou Diaby's injury all those years ago was a result of an irresponsible tackle by that Sunderland dude (who's a pathetic excuse for a footballer I don't even remember his name).

The point I'm getting at is that refs never learn. The FA never learns. Nobody does anything to prevent these sort of challenges and mark my words, someone else will get hurt again in the near future.
