hi,
icon_question.gif i really need some advice regarding speaker configuration. as my search for AVR narrow down to VSX919 i have question related to speaker.
can i reuse my HTiB speaker HTZ280 front/rear 60 watt 4ohm impedance sub 100watt. the vsx is power rated 120 watt 8 ohm per channel.

will it burst my speaker in first use. im not the type crank the volume until blow the house. just nice volume for movie xp. icon_rolleyes.gif
im in tight budget, the big boss not approve further spending on HT cry.gif . if have option i dont want to change my speaker.

maybe just need to buy new sub for active sub. and if an avoidable can u help suggest speaker set below 1.2k rclxms.gif

Well, I plan to use Pioneer 518 (or 519) with my Philips HTiB speakers which are 3ohms(!) and also plan to get a 2nd hand active sub to keep the cost down.

I think shouldn't be a problem if play at moderate levels. Probably I'll add a fan at the AVR to reduce the stress/heat of driving a 3ohm speaker.

Can use at low level..simple as that...but if you pump it at party level, you risk burning the amp

Like all amp-speaker setups, the concern is usually with underpowered amplifiers instead of over-powered amps.

If it is under-powered, you may not be driving your speakers to their full potential, thus affecting the sound quality.

If you worry about over-powering, well, I assume you will increase your volume gradually when you power-up, and when the volume reaches the right level, you stop. This is fine with any speakers. However, if you like loud crashes and booms in your movies, you may have a problem; the sudden increases in volume could actually overdrive your speakers and blow them if your volume is already set to high..
