As stated above, can anyone explain what does it mean when the O/D indicator keeps on blinking? I've tried the gear button(on,off) the light still keeps on blinking. The car just can't switch to the normal O/D mode.
Anyone faced this problem before? hmm.gif

O/D is actually 4th or 5th gear in A/T.

Alright, could be a problem with the TCU (transmission control unit) or wiring / sensor on gearbox itself. Have it check by a specialist.

BTW, what car make and year?

Overdrive is your forth gear. When the light is on, it will said "OD off", meaning you will not be using the forth gear, only the first 3 gears.

O/D Off light blinking is a way the Engine Control Unit/Transmission Control Unit is telling you there is something wrong within the system. It's best you send the system to be checked with a code reader, once you get the error code, you will know where went wrong.

Or, it might just be wiring (unlikly).

Same here. It's so frustrating to drive it like that. Even after I let the car warmed up for more than 10 minutes sometimes. I have to actually find a proper place to stop and off my engine and on again, sometimes for a few times only then the car will go back to normal driving mannerism. Argh!!!!

The O/D blinking due to sensor problem inside the gearbox or maybe because the wiring (JUST HAPPEN WHEN YOU CAR CROSS THE WATER AND YOU WIRING HAVE DAMAGE) . It not about the timing chain or your gearbox in bad ass state. Normally when u go to wrong service center, they will suggest you to change the gearbox OR change timing chain OR trade in gearbox which will costly you around RM 3000-4000 for new one, second hand or recons part around RM1500-2000. When the O/D blinking, the normal gear will became overdrive mode (only 3 gear activated). Yeah, your car will became heavy and not economic fuel . Your car also will experience a "Choke" when change gear while downhill. I just repair my car due this problem. Got 2 sensor problem in gearbox. They will check the gearbox sensor condition by using electronic gadget. Check the picture and you will know it how they check. Below RM 700 just to repair sensor in gearbox. Can contact me if wanna know where to cheap repair around KL only.

Hahha. The worst case is you buy a new gearbox which cost arpund rm18000 but the light still blinking so change the timing chain for rm1200. No it's still blinking so change the sensor rm800 again.
