Japan got no CE?

They announced the bundle only. Maybe got something else announced at TGS next month. Or maybe dun hav at all.

Bro evoHahn really a hardcore GT fan

Andreas Nie who signed up to report on anything sim racing related for us, was a busy guy yesterday at Gamescom in Colgne Germany, and he’s only just begun.

Andreas witnessed the new karting mode that was revealed, along with the debut of Monza. He also noticed skidmarks visible on the tarmac. At the press conference yesterday he was also able to take notes that I have here for you below. No wonder he mentioned that he was tired.

Here’s his notes from yesterday..

- there might be additional online content/DLC coming; it’s a possibility
- there’s still lots to be uncovered about GT5
- it was Kaz’s idea to include the Top Gear Track because he watches/likes the show
- Top Gear opens up the GTv franchise to a new audience
- the SLS that can be won with the SE competition will be open to everybody and everybody will get a chance to do well in it, it’s not driving skills only
- track editor may or may not be in
- PSP integration is still unclear whether you can sync your garage and how but there’s definitly going to be some sort of integration
- he’s not the best driver but he’s good enough; some people at the Sony office don’t want to race because they’re embarrassed of not being a good driver
- you don’t have to go through a driving test if you want to get into working for Sony/PD
- Europe marketing with licensing, legal, etc.
- no Porsche because of tight agreement with EA; but there’s Ruf; and there might be a change later on
- but they do negotiate Top Gear and Red Bull Racing in Europe
- Standard vs. Premium: there has been confusion but it will all be cleared by Kaz later
- his favorite track: Silverstone; in the game: Tokyo; favorit car: Lamboghini Stealth fighter
- SE will be very limited but will include everything; all the pre-order special cars, all the goodies
- there was not a lot of information about GT during the press conference because of time contraints and because more will come in the breakout session later
- when asked about trying out a Standard car he pointed me towards the Jaguar; he said it’s sort-of
Standard although it said Premium
- Kaz is going over tomorrow’s presentation today so he’s not at the conference
The Demo:
- no time limit
- carts were playable on one track
- day/night transition in Toscana
- no real damage
- only premium cars
- new build that was just delivered
- another build will be used at the Sony booth later
- lots of cars, lots of tracks (full list in demo)
- photo mode checked:
- choose location
- choose camera position
- photo effects (like Sepia or monochrom)
- not usable with just a wheel as analog stick is missing
- track maker that was not usable
- arcarde mode
- my GT not usable
- News
- GT TV
- options in race: driving line on/off; map orientation; map size
- 3D demo used different glasses then what we received for the big screen demos
- Toscana w/out driving light in the dark in 3D was cool

Can you tell us anything about PSN Trophies in GT5?

Kazunori looked a little confused at first. We’d put to him the rumour about multiple Platinum trophies which he dismissed as just that – rumour. He clarified that he really hadn’t thought about Trophies in GT5 but that they will be in. Our considered opinion is that GT has been doing “trophies” since 1997 and it’s more likely than not that the Trophies system will be grafted onto the existing trophy aspects of the game.

Will GT5 feature LAN mode/multiple monitor support?

“Probably” was the reply. At this point, there are still aspects of the game that the 140-man strong team are still refining. My understanding of Kazunori’s precise words were more probably-likely than probably-possibly.

We’ve seen changing light and, recently, weather. Will this be available on all tracks?

“Not on all tracks, but some.”. We’d imagine that tracks with 24 hour races are more likely to see diurnal cycles, but whether you can race the ‘Ring in snow… at this point it is still up in the air.

With GT5, how close are you to your goal of “The Real Driving Simulator”?

“90%” was the instant answer. “Well, 85-90%”.

Are there any features missing from GT5 that you’d like to have included?

Kazunori said “Yes”, without hesistation. “But there’s still time to work on things!”

Would this include a livery editor?

“Probably not for GT5, though it’s certainly on our list of things to work on…”.
