OK...firstly i want to appologise because my english not good...

3 years ago i own Pioneer VSX-AX2as with THX select 2, i don't belive
about THX before because i think we must have THX certified speakers but i'm totally wrong...

i have done MCACC and wtching movie with DTS and DD alone...
one day i tried ON the THX button and the sound a bit diffrent...
after that i calibrated my system using THX setting and the result change
my perseption about THX....after that day i never running my system without THX..
With THX my speakers produce a very crystal clear sound and you can turn up
your volume as high as you like without damage your ears... biggrin.gif
One more big things about THX is your subwoofer control ...mmmm amazing...bro

Now i have upgrade my AVR to Pioneer LX82 because of THX and penangan BLU RAY..
LX82 is THX Ultra 2...fyi

Maybe after this i need to upgrade my subwoofer bcoz my current subwoofer lack of power
to control the impact of THX Ultra2.Perhaps upgrade to SVS subwoofer rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

This is simple setting and u also can DIY. Just turn ON THX speaker setting before auto calibration.
After that u just fine tune your setting and enjoy feel of THX...

So what are the THX settings you're using now with the LX82?

I think first you have to choose a THX listening mode like Surround EX or Ultra 2 Cinema, etc. Which did you choose?

Then later also have to set the THX audio setting like Loudness Plus, BGC, etc. What are your settings for this?

First of all, you must realise that different manufacturers can implement THX differently in their AVR. So sometimes what works with Pioneer will work differently with maybe Denon, Yamaha, etc.

About the 7.1 you mentioned, I think for Pioneer choosing the THX Ultra 2 Cinema mode means it will matrix a 5.1 channel sound into 7.1 so that's why you need 7.1 speakers.

LOL, no one claiming to be full THX certified here biggrin.gif . Just that they are playing around with the THX features found in their AVR. If you don't have THX certified speakers, Room etc. , doesn't mean you can't play around with your AVR THX options to see what kind of results it produces with normal non-THX speakers smile.gif

Currently i used THX ultra 2 cinema ,because for cinema mode plays 5.1 ch using all 8 speakers it will giving you the best
possible movie watching experiance...
other mode i will choose depend what i'm playing...
yes... u are wright THX ultra 2 play same like matrik 5.1 into 7.1 but the diffrent is sound produce more details and clear..

u also can used 5.1 speakers to enjoy THX ultra 2 but you need to turn surround back "ON" or "YES" even though you do not connet them
if not you only can listen in THX cinema mode only...

overall the diffrent about THX is subwoofer respond like i told before.. try it and i bet you'll never enjoy your watching
without THX mode....

fyi...i already own onkyo and yamaha before ..but for me pioneer is the best (price below 10K).... thumbup.gif ..sorry just my opinion..
this is my 5th AVR ...... sweat.gif

Hi geng..

- From my understanding about THX,THX SELECT2 cinema
mode plays 5.1 movies using all 8 speakersgiving the best
possible movie watching xperience.
- THX main objective is to translate the sound from the movie
theatre environment into your home.. It's a simple principle
- So as your amp capable and have THX certified,u can enjoy
it although u dont have THX certified speaker,
THX certified room accoustics and THX certified GUY biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

It's only my 2 cents guy...
