'Paranormal' team makes new Alliance
Oren Peli and co. pact with distributor on low-budget pics

"Paranormal Activity" team Oren Peli, Jason Blum and Steven Schneider have inked a five-picture deal with leading Canadian distrib Alliance Films to finance and produce low-budget genre pics.

Pact kicks off with horror title "Insidious," from "Saw" creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Wan beings lensing in Los Angeles this spring from a script by Whannell.

Alliance will release the films in Canada, the U.K. and Spain. CAA, which brokered the deal, will team with Alliance in repping domestic rights.

Stuart Ford's IM Global will handle international sales and will shop "Insidious" to foreign buyers at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin. Domestic rights are still available.

" 'Paranormal' taught us to do more with less, and this fund embodies that model. We are particularly thrilled to kick off the fund with James and Leigh," Blum said.

Wan said he and Whannell were drawn to work with Peli, Blum and Schneider because "of their passion for genre films and having the creative control to make auteur-driven pictures."

Wan directed the original "Saw," as well as co-writing with Whannell.

Storyline for "Insidious" is being kept under wraps, other than Wan saying "Leigh wrote a fantastic script that took a haunted house movie with all the usual conventions and twisted it on its head."

Last fall, Blum, Peli and Schneider made box office history with "Paranormal Activity." Film was directed by Peli and produced by Blum for under $15,000. Schneider exec produced.

DreamWorks (then owned by Paramount) picked up rights to "Paranormal," with a particular interest in remaking the film. Par ultimately decided to release the film as it was.

"Paranormal" grossed $107.9 million domestically and north of $70 million overseas for a worldwide total of nearly $178 million to date. Film's strong international showing helped to further chip away the perception that horror doesn't travel well beyond the U.S. "Paranormal" has yet to be released in Japan and Italy.

Blum and Alliance are confident that the same appetite will exist for "Insidious," and the four other titles called for under their deal.

"I've known Jason for many years now," Alliance prexy Charles Layton said. "While 'Paranormal' may have been an industry surprise, his success is not a surprise at all. We're very pleased to be working with Oren, Steven and Jason now and for the long term."

Deal is a reunion of sorts for Layton, Blum and Ford.

"I am very happy to be back in business with Stuart and Charles, old colleagues from my days at Miramax," Blum said.

First Look at a Clip from James Wan’s Insidious

Your first look at former “Saw” guy James Wan’s new horror movie “Insidious” isn’t a trailer, but a clip. It’s an interesting clip, but I haven’t a clue why the producers decided to go with this instead of releasing a proper trailer
, but whatever. Via Yahoo.

Quite a good horror movies. Ending is a mixture. Some scenes work but some scenes are a bit silly. Anyway, worth watching and I find it one of the better horror movies from America in recent times. Storyline is not too original. A bit of a rip from Poltergiest.

For me, the plot was something different compare to most ghost stories. I felt it was rather original how they play around with astral-projections and all.

James Wan do what he does best in his direction... but the ending is rather... unsure.gif

Most of the time what scares are the sounds and sudden flashes of the ghost... but if look closely, they are not that scary...

Only one scene feels rather... well, demented looking ghost. Other than that, season horror movie-goers might just passes this by without and frightful moments.

Depends on how much of a season horror movie fan are you. If you are a season horror fan, its nothing exceptional (but the plot is rather something different) and you won't be scared. The ghosts aren't scary too...

Quickie review of this movie:
Well..this movie freaks me out!I feel that this movie combines the essence of different horror movies.. Asian styles, where the ghost appear super-sudden (correct me if im wrong, but American movies are usually quite predictable and audiences are usually well prepared when ghost/etc is coming) and the American style where you have creepy boogiemans. To me, the storyline is just weird. Doesnt really make much sense. The main devilish dude does look ALOT like Darth Maul and The Clown from SAW (he looked more like someone that will chop you up into pieces than someone who will haunt you for life, if that even make sense tongue.gif). I like the 'Tiptoe through the tulips' scene the most!

Overall, i would rate this 7.5/10 < most points goes to the ability to freak me out! not the storyline nor the ghost/devil biggrin.gif

So, those that haven't watch this, go for it! Don't worry, Asians still OWNS the horror genre! biggrin.gif

and we can conclude what will happen when his mother show him the picture when he is boys the picture every time he snap picture that ghost even near that ghost will take his body when next time he gone travel to the further....

that all my opinion if u accept it.. for ur info i juz see that movie in midnite last nite... biggrin.gif very good movie to watch...

the scary scenes were meant to be funny and scary at the same time (audience were laughing).

it's like drag me to hell + paranormal activity.

if you're a fan of horror movies, go see it.

Insidious (2010)

Wow, wow, wow, wow, WOW!!!

When Oren Peli is involved with a horror project, I like it

It is VERY cost effective to make, and the result are spectacular

Story Great

Pacing FANTASTIC

It is SPOOKY horror guys, so if you like SPOOK, look no further

I can even think of a way this can be tied to Paranormal Activity if they want to go that direction

If they can think of a really REALLY good sequel, MORE PLEASE

My Two Sen

Everyone is Officially Back for Insidous Sequel

user posted image

It’s a good thing no one died in the first movie, huh? Because then the filmmakers of “Insidious 2″, since officially titled “Insidious Chapter 2″ would have to resort to some silly explanation why a dead guy/gal was back for the sequel.

After the first movie made nearly $100 million from a miniscule $1.5 million dollar budget, you had to know the sequel would be coming sooner or later. Call it sooner, with production set to kick off next year on January, with everyone involved in the first movie back for the next chapter. (Although it was initially released in 2010, “Insidious” played the festival circuits for a long time before finally getting a theatrical release.)

Returning for “Insidious Chapter 2″ are stars Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson, the concerned parents of a young tyke (the also returning Ty Simpkins) who is being bothered by a demonic entity that wants to use the lad (who possesses psychic powers) to enter our world. Lin Shaye (as a medium) and Leigh Whannell, as one of the “ghost hunters” (as well as the film’s writer) will also return. Whannell, I’m guessing, as co-star and writer again.

And finally, James Wan will return to direct the sequel. (This will mean, of course, that Wan’s “MacGyver” movie will have to wait.)

Actually, because it is LOW Budget (nowadays, in Hollywood terms, USD 1,500,000 [Original budget of Insidious Chapter 1]) there usually isn't much post production. Meaning, everything is shot practical (no CGI).

If Insidious Chapter 1 is a point of reference, even the score was beg, borrowed or "steal" from other productions (eg. no original score, music where taken from other source/movie). So, a long story short, 30 August is actually possible.

I just hope they got the script right. Usually (not always) it is script change whilst shooting the movie, that causes issue (budget, launch date etc)

So, let's just all keep calm, and judge the movie as and when it is release.

Just stop at part 2 will do. Or at the very least a trilogy will be good enough. Don't turn it into another SAW.

Google said Insidious Chapter 3 is due for release on April 2015 so we might have to wait awhile. I like the series though because it was pretty atmospheric for a horror movie and it will be disappointing if the second movie was left with a cliffhanger like that. But I hope they don't milked it like abubin said, sequel part 4,5,6,7... smile.gif

Seriously, the second one was "just-another-sequel" and the first one remained a brilliant almost classic hit. The third, without James Wan, it's fast becoming a sequel-fest. Not getting any hopes up for the third, as it might just end up being the worst.

I still recall how James Wan masterfully crafted the first film wanting to bring back old-school scares and it sort of worked, what with Darth Maul and all... tongue.gif The sequel was 'OK' but on the verge of being mediocre.

Morning happy.gif

Took a while for me to recall Maul.

Lately there are too many stereotype American horror movies.

So, it's difficult to determine which is which.

Evening happy.gif

Insidious Chapter 3

Boring at first.

Manage to stay awake by the cliché element of surprise.

Excitement began after an hour.

Maul was in the previous movie.

This time it's Vader's turn laugh.gif

A cross between Vader and The Orcs laugh.gif

Good luck finding 'The Big Show' too laugh.gif

The cameo...so lame.

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)

Insidious: The Red Door is an upcoming American supernatural horror film directed by Patrick Wilson in his directorial debut from a screenplay by Scott Teems and story by Leigh Whannell and Teems. It is a direct sequel to Insidious (2010) and Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), and the fifth installment in the Insidious franchise. Ty Simpkins, Wilson, Andrew Astor, Rose Byrne, and Lin Shaye reprise their roles from the films. Hiam Abbass and Sinclair Daniel also join the cast.

After the release of Insidious: The Last Key (2018), Blumhouse Productions opted for possibilities to produce future films in the series, including a crossover with the Sinister series. In October 2020, the studio announced that Wilson would direct and star in the new film, with Teems writing the script based on a story written by Whannell. Filming begin in August 2022 at the Morris County and Madison locations on New Jersey City and was wrapped the same month.

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)

Director: Patrick Wilson

Patrick Wilson (who plays Josh Lambert) is directing this? Really? Can he direct?

We are getting ahead of ourselves.

Although this is the fifth movie in this movie series, it is actually a direct sequel to Insidious 1 & 2.

It does take place 10 years after Insidious 2.

All the kids are bigger sweat.gif

The first part of the movie really shows off Patrick Wilson as a director.

It is obvious that the movie had been storyboard (pre-viz) I cannot fault (personally I would have added an additional setup scene, but I ain't no director) the first act!

My, how Ty Simpkins had grown.

It is a shame we may not get to see him as the next Iron Man in MCU because it is now M-SHE-U... sweat.gif

The frst two acts were great.

I would have added a little to the third act

There are complains online about it being boring. I admit same parts of the second and third acts could have been trimmed and overall I thought the movie was a tad short!

If you like the first and second Insidious, chances are you will like this!!

I know I did!

That my friends is, My Two Sen

Ps: There is a pretty kickass cover of Shakespeare Sisters ~ Stay by Ghost (ft. Patrick Wilson) at the end of the movie.

Enjoy smile.gif
