Hello guys, I would like to ask you guys about the tax regarding on IT products. For example, do I need to pay for tax for a laptop if I buy it from other countries and ship it to Malaysia? Or just have to pay for the shipping fee.

Biggest worry about shipping is theft and damages! Ensure you buy from reputable site/person. And check the shipping company is reliable. Secondly ensure warranty and service is available at that destination country. And don't let bolehland custom takes advantages of non-dutiable products.
BTW My Dell laptop is shipped from China to Malaysia.

Moreover, may I know why you bought your Dell laptop from China and not from the local Dell retailers or via website? How much did they charge you for the delivery fee anyway? and did the custom taxed you anything?

I heard some fella HP HDX 16 got seized at customs for not paying tax..
He returned the unit back to the seller and request seller mark it as "RMA Unit" / "Repaired Unit" ..
I even emailed Xoticpc before.. They say custom taxation we have to bear ourself..

After I have listened to all the opinions from you guys, I think I have to give up on buying laptop from Malaysia and ship it to Germany as I afraid the custom at Malaysia & Germany will check it ... and tax me "kao kao" ... The current problem that I'm facing now is all the laptops at Germany come with German version OS ... and I really can't adapt and fluent in their language yet ... I think I have to think another alternatives ... This post has been edited by Jeffrey1987: Feb 6 2010, 07:56 AM

OR just buy notebook with Ultimate Win7 at Germany, because only Ultimate version can change the entire language interface. 34 language packs are downloadable. Dint you consider any services you might need after sales? all famous computer brand have international warranty, but is depend on the specified model supportted in fact. unless you're 100% sure that the model you interested selling and supported at Germany.
