hi guys, i'm interested in the RM2999+discount coupon deal. However i have some questions here and hope you guys can advise according to knowledge and experience

1) on the website, standard warranty is complete cover 1 year, i would like to upgrade to 3 yrs but complete covers for RM700 is too expensive for me. I just need parts and labour limited warranty which is more economical. is there such option?

2) some options not available on the website for customize such as battery cells (6 or 9); graphic card (4670 or 5730), can i special request to customize these options?

3) request to not to install mcafee antivirus, coz i got my own antivirus solution smile.gif

Thanks in advance.

1) not sure

2) i called them and asked, they taken the 9 cell battery away because they are out of stock. u need to purchase the 9 cell separately with the notebook. 5730 only available for i series processor.. not core 2 duo

3) u can tell them when u make the order.. but usually ppl go for a total reformat to remove all all those unwanted junkwares..
*
1) k will ask

2) i did a quick check and found that 9 cell option is available for i series processor but not core 2 duo, i thought they are the same system and use the same battery so stock should not be problem

3) noted

2) irrc, both share the same battery, but based on what i talked with them ytd, they said out of stock, thats y they remove it from the option.. not sure when they will restock..
*
k, another quick check found that RM4099 (i5) and RM4599 (i5) can customize battery cells whereas RM4999 is fixed with 9 cells battery. i will think for RM103, it's worth to upgrade to more battery cells.

Added on June 13, 2010, 11:22 pmgot another question need advice:

these are the display specs i got from dell website

RM2999
Obsidian Black 15.6 " 1080p WUXGA (1920x1080) WLED Full HD Display w/ 2MP cam

RM4099 (i5) RM4599 (i5) RM4999 (i7)
15.6" Edge to Edge Full High Definition(1080p) Display with TrueLife™-Obsidian Black

my question is what are the difference between the 2 specs? it is definitely not the RGBLED coz need to add RM684 for it, and only available for the i5 and i7

i can compromise with 6 cells battery, and the default display for RM2999, but the warranty upgrade to 3 years, really hope can be stripped down to parts and labour, dont need complete cover, dont need weekend phone call 24x7 or what so ever fancy feature, hehe

i purchased via credit card payment..  nod.gif

how come you guys dont feel the 3yrs complete cover is a bit vanity upgrade? coz RM700+ is almost 25% of the total cost of the machine. i will op for parts and labour only

possible..
how come?
parts dont come cheap, esp the mobo.. a mobo cost thousands..
*
well, i think part of the warranty cost is paid for the complete coverage say accident like one spilled coffee on it, can get replacement, i dont need that, and gold (or 24x7?) phone support i also dont need that too.

for inspiron model, there's option for 3 yrs parts and labour, actual name i dont remember, something like inhome service after remote diagnose, i will think is the same, dell just playing around fancy names for the warranty coverage
the cost is less than RM300

parts and labour? Which option is that?

3-Year Dell Care Premium [add RM 807.00 or RM 67/month-1]
3-year XPS Premier Service with 1-year CompleteCover [add RM 563.00 or RM 47/month-1]
3-year XPS Premier Service with 3-year CompleteCover [add RM 630.00 or RM 53/month-1]

Did anyone answer the difference between dell care premium and XPS premier service + CCover??
*
the option is not in the website, that's why i ask you guys got any experience request for more economical warranty upgrade, maybe by phone?

Added on June 14, 2010, 8:04 amgot another question here, the physical dimension of 6 cells and 9 cells battery, any difference other than the weight? is the 9 cells battery protruded (ie larger in size)?

Well, most likely since SXPS is their one of the premium notebook, hence the inclusive complete cover?
9 cell is protuding to the bottom, lifting your notebook, if not mistaken.
About the display, in my opinion, should be just the same, unless Dell take the extra layer of plastic (edge to edge) out from the RM2999 model, hence the lack of that description...

currently chatting with dell sales with clear m doubt. will update you guys

so the extra layer of plastic (edge to edge), any quality improvement on the image beside cosmetic effect? lol

davehii,
the reviews online are generally positive for the Studio 15 and i took the plunge just now and signed up for the Studio 15.

I just couldn't ignore the specs and price of RM 1k less compared to the SXPS 16.

Here's what i've upgraded from the base model:

Core i7-740QM( surprisingly it is RM17 cheaper then the slower 720QM)
Full HD Display 1920x1080
8GB RAM
Backlit Keyboard
9 Cell battery
640GB battery
3 year Dell Care Premium(covers accidental warranty + 24x7 support)-repair on weekends and at night too
rest as defaults

btw, there were 4 different options for the Studio 15, and the cheapest one RM2999 specced as above comes to RM5487 today. This was about RM200 less then the most expensive choice given. I'd advise everyone to spec up/down all the choices before picking a model. Sometimes, the most expensive one could also end up being cheaper while at other times it's not so.You will need to check all the options before picking one.

On top of this check out google for discount coupons. www.dellcoupon.com.my reduced the price by RM150 and the SA dropped another RM100. so from RM5487..now it's RM 5237 or RM250 less then what's on the website. And for being slightly diligent, RM200 less from the most expensive option on website.so..for 30min work of speccing up/down, saved RM450 in total. Your mileage may vary.

Now am wondering if anyone know where i can find a laptop 2nd hdd caddy like this one?
http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_p...products_id=282

astria and everyone else,
Thanks for the advise once again. Finally a new laptop after 6 years. phew.

can give me the link to the online review?

Guys,

Your 3 years warranty is which one?

1. 3-Year Dell Care Premium [add RM 845.00 or RM 70/month-1]

2. 3-year XPS Premier Service with 1-year CompleteCover [add RM 601.00 or RM 50/month-1]

3. 3-year XPS Premier Service with 3-year CompleteCover [add RM 668.00 or RM 56/month-1]
Dell Recommended

Same thing happened to me... Damn!

since coupon is not possible, use this as a reason to ask the SA to give discount.

For my order, the SA dint wanna give discount with a reason i already applied the coupon
