My Wira nowadays, if I don't start the car after 1-2 days, the car will jerk for the first 10 minutes (feel like the petrol cannot reach the engine). I have to press the gas pedal lightly (somtimes tapping) and let the car accelerate slowly so that the car doesn't "mati engine". If I press the gas pedal more, the car will jerk and "mati engine". After a few mins of "slow accel", the car will not jerk anymore when the gas pedal is depressed more. This can be quite dangerous for me as sometimes I need to accelerate out of a junction quickly, it would be disastrous if the car mati engine halfway while doing that.
The car is an auto car, 1996 (first generation batch). Is there anything I should be alarmed or expect? The car have been sent for servicing quite regularly especially on engine oil + filter, brake fluid, battery etc. Only air-con I don't really send for servicing. And btw, the engine have never been overhauled before. Please help This post has been edited by SnoWFisH: May 26 2010, 02:29 PM |

I'm going to send my car for servicing soon, so I plan to replace my plugs and also the fuel filter since I'm having problems starting my engine.
My wira is a 1.6 Fuel injection engine. I'm currently still using normal oem stock plugs. Will changing to platinum plugs (bosch super 4 / NGK G power) help in improving pick-up and FC significantly? Any particular models to recommend? The plug gap is 1.1mm right? (No idea where my manual went). As for the fuel filter...should be ok to let the mechanic decide what brand to use right? Thanks a lot! Know nuts about car maintainence apart from changing engine oil and oil filter Btw, no internal mods are done to the car engine and using sharlu 20W-50 mineral engine oil...I'm currently getting around 350 km for full tank with R95 petrol. Is this FC acceptable? I drive about 30-40 km everyday. Thank you This post has been edited by SnoWFisH: Jul 12 2010, 09:53 PM |

Good morning peeps!
Actually previously I was using 10w40 for my car, until the last service the lady boss mechanic advised me to switch to 20w50 for my car because there's no difference in using 10w40 and 20w50 for a car as old as my car (or was it 5w50...can't remember). So far, in terms of performance I don't feel any drop in kick apart from the ever-repeating failed to start engine syndrome after a 2 days idle. FC did drop slightly, but I can stretch the mileage up to 500 km ++ for non-stop driving on highway on a full tank until the petrol warning sign appear. I think I'll ask the lady boss to top up for me back 10w40 and see got any difference or not. I will not postpone replacing engine oil anymore cuz the last time I replaced, the mechanic had to cucuk cucuk the bottom cuz the hole got stuck from the sludge. The sludge all came out after like the car "pangsai" only =.=. Btw, how big is our Wira emergency petrol tank ar? |

So that means I could go about 60 more km on the reserve tank on a conservative stand point...

There are some items which I don't understand in my invoice (was in a rush so I din't really ask for explaination, too busy with bargaining).
Stuff changed : Engine Cap Gasket <- the square gasket for the engine? FRT Steering Cover LH <- apa nie? Changed Drive shaft, oil and seal (Shaft brand is Keba I think). Oil Filter and Engine Oil change Petrol Filter change Auto Filter & Gasket change Power steering fluid flush & replace ATF-3 change Oil Sump nut change Spark Plug change (Denso Irridium) final amount was 1.1k, free balancing and alignment. Did I kena pancung? The mechanic took 1 whole day from morning until evening, he say got small leaks almost everywhere, so he washed the engine bay else well. Anyway I'm glad there's no more "krak krak krak" sound whenever I turn, pick-up is a hella lot faster as well. This post has been edited by SnoWFisH: Jul 23 2010, 08:52 PM |

QUOTE(xxboxx @ Jul 24 2010, 09:05 AM) Well I did initially asked for platinum, but the boss say extra 20 bucks can get iridium liao, so go for iridium lo (200 bucks for 4)Btw, majority of the cost of service came from ATF flushing + top up and drive shaft loh. |

QUOTE(wailup @ Jul 25 2010, 10:26 AM) super bosch for 200++?????????? Well, my mechanic usually couple together labour charges with the component prices in the receipt, so there's no separate labour charges in the invoice. I expect the labour charges is counted in together already la.iridium with price rm160 is quite a cold plug series already.. normal wira should be less, rm140 like that. labour cost? just ask your regular mechs, or do it while you're servicing the car, can ask them change for free la.. QUOTE(Lineage @ Jul 25 2010, 11:01 AM) I was using NGK Oem plugs previously, so yeah there is a very noticeable performance in terms of pick-up. FC I dunno, cuz need to drive a few more weeks to know.QUOTE(Lineage @ Jul 25 2010, 11:51 AM) FC = fuel consumption |

shinjite: Thanks for the advice about the Fuel filter earlier, seems that its the culprit of the "not enough petrol reaching the engine" problem. Now very smooth

QUOTE(shinjite @ Jul 26 2010, 12:52 AM) Thats a good thing to hear yeha you advised me the reason why my engine kept jerking the first few mins I start my car is cuz the fuel filter stuck or fuel pump not working. I'm glad the problem is the fuel filter!Well, I can't remember if I did advice you on the fuel filter thingy. Did I? The mechanic took the filter out, the liquid that came out of the filter (outlet) was black in colour |
