well TS, if i were you, this is what I would do.
Call up the new company and tell them that your x-company has counter offer you and you plan to stay back. Tell them your are sorry and etc. That's it.

They won't bring you to court or whatsoever just because of you. Furthermore, the new company might want to counter offer you
