yes you can! rclxms.gif i own a few titiles and it reads all except one...and forget about using blu ray live on uncle ho's bdr - they're disable...and a lot of special features are missing too...some shops ok to change if ur player cant read the discs

but if u really wanna fully utilise the BD live profile 2.0 and get all the special features glory...buy original mate!!

short review: pic and audio quality (only normal DTS) are awesome...but dont expect this player to player anything via the usb slot - that is only meant as memory for BD live

oh...how much is your player? i got mine player a month ago for rm600+ at senQ with 4 (gulp!) years warranty!

and does somebody know whtas the difference between model 3000 and 3008??

simply worth every single Penny spent

just F/W upgrade to this >> "4th_firmware_blu-ray_100C_090712_1219_100F.fmw"

no problem biggrin.gif

Added on February 2, 2010, 12:23 pmthis is exactly the same set, only cosmetic differences

uses the same F/W and same remote control tongue.gif

If connect USB external HDD and play all ripped DVDs (iso etc) from there, can get the full menus etc. ? Will the upscaling be just as good as played directly from internal BD/DVD drive?

to be frank.. you kno la.... china many products, think this is one of the best.

even the FW i can upgrade and downgrade, i also threw the patterson F/W ( well like i say cosmetic differences) it is working just that the front LCD display garbage biggrin.gif ( different LCD panel) downgrade back was ok rclxms.gif

will snap internal foto later, gosh, the BD transport mechanism is a Sony.... Made In Jepun one tongue.gif

to me ... it can play every damned thing i threw in ... without problem .... somemore with warranty... hassle free what the fuss,
if really give problem i get to have a loan set too... (mana dapat this 1st class service) rclxms.gif

well will try and look for differences in PQ and AQ on David Foster ( ori BD from US.. not speedy one with the HDD BDMV 41.3GB )

havent finish yet smile.gif ... quality wise matching the Sony BDP-S765 and LX-52 (even if 765 and 52 is better than 5%... so what.... always remember at a fraction of the price, & full multimedia mode ) at the end of the day, when you bought it back... it will defitnitely be the best to your Eyes & Ears

what more to ask he hehe... bitstream 7.1 too ... my yammy icons lighted up biggrin.gif

P/S btw, they are officially launching (buffet opening ceremony) this Sunday, any one near Ipoh give me a tinkle or drop by personally

also .... i am not the boss and i do not earn any commission .... just wanna share and introduce a Quality Affordable Product f or all to enjoy...

if someone is telling you it is a quality product ... reckon ... you will half heartedly believe

and yes it does upscale on DVD and does bdmv full menu rclxms.gif (who cares its sigma 8634 it still performs at lesser memory than 8642 tongue.gif

it does state it does iso, and bd-live on media playback... but i havent tried... ( i didnt even try bd-live on 52 and 765...haha)

have tried 3gb mkv on 2012, too me its considered good, but my HM and daughter say its very clear already, ( ask me... you still want clearer ah )
mind you and its on a 50ins 1080i TV biggrin.gif

seven pounds belum cuba, but QOS on Ori BD okay ( panning run very smoothly) from statue scrolling up and also after the car chase scene entering the HQ to the tunnel where the camera pans up ( i've seen this scene parts judder during the KLIAV fair demonstrated on Pioneer 50" with BDP-51FD and LX-52
(10gb mkv QOS also ok... is this considered..hehe)

U don't see judder on this but saw it on the Pioneer 50". I believe ur set does not accept 24fps. That is 24fps judder. Ur eyes are used to 3:2 that's why. For me 3:2 pulldown for 24fps material is bad...I can live with 24fps (72Hz refresh) judder.

ya maybe, the 24p thingy...
thats y the LX52 and 765 looks good w/o judder on my 1080i tongue.gif

out of curiosity... but y... suppliers are emphasing on judder/motion free LCD with 200hz etc,
y it is still THAT noticable hmm.gif >> hitech against 1080i << hmm.gif

Added on February 3, 2010, 3:08 pmmy next upgrade will be a 1080p/24p deep colour LCD projector...
if the judder/mortion effect is not solved
guess have to be extreme carefull when buying tongue.gif

U need to understand that the 24fps judder is due to 24frames per second recorded on film. That's the way it is. Different eyes have different sensitivities. If u look closely in the cinema, u will see 24fps judder, its just that the screen is so big that u do not pay too much attention toit. Back home, the screen is much smaller, so u notice it. Display manufacturers counter that with higher refresh rates. Again, if u go too high, it starts to look like a soap opera (video). In ur case, if u actually look at it, the 24fps is being converted to 30fps that is being refreshed to 60Hz. The judder there is worse as 24 is not divisible by 30. So there is a 2:3 pulldown to convert 24fps to 30frames which is then refreshed at 60Hz.

LCD refresh rates are a whole other subject.

Best way to see 24fps convert to 60Hz judder is by looking at end credits when the names are moving up/down. Also fast moving scenes with lots of things happening. Remember that in ur case on ur 1080i set, the native refresh is 60Hz. So the conversion must be done. U r probably used to it and not notice it anymore. The Kuro 602? or 608? The Kuro when receiving a 24p signal if put in Advanced (Pure Cinema Mode) will refresh at 72Hz and is as smooth as it gets without being too much like a video. In my opinion, 96Hz refresh of a 24fps signal is the most u can go, anything higher the video look is there. Even 96Hz is borderline it. Baseline it on the Kuro on how the refresh is done on 72Hz and see if u still see it judder. However, if the wrong Pure Cinema mode is chosen, then it can be a different issue (Do not choose Pure Cinema Smooth (junk in my opinion) or Off (this will refresh at 60Hz), also if this is the older LX608G then do not choose standard as well, only Advance is correct setting)

ok ok biggrin.gif .... brief in-depth simple explanation
but will not meddle with their LCD setting even if "judder" ( guess just have to accept as for now)

Added on February 3, 2010, 5:31 pmbtw think no need to test also

seen "i robot" .... oh forgot the track ... the scene where they entered the automated Robot Facility in the car, searching for the "robot sonny"

seven pounds belum cuba, but QOS on Ori BD okay ( panning run very smoothly) from statue scrolling up and also after the car chase scene entering the HQ to the tunnel where the camera pans up ( i've seen this scene parts judder during the KLIAV fair demonstrated on Pioneer 50" with BDP-51FD and LX-52
(10gb mkv QOS also ok... is this considered..hehe)

Just ensure your next purchase could support 24Hz refresh rate like many new models in the market now then you are good for non-juddering effect biggrin.gif

Added on February 3, 2010, 9:49 pmbtw - i just remembered...there's some limited units of this model selling for rm499 sometime last year (maybe that model was the 3000, not sure)...it was at harvey norman...but very2 limited stock coz it was kindof some introductory stock from Philips...

now the price for 3008 is around rm500 - 700 + .at Desa or SenQ...try to scout...sure can find cheaper ones soon...

i've never been dissapointed with philips actually...some years ago, they've known to share the same components with Marantz...sister company or something probably...

At least mine can properly display 24fps tongue.gif as I could notice the difference (smoothness of the frame and a bit slow flowing of the film) on the display when selecting 1080p 24Hz in my media player. Also the PQ is a bit less sharper compared to 60Hz but luckily not "soap opera effect" like video rclxms.gif

What do u mean by gadget? Display? Plasma, LCD or projector?

Plasmas that do it correctly Pioneer, Samsung, V series Panny (X and S do not do it correctly - however it is good enuf for most)

LCDs taht do it well , higher end Sony, higher end Sammy,

I believe LG as well but I cannot confirm. Sharp, I am not sure as I have no tested. I believe the consensus is that most of the models that are of the higher end do it correctly.

Most projectors (1080p) do it correctly. The ones that refresh at 48Hz are not that great, but most do it well.

well maybe in malaysia ....

the joke is, you can "hand carry" thru Kastam easily, when they see OPPO they will say "jalan" ( to them just another lousy china brand.... their eyes will grow big if its PIONEER, SONY, PANA, LG, SAMSUNG ) rclxms.gif

>> DISCLAIMER <<
having said... JOKE JOKE only ar..!!!

you can find websites & forum', verdict...... its one of the best around... $$$ can buy, "at par" or outrun other brands costing twice or tripple Oppo's price, with DVD-A & SACD playback that mostly other BD's cant

i might be getting one back.... maybe "hand carry" haha haha biggrin.gif

its does have a forum Oppo vs the Rest of the world

to make one understand more about OPPO spend some time on this Summarised FAQ's
http://watershade.net/wmcclain/BDP-83-faq

and its updated almost daily ( which manufacturer can do that )

Bravo... OPPO support Group rclxms.gif

Haha..

I prefer it stays tat way.. de more they sell wifout publicity (except word of mouth) the more Oppo would tend to work on its strengths tat is premium parts(abt chip, dvda/sacd, 7.1 outs..etc) tat gv gud value where it counts instead of uhm 'branding' ..

But of cos..

haha Best Point & Remark of the Year.... rclxms.gif

brief example

OPPO 83~US500... LX-52~US250

oppo 83, get from singapura also think SG899 inclusive of Mod... even with tax also around RM2,800
compared to LX-52 RM2,900 ( USD 250 vs oppo 83 USD500 )"double the price"

hmm.gif

dont really know, in AVS it is always pitted against the 51FD, 52/23FD-US elite model

LX-52 also 7.1, but if really compared with LX-71, then 83 will "un-crowned" the 71, on features and pricing biggrin.gif

At least your AVR should have HDMI connection and support Multi-channel LPCM, so you could still enjoy lossless HD audio
