How do world class GKs breakthrough into first team?

*
they started young.casillas, buffon, van der sar, cech.you name it.if they got the talent, they'll get the chance.perhaps, some of them started from small club, earn their first team experience there and move on to big clubs e.g. van der sar, kahn, lehmann.plus, the presence of good defenders in front of them might help them a bit in terms of getting clean sheet and good defensive records.

that's what i've been saying.never lose hope until the last game.there's always a potential slip up by any of our rival.

i think almunia fall into zan81's second category.he's still can be considered as "not matured" in GK's age.still can improve but whether the time it takes to improve is long or not that depends on him himself.

fabianski has the reflexes but his decision making is seriously in doubt.while mannone is still young.at 19-20 years old,not much can be seen other than his good reflexes.

somehow i got a feeling that cesc will become our new mr. arsenal. icon_idea.gif

but we also got beaten by the likes of sunderland & draw against westham etc.
i don't mind to lose to other big 3 teams as long as we can get 10 games winning streaks after that, but no one can guarantee that. sad.gif

chelsea and man united also can drop points to burnley, villa, etc.remember, this season we have seen so many upset so far.plus, chelsea can lose to man utd,man utd can lose to liverpool.anybody can lose to anybody.be patient.

agreed.from what i can remember, this is the only season wenger made a mistake and the team can't fix it.before this, whenever wenger made a mistake-as perceived by the media i.e. selling of henry, viera etc.,the team recovered well and prove the pundit wrong.but this time,he failed to sign new player and now it has cost us a bomb.whatever it is,be patience.by now,he must realized the mistake and i hope there's still time for him to fix it.

liverpool next.they're without the hercules and torres but still have gerrard and kuyt.once again, our left side of defence will be tested.let's see whether clichy still able to defend well or not.

you are wearing arsene's glasses la...we didnt improve...the other team weaken...man utd without c.ronaldo and tevez, chelsea players are getting older by the day..we still got our ass whoop...this season actually a good chance for us to win if we just bough some players to strengthen our squad.....come on...if denilson was in a man utd shirt he wont even make it to the reserve....

Added on February 8, 2010, 5:44 pm

dude...he is a liar...he told us that he would sign someone ASAP in january..but end up getting cheated by him again and again and again...the cup that we could have a good chance of winning this season was the FA...but everybody know that he thinks that the FA cup is worthless...a trophy is a trophy...even the spurs fans can say that they have won a cup in the last 5 years...we cant....this is bullshit...we are a big club that is in a new and awesome stadium but we havent won anything....i wont mind the FA cup...at least we got something to be happy about...AW has lost the plot...a football club main goal is to win a throphy not finishing 3rd or 4th...

dude.he did mention he will sign depending on bendtner's injury.

Agreed, Sorensen is probably about the same level as Almunia, if not worse. He's made some pretty spectacular clangers in his time.

But there are some pretty decent keepers in the prem outside of the top 4.

At the top of my head, some who are better IMHO are: -

1) Shay Given
2) Tim Howard
3) Brad Friedel
4) Robert Green

Some who are arguably better: -

1) Mark Schwarzer
2) Joe Hart
3) Huruelho Gomes (the late 2009 version, not the earlier one!)
4) Chris Kirkland
5) Paul Robinson (the early 20s Leeds version, not the Spurs one!)
6) That kid at Wolves... Hennesy I think.

kirkland?are u serious?i rate him way below than fabianski.heck, even robinson is better than him.sorensen is good.who else can save 2 penalties in 2 matches in a row?

QUOTE(Zan81 @ Feb 9 2010, 10:54 AM)
Yes I am serious. Fabianski is a good shot stopper, but I feel he doesn't have the confidence, presence and sometimes judgement. Its my own personal opinion that Kirkland has these qualities. I don't recall that many frequent blunders ala David James.

If not for his injury problems, he would have been a contender to go to South Africa.

And for me, saving penalties should not be a measure of how good a keeper is. Jerzy Dudek anyone?

But of course, I did say arguably better, so its up for debate smile.gif
*
he may have the confidence but his reflex is so-so.plus,the way he looks when his team is trailing irritates me.still remember his face during vela's second goal in league cup last season and when nani scored the third(or fourth-can't remember)goal by freekick earlier this season.annoying! tongue.gif

sorry,my judgement on how good a goal keeper is is based on his reflex and decision making.so,any goalkeeper that have any of these two is not a good goalkeeper.i do think sorensen is good based on number of clean sheet he has this season.
