Guys ,

Electrical engineering and mechanical engineering

which one is better to pursue that provides you with a broad field of opportunity ???

Go for electrical. Mechanical field is too narrow and specific in terms of career path.

I beg to differ. Both of them have good opportunities. Mechanical engineering is very versatile. So you have to elaborate on why you say it is too narrow.

If you want to be Jack of all trades in you future career, yes, mechanical engineering is very versatile. But if you intend to go specialized in certain field of mechanical engineering, let say being a pump supplier for a few years, you could hardly change to other fields. Unless you are willing to start from zero again., taking a fresh graduate salary package. However, you could be in your 30s at that with family and could not afford to change career path.

Where as for electrical, every factories need them, construction and oil and gas field needs them as well. The technical knowledge could be similar. Switching fields is much more easier compare with Mechanical.

What kind of specialisation that one can pursue with electrical engineering and wouldn’t it be the same as with the case for mechanical engineering?

I am from Mechanical Engineering background. Take my advice with a grain of salt. Sorry that I couldn't pick any field for you. But I think electrical field is quite broad from TNB substation to housing end user, new projects and maintenance job would never die out, just refer to your electricity bill during MCO time last year and imagine on your own.
