To secure your place in civil engineering even in top IPTA universities, you only need around 3.5-3.7 cgpa in STPM.
Civil engineering is one of the lowest cgpa needed in Engineering among other engineering like Electrical, Chemical, Electronics, Aerospace etc.

Some questions hard to answer because different universities may have different rules. For example, USM do not have major, minor in engineering faculty.

LOL, lately, the requirement being rised quite a lot already. Averagely you need 3.8 even for the last time lowest CGPA's Civil Engineering.
sos (sorry it is in Chinese)

Worse that some U had cut down the quota to make way for foreign student, so the competition aren't as easy as you thought would be.

Hi, here to ask some may-off-topic questions, recently im a STPM leaver and waiting for IPTA intake... i'm interested in engineer (civil the most), Just ask

1. If i complete my study with architecture in IPTA, can i study civil engineer (degree) again in IPTA? (no money to IPTS)

2. If can, which route shuld i go to the admissions? Adult class? Which cert it refer to? Does it still need my old STPM result?

3. Can i take major + minor or double major or double degree in IPTA? (Heard from others is no.)

Just ask these because scared cannot get civil engineer course in IPTA. =( heard competitive in civil without 4 flat.

1. I will suggest you the other way round. Since for Civil Engineering, you deal with calculations, so you better have good foundation in Maths and Physics. Architecture on the other hand is about art. Your STPM's qualification (I assume you are of science stream) will have a higher chance to get a slot when you just done your STPM than after 5 years studying architecture (architecture degree is 3+2 years IINM).

An engineering degree course will took 4 years. After your graduation with your engineering degree, you can still consider to apply for degree in architecture. Though I guess the basic interview process will still apply, and it still largely depend on your luck to see if they accept you. But I highly doubt you will still be interested or passionate to get a Degree in Architecture provided your Civil Engineering lecturers probably often brainwashing you that Architect is evil, wasting, illogical and bla bla.

2. As above, it shall go back to your STPM. Your degree in old field won't interfere with the newer field. You have to start all over from scratch.

3. AFAIK, nope. Also, not much IPTA actually offering Architecture and Engineering together. Even so they also gonna be 2 separate faculties which don't interact or interfere.

And yup, Civil Engineering in IPTA have becoming more and more high requirement.

This is a good reference for everyone. Thanks for sharing.  laugh.gif

Let's take USM Civil Engineering as an example, link
From the table, 2012/2013 for STPM min-max still do need 3.50-3.92 to get Civil Engineering.
2013/2014 table for UTM, need cgpa 3.67-3.92.
2013/2014 table for UM, need cgpa 3.50-3.92.

And majority of them are at the upper boundary (what I mean is the 3.5x candidate just 1 or 2 person, while most of the rest are the top score)...

Also, take a look at UPM, LEL... Only 5 candicates and minimum also 3.84... rolleyes.gif

Seems getting tougher and tougher to enter.  brows.gif

Do notice that USM and UTM recruit a lot of civil engineering students.  shocking.gif
So, if student hit the minimum requirement mark, they have a chance. laugh.gif

Actually UM do shocked me.

More than half of their candidates are non-bumi. hmm.gif
