Hi all,

Do anyone see jaggies when watching 720p or 1080p movies using your plasma/lcd TVs?

I was hoping to do a screen capture to post it here, but the jaggies only appears when the movie is moving.

Any input is welcomed.

Thank you.

Think the PlayON!HD media player plays according to the resolution of the given file...
Yup, using HDMI

I'm using the Panasonic 42 inch P42x10 Plasma, max resolution is 1024 x 768

download and install mediainfo to examine the video file, at least you will get a glimpse of how video is encoded

Spot on bro! Thanks! rclxms.gif

Changed my TV Setting in the PlayOn!HD player from 'HDMI Auto' to '720p 50Hz', then wub.gif everything went silky smooth.

Most of the material we watch out there are encoded at 23.976fps. It's odd that u should set your ACRyan output to 50hz.

why is it refresh rate issue?

HDMI auto reset it to 720p/50Hz, this is not due to refresh Hz problem.. it's resolution problem.. maybe it's just setting it a 480p leh?

Out of curiosity, could you please define the word jaggies? I believe ur defination is different from what everyone understands. Are you talking about motion stuttering? Or are u talking about edge lines breaking up during motion?

If it stuttering, then as you found out, it was probably frame rate mismatch. The correct term is motion judder.

If it indeed was jaggies, changing the frame rate solving it does not make sense.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, its indeed I'm talking about the edge lines breaking up during motion( lines that are not totally vertical or horizontal, its those that goes from top left to bottom right, etc).

AS for the 'HDMI Auto' setting in the media player, since its auto, i can't tell which mode is it running in when the movie runs.

No, what i mean is, there are many options for the 'TV Setting' in the media player. I just mentioned two of them. One is 'HDMI Auto' and another is '720p 50Hz'. When running movie using the former selection, jaggie appears. While the later selection, jaggies disappeared.

OK, this is what i got, I also dunno why.

I set it back to 'HDMI Auto', and when i play the movie, and press the 'info' button it says '1080p 60Hz'...now the file is running without jaggies rclxub.gif

I've tried other settings as well, works fine.......only the '480P' and '576P' is giving me jaggies..... rclxub.gif

Think either the media player incorrectly detect something else the first time i tried it, or because that I've mistaken the settings somewhere.

Hope it clears all the confusion now, sorry.

Thanks guys. smile.gif

coludnt be hardware fault, you could have mingled the settings accidently

at auto.. the media player will output the recorded highest resolution available biggrin.gif

Added on February 1, 2010, 6:41 pmbut if your LCD can support higher resolution, its better to set media player to match

say 1080/24p... maybe the media player can upscaled it to that even if its 1080i content tongue.gif
