Getting an insurance for yourself and your family is a long term financial commitment hence should not be handled by some half past six person. You'll need to decide now if you'd like to what's right for yourself or just remain unhappy and powerless. You certainly have to take a stand now.

You've posted here asking for our opinion so I believe you're already want a change so get in touch with insurance company and have them change the agent for you as you have the right whichever agent you feel would serve you the best.

As far as understanding the policies is concerned, you may post it the name of the policy and insurance company as I'm very sure most of here could explain the benefit of the product as insurance products don't change that much in terms of benefits.

I would definitely agree to this one as you should only buy based on what you need and not merely because your friend/family member sells it.
