dear sifu's,

i am contemplating to get Core-Duo or Core-2-Duo. whether it worth the money (+/- RM600) to get C2D. is the different that significant for one to spend extra RM600 for C2D?

btw, my usage is mostly internet surfing, and occasionally Photoshop CS4 because I am a photography hobbyist.

your advice is very much appreciated smile.gif

for example,

dell inspiron 1440 with dual core processor (t4300) = rm1499
dell inspiron 1440 with c2d processor (t6600) = rm2099

in such case, is the performance so noticeably different that one would top-up rm600 for the c2d processor?

with the dual core processor (t4300) + 2gb ram, would the lag be too irritating if i process/multitask internet surfing (firefox) + photoshop cs4?

again, thanks for your advice smile.gif

ok, maybe i should list down in details. here you go...

1. brand : i am open to any brand, except compaq
2. budget : rm2000 and below, the cheaper the better
3. specs : of coz c2d if i can afford, but i just want to explore how "slower" is the dual core processor (e.g. t4300), that's why i asked those questions as above.
4. size : 14" - 15"
5. usage : 90% firefox/facebook, 10% photoshop

will an independent gpu helpful for photoshop? coz i see the Dell VOSTRO V1088 (with ATI 4330) on sale at rm1830 is quite attractive.

Yes it will help in Photoshop CS4. The Core 2 Duo is 5-15% faster then T4300 and since it has a larger L2 Cache and stuff its a bit faster but if you use an onboard video card , its going to suck. The ATI 4330 seems to be a good offer. It will be helpful for photoshop or other applications and not to mention that with Flash 10 and such  you can even use the GPU's help when it comes to intense flash gaming (i.e restaurant city)
