Hi! I hope this isn't off topic, but I had to ask; would it be more cost-effective for me to replace the parts of an old laptop rather than buy a new one?

I just got an old lappie from my family, and I figured I want to make it faster for assignments and such. I think its display is 14" too, so wouldn't it be cheaper to just upgrade the parts within than buying a brand new 14"? Please enlighten me. smile.gif

it's depend how much u r willing to spend to upgrade ur laptop. if u willing to spend a lot, i suggest u save the money and sell ur old laptop. use the money to get a new 1

1. Brand.Any brand
2. Budget.4k-4.8k
3. Specs.i5 and i7(prefer i7)
4. Size.not too big or too small just 15.6 like that.

I use it for multitasking, watch movie, play some games ( not light game ) .....

eventhough i prefer i7 but i like the Qosmio F60. er...i dun always change lappy so hope my new lappy can tahan for 4-5 years.. haha... smile.gif

Not really, though I would expect HD5650 or HD57xx....
*
most probably HD 5730 but not sure is DDR3 or DDR5... if it's DDR3 then HD 4670 will be slightly better in term of performance (DX11 excluded)

correct me if im wrong~and with the power of 4200 what still can the G.C done ?
*
u r absolutely correct. HD4200 is actually built based on HD3450 so it will be slightly better than HD3200 in term of performance and also it is also better in decoding HD video
