Hello all, thanks for the replies especially [PF] T.J., very helpful
A couple of comments though. I've been taking a look at Dell's stuff (naturally, since I currently own an Inspiron 6400 from '07), I'm not really happy with the Alienware M15x. Seems to me that the specs are very similar to that of their Studio 15 with the main difference being the gfx card. Not much difference elsewhere and yet the price is 60% more for the Alienware. I like Dell, but I'd rather get my money's worth.
Is the Core i7 that bad for gaming, or do you mean the increase in performance compared to the i5 is not noticeable versus the cost increase? I'm not really going to play a lot (don't have the time anymore, sigh) -- but when I do, I expect the machine to perform. Most of the time I'll be using it to dev stuff (I'm an SQL/graphics guy). I'm still leaning towards the i7, prefer to err on the side of overkill instead of underpowered.
That's fine, not max settings is okay as long as I can expect modern games to run at decent (not low) settings. By the way, thanks for this comparison, I think this is the info which will really help me most of all because I don't understand the crazy numbering scheme. Cheers!
The Inspiron 6400 is a good lappy for normal usage, it helped me alot when my M100 got spoilt haha A couple of comments though. Alienwares are very expensive because of the good built materials and the fancy, super cooool lights haha, because of that they are real heavy too
Most reviews say that Alienwares appeal to younger generations most (who can't afford them hehe), whereas Qosmio, ASUS gaming laptops offer more conserved looks hehe~
Studio 15 and XPS Studio 16 are nice-looking because they are plain and simple; Alienwares look nice because they are very sophisticated (Must see to believe)
