Well, it wouldn't dramatically better, since the usage is not really into 3D stuff, just freecell, solitaire, office, and browsing as you said, but the DM3 might have better built since it uses full aluminum or some metal.. and without the internal dvd drive, it has almost no flex...

Latitude, it has a better image to be better build than Vostro line, though the E5400 is a budget line from E6400, hence using more plastic than the sturdier E6400.

Well, depends on you, whether gaming is important or not,
most games are more gpu dependent...

Well, in this kind of budget + gaming, its better take amd/ati nod.gif
If really restricted under 1.7k, consider acer 4540 @RM1699
But if can, really do consider Asus K40AB/K50AB@RM1899

pentium dual core is just a crippled down version of core 2 duo, less l2 cache...

low cost laugh.gif
Under 1.7k, you would only see intel pentium or c2d with intel gma which is not gaming friendly...
hmm, there's one Lenovo B450A, t4300 and nvidia g105m, around RM15xx or 16xx iinm., thish should be better than acer 4540, can consider this also..

Well, budget wise, can get Alienware m15x, starting from 4kg, RM5999
or also can consider Dell Studio XPS 16, but the problem is delivery time, which can not exceed march, I presume?

btw, as for macbook pro, there's should be a refresh on 10 march, if source is valid....

Well, of course in term of power, the Alienware is much better, but the machine being compared is 4kg vs 1.4kg laugh.gif

GTX260M >> GT330M,
GT330M is around GT240M level btw...

Clear old stocks perhaps?
Well, the RM and QL isn't really that significant of difference in term of power though..
And also Compaq nowadays doesn't really give much better performance:price ratio...

QUOTE(luotang @ Feb 10 2010, 07:25 PM)
how about the speen? also not much different right?

why do you say don't offer much price/performance ratio?
isn't it cheap and has reasonable price?

625AU only costs 1499. i am considering it
but it uses QL65
i don't know why......
*
Speed wise, not much difference unless you can differentiate 0.1ghz difference?
Well, that model is one exception, for other model that around 2k or more, other brand offer much better spec...
There's also Inspiron 14@Rm1499, T4400, GMA4500MHD, 2gb ram, 250gb hdd, but you do get original windows 7 basic for that price..

QUOTE(qsp1985 @ Feb 10 2010, 08:18 PM)
Guys need some recommendation for a new laptop

1)Brand: Open to any suggestion
2)Budget: RM2400(+- RM200)
3)Specs: Erm not to familiar with the current specs but i would like a decent dedicated graphic card hard disk space of about >320gb and 2gb ram min. I had a look at the acer 4740g model which has the following specs

intel core it-430m processor
Windows 7 home premium
500hdd/2gbddr3ram
14" screen
nvidia geforce 310m with 512 dedicated ddr3 vram.

It seems to fit my criteria quiet well. But i am still open to other models. Could anyone tell me why some of the laptop graphic cards has the up to 3067mb of shared memory? Does it make a lot of difference?

4)Size: 13-15"

Thanks guys

For that budget, 4740G would offer better value...

QUOTE(qsp1985 @ Feb 10 2010, 09:41 PM)
Yes the acer 4740g was what i saw on the newspaper hand out. However would that be the best choice? Any other choices that are similar to the acer 4740g?

If i were to lower down to a netbook what would be the recommended model?

thanks again
*
netbook with RM 2.4k you mean?
Current value buy would be Acer 1810TZ@RM 1899

QUOTE(kongregate @ Feb 10 2010, 10:38 PM)
need to purchase a laptop around 4k..

1) prefer 13-14 inches

Well, its sufficient for normal usage, excluding gaming, and if you don't mind paying a bit more for the warranty than other brand, then its quite ok for the price...

Though I must say the system is quite unbalanced since you just paying more for the CPU which might not give you any significant improvement, hence, what's the usage?

Well, as for seldom use for gaming, but you still do gaming or no gaming at all?
If no gaming at all, the inspiron 14 is fine...

Well, since you need at least battery life 3 hours, the best setup would be intel cpu + intel gma, then the inspiron 14 might suit you

Since you mention will still play games, dedicated card would be better to have, though expense in lower battery life...
Must it be 14'' or 15'' is okay?
There's Dell Studio 15, i5 430M + ATi HD4570 for RM 2999....

There are, but doesn't come with i5 which you prefered....
like Asus A42JR, i3 350M + ATi HD5470@RM2699
Toshiba L510-S4318B, i3 330M + ATi HD5145@RM2799

Unless you don't mind 13''
Compaq CQ36-110TX, i5 430M + ATi HD4550@RM2649

Another one would be Compaq CQ41-214TX, i5 430M + ATi HD4330, 14''@RM2549, though the Acer 4740G would give better value...

As for the Studio 14, there's seems to be RM 80 coupon from this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1320638 and also seems that if you use maybank CC to pay for Studio notebook, you can get discount RM250, but do confirm with the Dell Sales Agent first...

Then Acer 1410T@RM 1499
Though it offers single core CPU + intel gma 4500mhd but it still more powerful than atom variant with intel gma 500/950/3150 while still offer long battery life....
While the Acer 1810TZ is dual core CPU and also comes with windows 7 home premium..
