Hi, im going to choose laptop nect week at lowyat, please help me:

cpu = i5 or i7, preferably i7-720QM
gpu = any that good in gaming, support crysis gameplay in medium
brands = HP/DELL/ASUS
price = RM2.5k-Rm3.7k.

any recommendations?

Well, for i5 430M and i3 i350M, they are the same in dual core mode, the only difference is when serving single core application, where the difference is extra 0.3GHz for i5 430M, that's all.
I suggest get A52Jr with i3 350M and upgrade the ram to 4GB.

With that budget, closest is Dell Studio 15@RM3999, but it got much weaker card, ATi HD4570...
Not sure with lowyat plaza availability though.

So far, only DV4, dv4-2115TX and dv4-2120TX, 14'', i5 540M + ATi HD4550, difference one is 2GB ram, 320GB hdd, other is 4GB ram, 500GB hdd. Priced RM3899 and RM4099 respectively...

Planning to get a laptop for my college..Should last me for about 5-6 years and powerful enough to run engineering related programmes

2. Budget : about RM 3500

How do you tell whether a software/games run on single or dual core?
I'm in dilemma choosing either i3 or i5 notebook. Do you think i5 worth the ~RM400 price different?

If you are fine with the 17.3'', then go for it, pretty much the best you can get with that budget.

As for lasting for 5-6 years, well that depends on your demands, technological wise, even 1 year notebook is outdated...
3 years pretty much the limit for me...
I suggest upgrade the warranty when you customized it since the price will be much more expensive when extending after bought it...

Well, there's an app from Intel to show whether your i5/i7 Turbo Boost or not...
Well, if you not doing any cpu intensive, better save up that RM400, its pretty much the same between choosing T6600 or P8600...

Should I go for the I7 instead? Im just curious whether notebooks with higher specs + powerful graphic card which generates lots of heat will tend to kong out earlier compared to simple notebooks?

Best in what? Gaming? Battery life?
Asus A42Jr/A52Jr? Though Vostro 3700 gives better value, if you need better graphic card...

i would prefer battery life and good enough to do some accounting stuff.i still looking for 17 inch laptop at the market to see how the vostro 3700 will look like.

Why not get Asus UL30Vt or UL80Vt if looking for battery life?
if need some picture comparison...
the lowest one would be Vostro 3700, then 3500,3400,3300...
