a relative bought an harman/kardon go+play because poisoned by my klipsch ifi. its a good docking speaker. but the D cell batteries are damn expensive and with the batteries installed it's heavy... i wonder why dont they install a li-ion / even lead acid battery altogether so it is rechargable like an emergency light. lol.

sound wise, ive listened to it without any break-in and its amazing. of course cant be compared to a standard 2.1 system but it sounds very good for the size. only drawback is price, and battery.

Yes, i think it's meant for portability, but at the same time it's quite large and heavy.

For RM1299 i don't think it's a worth buy because there are a few speakers out there priced less than that, sounding twice/trice/quad as good/better. Just that they don't have a dock input.

So you pay couple of hundreds extra to get a dock, but drop in sound quality. I'd rather don't have a dock but have good sound quality IMO. Also, maybe because it supports Apple products, so it's "value" is increased.

But again, it's one of the best sounding dock speakers so far @ that price range... And if you got the means to get an iPhone, these are no problem for you ; )

exactly. for that price if they should have put in a rechargable battery, perhaps something like a laptop battery the price would be quite justified. the 8 piece D cell batteries of energizer can cost about 1/10 of the speaker itself!

but, one thing i like with go+play is that as with klipsch ifi, it uses RF remote control. that is really one big plus, compared to competitors' infrared remote...

Just got HK sound stick 3!

its beautiful, it sounds good for accoustic & vocal..
vocal clarity is excellent. im enjoying my entire music library again..
i find that if ur the type that enjoy jazz, accoustic, blues, classical, these speakers will do you good, not as much if your into bassy type of loud music..

my personal opinion about the soundsticks that the stock speakers/enclosures offer SOUND QUALITY way above 'other' brands 2.1/5.1
and only with a minor re-cap you can really make your soundsticks SHINE!
puts shame to your 500 buck 5.1 set
once you listen to soundsticks, you'll never want to go to any other multimedia brands, then you are ready for real 'audiophile' upgrade adventure!

notice that theres hardly anyone selling 2nd hand sound sticks?
wonder why?
user posted image
why play with cheaper alternatives? ears as good as eyes, give them the best in life!
its a MUST to own this legendary speaker set!

Power down the unit, disconnect your source (3.5mm) and power up again. Is the buzz still there hmm.gif

if what bro E1 - AKG did not solve your problem,

if its still under warranty, send for warranti
i think the powerfilter is almost splat.. that requires opening(void warraty) replacing the aging cap.

The FiiO E7 USB / DAC amp, it is external but you will be surprise how good it sounds.

Hi E1-AKG,

Thanks for the Harmon Soundsticks 3. It looks very nice and sound quality is good.
Im overall impressed with the built and the clearance of space from my old clunky 5.1 R501 Edifier.
Music of the Harmon Soundsticks 3 cannot compare the quality as the Edifier does not give and ambience
does not create the illusion that the music is in the middle of the monitor.

However I noticed some things lastnite while fidelling with some music,
these are just based on my thoughts.. i need to do more testing tongue.gif I'll also be comparing with the
Altec Lansing MX 6021 since its roughly in the price range :

Harmon Kardon Soundsticks 3 : Home Desktop + onboard audio
Altec Lansing MX 6021 : Office Notebook Macbook Pro, onboard sound

For standard 128kbps MP3s = they sound good but not great. Very Clear but I have and MX6021 Altec in the office and that sounds better for Mp3s
For standard youtube music playing = still sound good but MX6021 performs better. Sounds are more Crisp and Powerful.
For FLAC Audio 16bit 44hz = the sound really gets better with the Harmon, the quality is excellent! MX6021 also performed very well but can hear a little bit of plastic rattling.. subtle but its there...
For FLAC Audio 24bit = sound has some cracks and light crackles in between after further testing.. some old songs really can hear some cracks and light crackles from the track of John Lennons "Imagine"

*note : when i play the song Beatles - Paperback Writer,
on the MX6021 it plays the music going left and right very fast..
but for the Soundsticks 3 it plays certain music on the left speaker and right speaker..
it gives a totally different effect.. is my hearing problem or does the Macbook soundcard better
than a standard motherboard audiocard?

Also want to ask since you posted that the FiiO E7 will improve sound?
Can i have more details on that, i have never played with a DAC Amp before and
im just using standard onboard soundcard which i know is not impresive material to
test the speakers out.

Thanks, im trying to optimize my music experience.
Hope anyone can help out and give some feedback.

For the DAC/AMP, you may want to consider the FiiO E10 since you are running 24bit as well.

Hi E1-AKG,

Thanks for the reply.
Does it significantly improve the performance?
Or just by a bit only? Will a soundcard do any difference compared with this?

Thanks.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking to buy one more and lowest price I can find for a new one is RM850... was wondering if anyone had sighted an RM650 or something, since someone mentioned they saw it.

Any supplier to Apple Resellers needs to warrant a minimum price control in the market, otherwise they will refuse to carry the product. In the Sound Stick III case, it is RM899.

Quick question:

I bought Harmon Kaidon Soundsticks III about half a year ago, but now one side isn't working - no sound coming out of it. How does warranty for Harmon Kaidon work in Malaysia? Or do I have to get it fixed elsewhere, and if so, where?

First time buying, and since it's only half a year or so, quite disappointing to me.

Yeah, I did that, but it didn't work.

THEN IT CAME BACK TO LIFE HOURS LATER

I really don't know...seems fine for now but I have no idea why it happened in the first place. Hopefully it's a one off thing.

Bought a new Harmon Kardon Onyx studio 3 from lazada recently. Damn even a portable bluetooth speaker can pack so much punch. Only downside is the built in battery seems to last less then 5 hours as stated by them.

Very bass heavy but can play quite loud. Bluetooth without aptx isn't that impressive. I'm using Aux in most of the time.

Better bluetooth protocol, for CD-like quality streaming. Most better bluetooth headphones/speakers uses Aptx.

I'm actually having the same dilemma as you now, but its between HK SSIII Wireless and Aura Plus (this because it has Optical).

Which one did you finally chose?
