I'm not sure the budget of a set of home theatre system, maybe you can show me the highest end or medium end set selling in the market now. But make sure the specs i mentioned above are available in the system.

dun think there's any answer to "which brand is the best to buy". everyone has different preference so its best to go to a shop and test things out then google for some reviews and ask the forumers for their views.

Entry level HTS like Yamaha, Pioneer with HDMI start from RM3k+
Never saw any with WLAN before...

Budget HTIB - RM2k ish.

Entry Level Separate 5.1 Systems - RM5k ish

Mid Range Separate Systems - RM10k to 20k ish

High End Separate Systems - >20k to Million ish

Which is more in line with your budget ish?

RM20k for sound system is not bad la... 30k would be better so u can get better subby tongue.gif

anyways, for 20k i guess u can go with :

Sub - RM5k (SVS PC12+?)
AVR - RM5k (Denon/Onkyo)
Rest of 5.0 speakers - RM10k (Too many brands out there tongue.gif)

U still need at least RM1k for cables.

oh... sounds like u want a HTIB system, since u got nice budget, y don't u check out the Bose systems... small lifestyle type, think u can get 5.1 set (with Bose receiver) for around 10k (excluding BD player). Then u still have 10k for tv & BD player smile.gif

but if i were to go for lifestyle speakers, I'd go with a real AVR (Denon / Onkyo budgeted around 5k) then get lifestyle 5.1 systems like KEF eggs / B&W for another RM6k or so...

to each their own i guess.... there's no explaining it but u get RM3k sound quality for RM3k and RM20k sound quality for RM20k tongue.gif

so if u r happy with RM3k sound, then 3k is all u need thumbup.gif

In the electronic shop like BEST, HARVEY or SENQ, they don't have a set cost between 10k to 20k? I'm looking at the set like this, just tell me the model set then i'll go to take a look.

let say i have speakers that are 8 ohm
but this avr has this spec:
4 Ohm/8 Ohm Switching: No (6 Ohm only)
so the question is whether my speakers can fit into this avr? can it be done?

Frankly, since your budget is 10-20k you will get better sound if you customise a set (like what ronnt88 suggested). If you go to places like Best Denki, Harvey Norman, etc they will have some sets from the mass market Japanese brands like Pioneer, Sony, Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, etc... it is more convenient but overall you will get more of your money's worth by customising a set by going to the hi-fi shops.

If you wanna physically audition the product, the best place would be Amcorp mall which has the most Hifi shop under 1 roof. Else you can browse this site :

There are so many brands out there... PSB, Klipsch, Wharfedale, Mordaunt Short, KEF, etc.

Please visit some shops to listen to them and see what you like. It does take some effort to visit different shops to listen to different stuff. Also means it might take some time before your whole system is assembled.

Try to visit shops which have a large selection of brands. So more choices for you to mix and match and if you buy a system from them can nego for better price.

What's the advantage of using standalone AMP rather than an AMP which comes with HTIB? More customization option?

I think Harvey do sell the higher end Yamaha Speakers i.e The Saovo series...last I check the 5.1 package can go as low as RM20k
add a RM5k AVR....that's a very beautiful package

or take a look at these:-

Ok, I want a set like this:-

1) Samsung LED TV Series 8 8000 46"
2) Samsung Blu-ray player (which model?)
3) If i use computer speaker Logitech Z5500 is it good enough?

So approximately how much it cost for this set?

My suggestion is to let go samsung blu-ray player and go for cheaper blu-ray player like those PHILIPS one (around RM780)..Then extra money saved go for HTiB..

I think by "standalone AMP" you mean the AVR. Usually the AVR will have a higher quality amp and higher power. AVR might also have more HDMI inputs, might have upscaler and also room correction feature like Audyssey. You can check the features between an AVR and HTIB and compare.

Bro, with your kind of budget. I suggest you head to Bangsar Village II Ground Floor and check out the Bang&Olfusen's there. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to hook you up. B&O definitely 1ups BOSE any time.

Alternatively, you should also check out the Bower & Wilkins showroom in JayaOne Shopping Center. Another good marque to get on your budget
