just get my astro beyond last saturday. picture quality one words to describe, SUPERB. but the HDMI cable quite cheapo, can see sometimes the picture stop for a while. saw astro montly magazine advertise abt monster audio cable, that advertisement also list the bad features of current HDMI cable provided free by astro. i think need to upgrade the HDMI cable liao to see whether really got big different. anyway one things i can sure abt the SD picture quality after upgrade to astro beyond, the picture quality bcome bad. actually previously i not directy connect my astro to tv, i connect this way: 1. Astro to my dvd recorder using S video (with upscale 1080p features) 2. DVD recorder to my Denon AVR 2310 (with video upscale featres also) using HDMI 3. Denon AVR 2310 to my Sony X series LCD (HDMI)
picture quality not bad. but after upgrade to astro beyond, really bad the picture quality. anybody know why?? coz if transfer using HDMI, shd be picture quality much more nicer. i think must be the source problem???
anyway since upgrade to HD, i think i will avoid watching SD channel liao. coz i watch the liverpool vs bolton match in SD channel, really cannot acceptable liao. hope in near future, all the SD channel picture quality must upgrade lah...
1 things to mention, Dolby Digital can be transfer thru HDMI, no need coaxial cable. anyone here know what the new 10 HD channel that will be launch starting April?? Channel that display at the poll above?

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Feb 1 2010, 11:11 AM) To get HD, the b.yond must connect directly to TV by HDMI cable. From the sound of it, the b.yond is connected to DVD-Recorder via composite/component (Astro b.yond has no S-Video), and then upscaled from there. B.yond doesn't do HD through composite (impossible to do HD through composite actually) and for some stupid reason pertaining to copy protection, cannot do HD through component either. You can only get HD if you connect the b.yond by HDMI direct to TV. Hi bro RAMCHYLD, actually i already get HD picture quality, only i want to comments is that for others channel in astro (SD channel), picture quality bcome worst then using my previous decoder.

Hi Bro, actually previously i connect my old decoder to the dvd recorder (with 1080p upscale) and then to TV using HDMI and the picture quality improve. But since change to new decoder (astro beyond) using same way, the picture quality are not the same. bcome worst for SD channel. Added on February 1, 2010, 11:57 amQUOTE(writesimply @ Feb 1 2010, 11:37 AM) Are you sure it's not your TV or the decoder or your receiver? actually not totally stoplah, only not smooth (dunno how to describe itlah) but i m sure must be the cheapo HDMI cable problem, u will know why when i post the advertisement Scan the ad and post the pic here. I'm using the cheap HDMI cable and it's fine. i will take the picture with my phone 2nite and put it here Upgrade if you want but don't spend more than RM50 on a HDMI cable. fuad dun think monster audio cheapo, so maybe look for other brand HDMI cable This post has been edited by cyberkoh88: Feb 1 2010, 11:57 AM

QUOTE(eMKs @ Feb 2 2010, 05:35 PM) Not to say so, but might be. If you didn't notice any different between 1080i/720p on HD channel, better set to 720p as 1080i annoying you on SD channel. Just type your tv model, Google it will help to find the spec. 1 way to check your tv de-interlaced filter, compare PQ between 576i & 576p set on byond, watch normal scene & fast action scene (both must be HD channel) will give you some idea. U need to use HDMI, component/composite only output 576i. if u watch sport channel more than learning or movie channel, then set at 720p, else 1080i

fyi,
1. New byond smart card are tie to yr decoder, u cannot use yr smart card in other byond decoder or old decoder. 2. can use new beyond smart card plus decoder and connect it using old satellite dish (60), mean if yr frens or yr parent hse still using old decoder, u can just bring back the new byond decoder + smart card and plug it into it (can view both SD and HD channel) 3. Old smart card can be slot into byond decoder but only can use normal video cable only to view the picture. If u use HDMI cable, no picture. i also dunno why. maybe got any brother enlighten on this issue (or need to do additional setting) 4. If u live on condominium that using centralized dish, u still can use new byond smart card + decoder and plug into it. (Only can view SD channel only, HD channel cannot, need to wait for yr condo management to upgrade the dish)
all the scenario above tested.
