To gogo2 and others who like Pillar-Box, please make an example of TallJustin
He too prefers PillarBox, but the way he says and explains it doesnt make any people pissed off
He like PillarBox and suggest to us to use it but he accepts respects others who want stretch
Not just on the stretch issue but other issue as well, TallJustin has been a a good sport

I would take that anyday if PQ is close to F1 HD UPSCALE
But that would take up a lot of bandwith and will not be a good business move by Astro
But then again
Screwing up business decisions are Astro specialty..

Hey..to all of u out there
If Astro say they were following international standard of broadcasting, then that refers to Pillar Box mode right?
Astro had this 'International Standard' before the firmware update
So what were they doing replacing stretch with zoom in the first place since it had nothing to do with Pillar Box?

When watching the update advertisement on Astro, it says it will update the list of services
What does that mean apart from the zoom mode option?
Also does that mean new channels? Coz i thought would launch Astro Arena this month..
I actually think I saw the advertisement for the new channel, befor the uproar of the zoom/stretch issue
But have not seen the advertisement since..has the launch been postponed? Or was I dreaming all along?

N 1 more thing..
I think it would be cool if the big Astro logo on the banner when we switch channel, be changed to the logo of the channel itself..
U know the banner Im talking about right? Black background with astro logo with the current and next programme on the channel..
Change that to display the channel logo and it would look awesome..Just a suggestion..

Bro..u can set the banner to appear for a maximum of 10 seconds

Press home>settings>your settings>banner settings
then change to 10seconds..press Blue button to confirm the change

Actually bro..the pictures on TallJustins blog does not tell the real story..
In that picture, the womans head can be seen clearly..
But 90% u cant see her forehead..thats the problem with the zoom mode..
Did u also realise the channel logo can no longer be seen?
The same happens to all channel
For football fans, the scoreboard at the to of the screen virtually disapears
N the second line of subtitle also cant be seen
That the main problem with zoom mode..dunno why astro even bothered to implement it
U should come back and see it mate..its horrendous!

Regarding new HD channels,
I don't think the World Cup can be considered channels
Yes I know the World Cup has 5 channels set
But it is merely because some matches will take place at the same time
Astro will show all 64 matches LIVE so thats the reason for extra channels
I also think the total might be more or less than 5
The last World Cup had 8 channels..they had different camera angles of the matches on the 8 channels..
I also remember a channel for chat and news
So what I'm trying to say is the World Cup channels will be temporary only
So I dont think Astro consider that as a channel

I do believe new HD channels will be made available this year..
Maybe up to 10 channels like Astro said
But everyone must remember..someone said here that SKY in the Uk have had HD for 4 years now..
But they still only have 32 HD channels
N in Asia someone said only 8 or 9 HD channels only available
I know RAMChYLD said a CS staff said no more new channels this year..
Don take the words of the staff for granted..
They are just on the Customer Service department
Even TallJustin who works on the tech team at Astro doesnt know anything about new channels until it is launched
Basically the people who know about new channels will be the people at the programming department

Imagine if the whole of Astro staff know about new channels
N say one of them let the secret out in the public
Imagine how people will call Astro non stop asking when is launch, what channel is new and so on..
It will spread rumours and be chaotic to handle

So lets just wait and have an element of surprise when we get the new info on HD channels..
Anyways, there is no guarantee that the new HD channels will be available in ur subscription
Imagine a new HD channel for Dynasty package or Metro package or Variety package
I dont have the package so i wont get
So even if u are demanding it now and astro does launch new HD channel, tough luck u might not even get it..
So lets just wait and see k..

If ur using component, switch to HDMI
If ur already on HDMI, put on standby then there will be a notice on the screen saying its updating
On ur decoder panel will also display AUTO UPDATE..

The new firmware is BYOND v.1.2 s
Software version is: 1.1.2.001 Mar 15 2010

Update just takes maximum of 5 minutes but it took me less than that
Dont worry bout UEFA Champions League
Its normal again bro..
ESPN HD also got

ASTRO ARENA LAUNCHING 26 MARCH 2010
CHANNEL 801

Its a channel where all the sports will be Malaysians involved
So they have new channel for football, badminton, squash and so on
I think cool la..at least we get to see Malaysians in sports more often

Another thing i read on Astro FB was like below..

something weird just happened
I was watching disney channel
Suddenly around 1205 am the channel sdudenly was changed to one of Astro in-house Indian channel
The number on the the decoder was still ch615
I changed to another channel then again keyed in 615
It says disney bur the programme was still the Indian channel one
Then i chnage again to another channel
5 minutes later i keyed in 615
Channel not available..!
What the heck..?
I checked the EPG TV Guide..and 615 was not in the list
I went into my room to get my phone to call Astro
Came back out..key in 615, suddenly back to normal..disney again..
I know Hong Kong are getting new disney channel
Thought astro were dropping the channel
If they drop it then I would have dropped the cartoon package straight away..
Disney and cartoon network are the only reason I give the kids the channel..

Weird Astro..someone playing around on a sunday night ar?
Dont drop channels..u should add them..

where was this? Never read it in newspapers here..
the problem i had was not my fault..
i typed 615..the EPG said it was Disney but the content was the Indian in-house channel
As if Astro were playing around having fun putting Indian channel content in kids channel Disney
Then a few minutes later i check the channel was gone..like never existed
I think the clown at Astro had enough of the fun and was rebooting whatever they were messing around with
Another 2 minutes and normal again
I think they were having a laugh for fun
Luckily it was not Porno..
