QUOTE(AjkR06 @ Mar 24 2010, 03:55 PM) The most "worse" is pillarbox in 16:9 tv.... yeah .. you are probably right.. people are not complaning because human eyes are side by side so naturally wide rectangular picture is more comfortable than close to square picture... that's why they came out with the 16:9 ratio in the first place...it is because, many of us, are already used to lettterbox than pillarbox... Until now, have you heard of people in Malaysia complaint to RTM/Media Prima for the movie/drama with 2 black bar on the top and the bottom of the screen?? mathematically also, a 29" 4:3 tv produce a bigger letterbox size (27" letterbox diagonal) than size of hypothetical 29" 16:9 tv pillar box (24" pillar box diagonal)... http://www.cnet.com/1990-7874_1-6307377-1.html but it has to be mentioned that market equivalent to 29" 4:3 tv is not 29" 16:9 tv but 42" 16:9 tv.... meaning most people in HDTV world use 42" tv as most people in CRT world use 29".... if ASTRO to push pillar box to 42" HDTV user, they can still came out with a rather comfortable 34" pillarbox.. but if they push letterbox to 29" CRT tv users, they wont be happy with the rather small 24" letterbox.... my first Byond experience is actually on a CRT tv and i cant see anything in the HD channel...luckily my HDTV arrived the next day.. these transition take time i guess... we are not there yet, but 4:3 ratio is getting irrelevant by the minute.. QUOTE(aressandro10 @ Mar 24 2010, 12:30 PM) Resolution-wise, it's the latter. 4:3 TV would be SD while 4:3 EDTV (Enhanced Definition TV available only in the US) wouldn't give you the full HD resolution. As far as aspect ratio is concerned, both are acceptable so long as the content is shown in its OAR.Added on March 24, 2010, 11:37 pm QUOTE(silbii @ Mar 24 2010, 10:59 PM) ...and didn't know that it's in HBO HD alrady coz i followed it from the SD versions...awesome awesome... I don't follow True Blood but I saw a bit of it on HBO HD yesterday. Unfortunately, the master tape that HBO use is not in HD so True Blood on HBO HD is upscaled. There are several movies that are upscaled on HBO HD include Made of Honor. Hopefully when they air The Pacific it would be in HD and they would minimize the censorship and have correct 5.1 audio. If not, it'd be a long wait until I get my hands on the BD box set later this year. Good to hear about Discovery Channel. I do hope that we get the US feed like NGC. Really dislike History HD because of how the UK version destroys the feel of Cities Of The Underground. Too bad we'll miss out on the broadcast of Life, which is something like Planet Earth, Discovery's co-pro with BBC. fuad This post has been edited by writesimply: Mar 24 2010, 11:48 PM |

hi, im new here, just want to ask a few questions, i would like to say sorry if it has been asked.. coz im lazy to search since there are 3 versions already...
im thinking of subscribe this Astro beyond after i bought a new tv.... i wanted to buy a plasma tv, but the salesman said if i want to subscribe the new astro, LCD would be better, the picture looks nicer, since the signal is compatible/better for the LCD TV... if i use back the old astro, then PLASMA TV is ok, but not for new astro/ astro beyond... is it real? any panasonic plasma user with astro beyond here? would like to have some advices... thanks... |

QUOTE(jeffdnp @ Mar 24 2010, 11:46 PM) No it isn't, lazy bones. Resolution wise, they should be exactly the same; a 1080p plasma would have the same resolution as a 1080p LCD. It is about how comfortable you are with the picture of LCD/plasma. Some older plasmas have pixel structure that is visible within 2 feet and some people don't like that; the solution to that is get the higher end plasmas. LED LCDs give comparable black levels to that of good plasmas but of course, that also affects the price. Buy a TV that fits your budget, gives great quality picture (when all the enhancements are turned off), and has a design that you like. fuad |
