I think Celine Deon & David Foster are the current best.

Too bad Sarah brightman concert in Vienna no BD only released in DVD according to wiki.

Other than Celine Dion and David Foster, "Quincy Jones' 75th birthday celebration - live at Montreux 2008" also surprisingly good to me.

The Police: Certifiable - Live in Buenos Aires.

I suggested this concert before. and you will not regret. Get from eBay for only Rm100 new. Shipped all the way from Canada for my case. Friend of my follow suit. Amazing details and sound. Come with 3 disc. 1 Bluray and 2 Audio CD. The 2 audio CD is the whole live concert which is rare and great quality too. 2 songs comes with multi angle. "Wrapped Around Your Finger" and "King Of Pain". Wrapped Around Your Finger has this percussion and drum session which will definitely thrills you. The video quality is fantastic too. When the camera is shooting at the crowd, you can actually see so details of each faces of those people. Highly recommended!

Blue Man Group: How to be a Megastar is damn good (excellent show and great AQ), Flight 666 is a must for Maiden fans. I was a bit disappointed with Rush: Snake & Arrows - not their best concert I've seen. John Mayer also good, this dude can really make the guitar cry.

I also enjoyed AC/DC live at Donington- with the right equipment at times you feel like your right speaker is a stack of Marshall amps!

I saw Beyonce's live bluray at the shop a while back- AQ/VQ quite good but it's not my cup of tea.

I am still looking for 'Abbey Road: Live Season 1' bluray- the thing is out of print. Any leads guys?

Any reviews on Bon Jovi's concerts? One thing I hate is that most of the time in a Bon Jovi concert, the audience do the singing.

Bocelli is very good. AQ is good, centre channel is rarely used. its more of a 4.1 setup although it is 5.1 PCM. The PQ is on the soft side but the scenery is breathtaking. The concert is very good if u r into Bocelli.

Led Zep TSRTS wasn't a full concert performance disc - it was more like a movie/rockumentary of the US tour

still, it's live Zep, and that's always worth it thumbup.gif

Eagles on HD-DVD. That I have. Blu-ray ... still waiting.

Another to add to the list ..... Hall & Oates Live At The Troubadour. Nice intimate setting .... not stadium concert scale.

Diana Krall so poor? And Led Zep AQ/PQ so poor also? Thanks for sharing your opinion. smile.gif

Diana Krall rated low on performance because i was comparing to her Live In Paris set which to me had a more solid setlist and tight performance....

The Rio show to me has Krall in rather lazy mood... just my two cents...

also the PQ has loads of grain especially on the darker scenes... no complaints on the AQ tho which is a solid transfer

Led Zep TSRTS wasn't a full concert performance disc - it was more like a movie/rockumentary of the US tour

yeap...didnt even bother with the movie bits tho... in fact i find them rather stupid *lol*

but the performance of Zep was in their prime imho... and for anyone with appreciation of anything rock guitar music...this cannot be ignored....

if the doors ever gets released on Bluray i would buy in a heartbeat...

The HD audio is darn good thumbup.gif

Btw, I still finds that CD : Live in Vegas aint as excellent. The vocal still not as fwd sounding as I want it to be. In comparison, CD's vocal sounds better in DF & Friends.

Robbie Williams : Live At Albert is quite good.

the movie part in TSRS is just insane, you need to be really high on drug to understand it biggrin.gif

but the drug fueled 10 minutes guitar solo by page and 10 minute drum solo by bonham is the stuff of legend notworthy.gif

I hv a few concert bds .. namely Shakira, Hall n Oates, Barry Manilow, Kenny G, Chris Botti , David Foster n Celine Dion( oso a ttl called Corteo but tats not a concert per se..) n as a pckgd product CD is one fine production.. VDO is excellent n u hv to to be in awe of its sets/props.. All de rest is fine but no comparison to CD..

I do believe tat u mus be a fan to want to buy a live concert on media.. its definitely not sumtin tat u can learn to love, after multiple viewings or sumtin like tat..

Diana Krall: Live in Rio.

Both are really good. Plan to get more when I go down to SG. BD's are cheaper there, particularly now with their 2 for SGD70 and 3 for SGD99 offer.

notice that our music shops here sell them from RM79.00 to as high as RM130.00 ... for some titles .. claiming that some they bring in themselves and some by dist. ...

No sure if there are any classical concert lovers here

I got this this weekend

Keeping Score-Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique ~ San Francisco Symphony, et al. (Blu-Ray - Nov. 10, 2009)

Berlioz is NOT one of my favorite composer, having heard a snipet of the same orchestra on DVD and was blown away by the orchestration separation, I bought this Blu Ray.

It starts of by introducing the viewer a little bit about the composer and then what inspired this particular piece (NOT BORING I assure you) then then plays the whole orchestration, and again the sound blows ones mind!

Am definitely getting the rest of thie blu-ray series and maybe even the season 1 dvds!

Technically I think only kena tax if over RM500 (incl shipping cost). But customs don't always check, so quite often will not kena tax. But if unlucky then will kena tax.

Also worth noting is the audience in this concert. Their sing-along and response throughout the concert is simply amazing. A great audience can make a concert experience so much better thumbup.gif
Audience participation does make a concert nice to watch! This I agree very much.

I like the Queen Live In Montreal concert but I thought the Montreal audience is weird. They are like no minat. Maybe they think Freddie was way too weird. tongue.gif
This put a damper into the concert. Made the concert un-interesting.

A word of thanks and gratitude to all who contributed to this thread.
Based on the recommendations, I ordered Celine Dion in Las Vegas, Il Divo in Barcelona and Andrea Bocelli in Tuscany.
The BD arrived yesterday afternoon ( lag time 9 days).
Watched Il Divo and Celine Dion at one strectch last night and my wife and I were both more than pleased....
May I ask, do you all watch in stereo or use the 5.1 option?
I switched to stereo for the Celine Dion concert as the side surround was 'leaking' some high freq music that was rather distracting.

Glad u enjoyed de recommendations..

I personally watchd Celine Dion - Vegas Concert in lossless odo.. didnt detect any obtrusive sound frm de surrnds .. mostly surr worked during de ambience parts of audience participation at end/beginnin of songs..

I normally use the 5.1 option.

I played the Celine Dion concert before, didn't notice anything unusual coming from the surround speakers.

Received my copy of Bon Jovi: Live At Madison Square Garden this morning. Top notch AQ and PQ like all recent concerts.

The standout performance have to be the song I'll Be There For You, sung by Richie Sambora. Simply amazing. Enjoyed it more than the version sung by John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. Prolly listened to it 4-5 times already today while surfing laugh.gif

beautiful concert...wonderful voice, even though I don't understand Italian, I feel peace and harmony when I close my eyes and listen.....I just want to go on untill my two "fa kuat loong" starts making noise sweat.gif

only complaint is the 5.1LPCM, the singer's voice are from L/R and not center speaker sad.gif

If ur L/R are setup up correctly, it shd seem like the voice is coming from the centre. Stereo imaging is under rated. In good stereo setups, the centre imaging is taken well taken care.

If u were not getting the vocals from the centres, u might need to move ur L/Rs about until u get good imaging. This is a good test disc to see if ur stereo imaging is correct.

In a lot of the good setups, u will find that they try their best to do away with the centre speaker. The reason is if the centre speaker does not blend in well (due to the display location, and the height being different, as well as the drivers in some cases) it spoils the imaging by pulling the vocals every so slightly. So L/R setup is very important, especially when listening to stereo sources.

On another note, spent some time re-listening Chris Botti: Live (With Orchestra and Special Guests) last night. Very good AQ, some good double bass work there as well. My best track however, was Message in a Bottle (in the extras). Need to get the Police Certifiable Blu Ray now!

I believe that MJ was a pale shadow of what he was. There were so many songs where he was really past it. It was so sad. 'I Can't Stop Loving You' and his rendition of Jackson 5 hits showed how much his voice had changed over time. Having said that, MJ is superb as an entertainer. He's really a genius and there is no other word to describe him. His dancing is still superb and I still think it's a pity that this concert never made.

Totally agree with ya. Since the concert was never occurred so they have to combine all the rehearsal footage available to complete this BD. It would have been wonderful to have the actual concert BD but since MJ had passed away before the concert, it would be the 2nd best option to have this presented this way. From the footage, MJ truly knew what he was doing... BTW. I'm not MJ fan but do own a couple of his CDs...

I think the SQ of the BD is excellent, MJ's SQ is the one actually not so great laugh.gif

To be fair to him, he did mention several times in the show that he purposely sing "cacat" a bit during those rehersals to jaga his voice nod.gif

Watched about an hour of MJ's This Is It. The music is very good. His voice may be a bit off as pointed out by arj but not piercing though. I must say that he was a great entertainer if not the greatest of our time.

The AQ on This Is It is superb. It's MJ that was off. Agreed with what arj said, he did not sing full heartedly as it was only rehearsals (as he mentioned in the BD). His dancing was also half-hearted for the same reason i.e. conserving himself for the gruelling concert ahead.

It's really a pity the concert didnt materialise as that would have most likely showcased him at his concert-best - he's known to always give his all to his fans.

He really killed "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" in the BD. Sinead O'Conner is probably cringing if she heard it. And the back-up singer was really not on par to duet on this song. I'm really surprised the producers included this into the BD. It's probably the worst track on the BD. Having said that, the female guitarist is a cute peach though. tongue.gif

Too bad "Heal The World" didnt make it into the concert/BD though. It's one of my fav MJ songs.

The female guitarist is called Orianthi and she already has a hit called 'According to you'. biggrin.gif

Comparison of Orianthi is made instantly with Kelly Clarkson. I do enjoy Orianthi (yeah, she is way too hot playing on the guitar!) much more. Her album is very much listenable. thumbup.gif

I think considering the blue ray quality of concert, this type of bluray disc will make the keeping of disc more worthwhile than most movie disc.

I have DVD version of the following which I think worth the mention. I have no idea where can I get the blue ray version of these:

1. joe hisaishi in nippon budokan-25 years with hayao miyaza
2. Ennio Morricone on Ennio Morricone - live concert of most of his famous movie theme works.

Those are timeless concert I think.

I started watching yesterday around 1145pm @ 20db. Thought of just testing the disc but ended up watching the whole concert till 3am.

PQ is top notch 4.5/5
AQ comes in PCM 5.1, DTSHDMA 5.1, and karaoke track as well.

I have this too. The center has sound (DTS HD MA) but quite low. The AQ not as I wished as it sounds muffled whenever Jacky uses the microphone to sing. The AQ improves a bit when he uses the mic. I think the recording is not top notch.

Jacky's voice is specifically mixed to FR/FL only. center is only mixed with some ambient sounds. It was mixed specifically this way because the producer in his infinite wisdom thinks "most ppl have quality main speakers not center speakers". This is all over the HK forums. It's like listening a CD playing 2 channels plus background ambiance added.

I tried finding all over the web for metal concerts , apart from Korn, Metallica, Maiden...can't find some old school bands like Deicide, Megadeth, Slayer, W.A.S.P, Kreator, Destruction.

Anyone seen or came across metal blu-ray?

Spend some time re-listening to John Mayer last night...

I have to say, the concert is really top notch. Being 1080p there is absolutely no artifacts. The AQ is also fantastic. With the SVS AS-EQ1 the bass is articulate and really very enjoyable. The accoustic session was the best for me. Though the blues trio session was also quite different. My favourite song was John Mayer's version of Free Fallin.

Yes, i also enjoyed shakira tremendously. Great audio and dancing ... feast for the eyes.

Another good title to share is the Eagles Farewell Tour 1 Live Fr Melbourne. It's not released in bluray yet. Bought the ori DVD. Attended the same tour in Spore too. There is a 720p mkv version; the pq beats the dvd version hands down, the dts audio is good too. Spectacular concert if u like eagles brand of country rock!!!!

Yes .. but for odo.. I didnt say de vdo is briliiant.. try it n get back to me on tis.. [ for vdo - its so so only - sligtly above avrg]

Odo is solid wif full use of surrounds n sub.. I dunno if its technical gimmickry at work but de odo is sublime wif none of dat bleedin ambience sound associated wif a wide open space concert - tis one sounds like its in a closed hall.. Like I said previously, its not really a concert..

The Killers are good. It kinda reminds me of the kind of music I used to dig when I was in university. Stellar PQ and very good AQ. Check out the bass guitar riffs, its is very good, especially if ur sub is tuned right. Tight bass.

Check out the track called Shadowplay for some good bass riffs.

Guys, do you think most BDs sell by Speedy are considered "inferior" compare to those "imported" BD from Amazon?

Although some of BDs from Speedy do not have "imported" tag but I think they still source these BD from US rite??

Just finished watching David Foster concert. This is the 1st time watching blu concert & one word to describe AWESOME.

I have mkv version with dts surround format but never thought that lossless audio can generates so much involving effect in concert. And never thought that my system can sound so lively with music flowing out of speaker box. soundstage is huge & bass is tight too in comparison with its core format.

I wonder how far bluray concerts can showcase in Chris Botti & Tsai Chin Live in HK. My next wanted list.

I also came across blu-ray concerts at Ezy Video but not cheap as you've mentioned. Also there's one Victoria in Amcorp Mall right?

Have you came across David Gilmour concert, Rush , Iron Maiden in blu-ray, or Pink Floyd.

I would love to see these titles in Blu-ray if you know they does exist in blu-ray format..

Yes - there's a Victoria in Amcorp too ...

Have not come across those that u mentioned above ..

According to them - some are brought in by the local dist and the price is about RM75 - RM79 .. but not much titles ...

have only seen Robbie Williams, Michael Buble and Davis Foster at that price..

for the rest is above RM100, maybe they import it directly ..

just opened and enjoying it - and as AFD mention - the AQ and PQ is great.

my beginner's review - pls no lasering.

the DTS HD is really good ... transfering about 5MB AQ constantly ...

really tests out your LCD / Plasma colours to the max with black contrasts ... brows.gif

and very good close concert environment - excellent for good HT System ...

excellent group and effort put in by the Killers and production team ...

AQ wise seriously good ... this is a keeper ... biggrin.gif

Should I need it later I sure will PM ONE of you biggrin.gif At the moment I just ordered Chris Botti & Tsai Chin Live in HK.
I guess Tsai Chin is a must owned concert as it has DTS-Master 5.1 & LCPM audio 5.1 shocking.gif .....which you can benchmark the 2 greatest audio mixed in the same disc!

Hi,

I hv de local speedy version :

VDO is gud but I seem to hv a bit of a prblm wif its dts hd odo -- there dont seem to be vocals cuming frm de ctr channel.. note pls tat its quite hard to discern this as if u normally sit in d sweet spot, u prbbly would miss tis as vocals still emit thru de LR channels..
De only way I can force vocals thru de ctr is by using de pcm track n force dpl thru my 7002..

Worth notin is tat, at first I tot its a one off prblm wif my disc.. then I got hold of a BDR - china version n its exactly de same..

Other than tat, MB is s must hv if u like his kind of music..

Cheers

Yeah, her vocals was awesome and make my system stand out even playing in mkv, dts format.

I can't wait my BD to arrive to test it out. I experienced before using its LPCM 5.1 is better than DTS-master 5.1.

How does it sound to you??

Good morning lads,

I'm tired of finding for metal band blu-ray, only that can be found was AC/DC, Meatloaf, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Nile.

If anyone come across bands like Maiden, Napalm Death, Slayer, Kreator, Destruction, Megadeth on blu-ray , alert me rclxms.gif

I whack DTS-MA 5.1 straight as preferred audio output.
I am not a Tsai Chin fan but it sounds good to me, it's more for my parents in law. laugh.gif

Just checked Tsai Chin got DTS-MA 6.1.
This is something that personally I don't like.
The mixing of DTS MA + ES make the back stage sound weird in 7.1.

So far the best HK concert vocal I have, it's from Hins Cheung live in GZ.
It got DTS-MA 7.1, making the staging sound very full.

biggrin.gif Got the chance to listen to a few songs since taukeh brought it over to my shop to test it out.

Anyway, the center loses out to his mighty RC-64 as it is ablve to provide a wider staging.

Talking abt concert, haven't able to watch George Michael Live In London. Busy nowadays sweat.gif

Taukeh, your room is more controlled with LENRD. drool.gif
Still got lots of things to learn from you.

piaseh.... I need to learn from you too. For the record, I ain't sifu. I am still learning by listening to more setup especially elite systems. Need to get my ears 'well' trained.

Still a lot of room for improvement. Will be having the LENRD up in front and those acoustic panels covering the front corners. It would be LENRD on top corner and 2' x 8' panel on each corner.

RC-64 is no child's play whistling.gif A really good performer. If my biz does grow in a rapid manner, I will surely get the RF-63, RC-64 as well as RS-62 for my HT room. The next step forward would be THX Ultra 2 setup with 2 PB13-Ultra or possibly SB16-Ultra. Praying hard that my dream comes true sweat.gif

laugh.gif Sometime, I go to the shop early in the morning esp Sat and Sun as it will be quieter. Do calibration and testing before opening for biz. HM also making noise sweat.gif coz I normally forgotten about breakfast tongue.gif

Done the wrong pairing for DSX. The is some degree of mismatch. I will switch the MBS-01 to be Front Wide and the SCS-01(M) to be surround. All of a sudden, itching for an upgrade in avr. Maybe hold on for a little longer to see how 3D tech and HDMI 1.4 affects the new line up hmm.gif

11.2 would be ideal even though the room is not a big one. Front, center, Front Height, Front Wide, Surround, rear surround, 2 subwoofers.

Will try This Is It, Michael Buble and Police concert during this week.

Dunno yet but if tight on budget, 4810 (or newer model since aint have moolah now) will be the safer bet as it has 11.3 pre-out. That is more than sufficient. Just plonk-in another 2 channel high power amp to take over front. FH, Ctr and FW via Emo XPA-5. Balance by 4810 itself.

I can always bring the 9.2 in for you nia tongue.gif

Posted abt the Dolby Pro Logic IIz and Audyssey DSX as a new topic. Seems like no one is using except saprozeldo.

Boss, no lah sweat.gif . Small fry only nia. blush.gif

Tried out George Michael Live in London with Audyssey DSX Wide. Now, it did have those concert feeling with expansive soundstage. Felt like an audience thumbup.gif . Cranked it right up to -13dB.

Shall make some tweaking and room tuning to get the whole system better by this weekend since the MCS-01 is going elsewhere whistling.gif .

Anyone appreciate chinese old song should listen to TSAI CHIN Live in HK. The rich vocal of the singer is always become audiophiles demo disc & this Bluray by means is no exception.

The BD is encoded with Uncompressed PCM5.1 & DTS Master 6.1. Tested both track and felt the singer's vocal is more appealing in PCM codec. Looking at PCM, it is mixed at 16bit/48k compare to DTS-M 24bit/96k. The later has double bitrate of PCM but still not as outstanding as PCM. I guess it is more of the recording process at the concert hall.

Anyway, it is truly a masterpiece recording rclxms.gif

Watching The Police: Certifiable at the moment. As mentioned countless times before in this thread, the PQ and AQ are flawless! I especially like the sound of the drums. You won't find anything better on BD. That being said, unfortunately I don't really enjoy their music so this is going into my sale thread soon....

Source : blu-ray.com

"If you consider yourself a serious fan of Rush and their music, then you should definitely add Rush: R30 to your library. The show is terrific and the presentation wonderful.

The Blu-ray disc herein reviewed, courtesy of Anthem Entertainment/Zoe Records, is also attractively priced. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED rclxms.gif .

ahahaha ... just go for disc 2 .. it is much better than disc 1, my opinion of coz ...

jewel's talent is not her guitar skills, it's her vocal rendition, her song writing, her story telling ....

the audio quality of the bd is fantastic ... not for bass freaks tho as the concert focus purely on strings & wind instruments ... those with good centre speakers will excel ...

eg ... jewel's narration:

"... i worked as a part time waitress .. i sucked at being a waitress
... i took another job at an IT company in san diego .. i soon left too .. coz i refused to suck" .. tongue.gif

mpyw, htkaki .. if u dun want yr jewel bd .. sell to me cheap-cheap please .. ahahahahaha!!!

Hi

I have the above

The recording is AMAZING (if you appreciate classical music)

Although it is a Blu-Ray Audio, your TV would display which track is playing and from which album is that tract from 9it is after all a sample Blu-Ray)

I love the following tracks

Marianne Thorsen/Trondheim Solistene Mozart: VIolin Concerto in D Mino
Dena Piano Duo Mozart: Sonata for 2 Pianos in D Minor
Ellen Sejersted Bedtker/Oslo Kammersolister Vere Meininga/Magnar Am
Berit Opheim Versto Springar etter Gudmund Eida where they replace violin with vocals (because they could find a fiddler and wanted to dance)

I cannot emphasize enough on how amazing the sound quality is for this Blu-Ray. The depth, the sound stage etc

my two Sen

I always fancy the vocal to be only on center channel. The only one that I have is Shakira Oral Fixation Tour. The rest of the concerts have the vocal over FL, C and FR.

Sometime ago, i bought this DVD Megadeth "Rude Awakening" live concert from US.
The vocal is more on C rather that FL / FR , usually metal concerts vocals are over FL, FR or mixed. I could sometime here to solo on C too in DVD , not BD.

No metal concert on BD to test. I know Metallica, Marilyn Manson, Meatloaf, Ozzy on BD. Need to get them and test the AQ

Megadeth not on blu-ray, it was on DVD. Probably remaster in blu-ray could possibly have the PQ / AQ better.

Definitely good AQ for me and of course the PQ needs to be at least decent. Then again, most concerts in BD looks good but not so for audio as some of it aint that good.

Erm..... AFAIK, it's an empty land (actually a small garden on the same plot) next to his HT room whistling.gif

The best HT room that I had visited thus far is in a basement. Not sound intrusion or whatsoever. Even if the owner installs a kick-a** HT system in his expansive living hall (yes, hall not room) and crank to reference level, I doubt his neighbours will complain. The nearest one would be more than 100m away from his land sweat.gif That house itself has such a big land. Building to building, probably more than 150m rclxub.gif sweat.gif
