QUOTE(ar188 @ Jan 23 2010, 05:28 PM) HTiB normally use low impedance speaker to claim high wattage RMS output. 3 ohms cos it's a passive subwoofer. TS, it's not possible as I believe your subwoofer was a passive sub woofer. AVR don't normally drive a syb woofer direct. They need an active sub woofer(with built in amp).

TS,
Getting an AVR to drive your current speakers to get 5.1 will not be possible. But, what you can do by stage is. Connect your 3ohms speakers in a series* (not sure if it's parallel) to achieve 6ohms or so, and you might be able to get a 2ch setup for a while. Next on the list will be; a) get an active sub b) get a center speaker c) get a pair of front speaker *then push your DIY from HTib to surround d) get surrounds and make your HTib History.
so you'll have something like this; 2ch > 2.1ch > 3.1ch > 5.1ch .... Stereo with a sub is quite ok. ok.
I've ran my Yammy amp with 4 x HTiB speakers to make a Pair of 2x2 before. Just don't go blasting ahead first lo.
