Hi all sifus, Sorry for opening a new thread for this, as the pinned amplifier recommendation thread is quite messy with other info. As i just installed Astro Beyond and also due to more and more hardware that i have to connect to amplifier, can you guys recommend me a entry level amplifier with HDMI connection? My budget is btw 2-3k. I dont have any special requirement, just need to be able to support 5.1 speaker and with at least 3 HDMI inputs. Below is from my research. Please help to comment. 1. Onkyo TX-SR507 - RM1800 2. Onkyo TX-SR507 - RM2800 3. Denon AVR1910 - RM2800 thanks so much in advance. |

I suggest you look around for used Amp. Their technology changes so fast that its not worth getting a new unit. Besides, used Amp with good spec cost almost the same as new under spec unit.
Save your money in speakers instead, which will last longer technology wise. My 2 cents. |

For 2-3K you can get a pretty decent AV Receiver that support Master Audio like DTS-HD and Dolby True HD and most of them come with at least 3 HDMI input nowadays. Since you are buying a new equipment, just go for the lastest tech.
The Onkyo TX-SR507 doesn't get very good reviews from pro so if you are a person who go by reviews then you might want to pass on this one. Check out Marantz SR6004 or the older 6003. |

AVR's are always evolving n gettin a new format - used amp is not easy cos owner prbbly has no reason to sell until a new format cums along [dd/dts to ddtruhd/dtsma].. but sumtimes u can find a gem in Stars audio classifieds or hifi4sale.. I suggest u get a budget avr wif wat u nid n jus enjoy de hobby - I dunt tink there is one brand tat is outritely de best in everytin n one tat is bad outrite.. Cheers D |

Hi does anyone have say about
Pioneer 1019 compared to Onky TR-707? TR-707 have the THXII, and also with higher processing chips Price seem to be similar.. Added on January 24, 2010, 1:02 am 1. Onkyo TX-SR507 - RM1800 2. Onkyo TX-SR607 - RM2800 3. Denon AVR1910 - RM2800 thanks so much in advance.
TX-SR707 can get at RM3200 only.. if go for 607, better than SR707, my 2 cents.. now i'm only want to compare between PIONEER 1019 and SR707 wonder anyone can know about this Only a little bit lean towards SR707 is because - newer with higher power processing chips, consider mid-high - THX certified - 6 input HDMI i want to pair with JAMO 506 (heard that it's newer than 606) at RM2120 and JAMO 200 SUB (RM650) do you all think it's a good buy??? am in the same dilemma few weeks back about getting an avr amp.
after much deliberation, plonked down a reasonable rm1600 for Yamaha RX-V465. the RX-465 would be a good simple buy as compared to its younger brother, RX-V365. initially the lowest price I could find for RX-V365 was RM950 in PJ. even Pioneer was next expensive and up the ladder to onkyo, denon, marantz, nad, etc. (in terms of their lowest range avr) but try to avoid RX-V365 because it has HDMI in with video only, no audio. so unless you wish to do HD without any sound this is a budget buy. . |

I'm now left with a cheap Panasonic AVR of which I still don't have idea what to do with it yet and I yet to upgrade my cheap speaker that came with my Panasonic AVR. BTW, THX is not a sound format like DTS-HD/TrueHD. But THX, DTS-HD or TrueHD have similar purpose to deliver the audio signal exactly as the film studio intended. Have u test DTS-HD/TrueHD and compare with THX? I like to hear a result. |

Bro..BTW, THX is not a sound format like DTS-HD/TrueHD. But THX, DTS-HD or TrueHD have similar purpose to deliver the audio signal exactly as the film studio intended. Have u test DTS-HD/TrueHD and compare with THX? I like to hear a result. i know all about equipment that you mean...but i already tried by my self and read some review from mat saleh oversea they also tried and the result is very impressive.... Now i come to this HT forum try find somebody otai2 who ever try using normal equipment except AVR play2 with THX speaker setting... but until tody nobody try it ,i think.... last time my avr was pioneer with THX select 2 (2nd stage THX) only normal DTS/DD... during this time i feel that sound so powerfull if compare with DTS/DD alone. Now my new upgrade is DTS-HD/truHD combined with THX ultra 2 plus (6th stage THX) .... everybody know DTS-HD/truHD alone was so awesome, imagine it if you combined with THX ultra 2... bro.. no more test2 ... from first day i bought my new AVR , straightly using THX setting.... do not listen to who never try this even salesman in HT shop...because i already ask and they said you need this you need that...like you said.... i know this is not 100% pure THX... but if you can feel 50% of that...batter than nothing right... Added on February 20, 2010, 9:20 am QUOTE(ahmadpintu @ Feb 19 2010, 08:32 AM) bro...pioneer VSX1018 not THX certified....from my understanding , Malaysia only have LX-90,LX-82,LX-72,LX-52,vsx-ax4as,vsx-ax2as come with THX cer... last year during AV show they offer Vsx-ax2as for only RM2999 compare with normal price RM4600. Now if you go to HT shop they have only LX series...i think LX-52 maybe RM5K... or more.... This post has been edited by matyeo: Feb 20 2010, 09:20 AM |

THX is only a certification. You only pay extra for the certification. I great av component don't need that certification to sound great. Its more of a marketing gimmick.
Its like our potong car with the "Handling by Lotus" crap. Does it make the potong car better? This post has been edited by lightning69: Feb 20 2010, 12:58 PM |
