I haven't been to laos or myanmar but 8 days for 2 countries is do able. But you will spend more time on travelling from one place to another than actually travelling. Just stick to one country.

Quick question since want to book the cheap air tickets for the current airasia sale.

planning to fly in to yangon, and fly back from mandalay.

so... based on the dates i have chosen i have about 12 whole days of travelling (excluding flying out). would that give me enough time to cover, yangon, bagan, mandalay, inle, and hsipaw?

maybe i can stretch it to 14 whole days of travelling... maybe...

Good pictures and good trip. The most I can do is 2 weeks away from work. Yup, I can plan an okay itinerary. I was hoping to avoid backtracking, fly to and back from diff places, mandalay/yangon.

Hi, btw i saw your blog and you went in January. How's the crowd? I'm going in february and since i'm semi-backpacking, i'm not really planning to book things in advance but sources like lonely planet, selectiveasia is like asking us to plan in advance.

as i plan to cover a few places, my concern is on the transport from getting from one place to another, like bagan to inle.

i think i don't need to be too worried about travelling to and from mandalay/yangon.

Just checking cause Myanmar seems off compared to other indo china country. Long trips are those sleeper bus type, yes?

Plan my trip as below. I anticipate overnight buses from hsipaw to inle, inle to bagan, bagan to yangon.

any comments from those who has been there?

actually i came up with my itinerary because i notice can take a bus from hsipaw to inle, thanks to gaeria84 blog.

the rest is, i figured it on my own. i really want to go to hsipaw because of the train ride. want to experience something different.

Quick Q, i've been reading that larger denominations notes gives better rates (in reference to 50 and 100). is there a preference for either one or both is fine?

Although strictly speaking, it doesn't necessarily has to be USD. You can use euro and sgd too. But advisable to bring USD la. Because euro and sgd is only for exchanging to kyats at airports. ( I didn't pay attention if they actually exchange sgd and euros at banks)

Hmm, you were kinda unlucky in this. I received and used many 100, 200, 500 & 1000 notes which were in pretty poor condition, very soiled notes. But they were accepted by the locals when I bought food and etc. But I was careful about keeping newer looking notes when I exchanged at yangon airport, when I came back to Malaysia. Used up soiled notes first. Exchanged everything back to usd when I came back.
