So e8400 has 9 multi; with your current rams, you can get to 3.0Ghz WITHOUT overclocking your rams; which is also the default speed for e8400, so no overclocking involved here.

From what I have read, e8400 can get to 4GHz fairly easier compared to e7 series. I am using e7400, and I need around 1.45v for 4GHz - I dont like to run 4Ghz for 24/7 because of the huge bump in vcore.

I suggest you get the e8400 coupled with 1066 rams, then it will be easier to overclock the e8400 smile.gif

If you have doubts, keep your money, wait for a few months, upgrade to something that runs on DDR3. More future proof rather than spending money now. Just my thoughts.
