Theoretically, fine, just my opinion.

Ask others though.

But then, looks far enough...

Don't think it matters, but if you are really particular, you might wanna trace the family tree of yours and hers to see whether there was any blood relationship between your ancestors. genetically speaking, ppl are afraid that chances are his and her dna are not far off, so there is a danger of having kids that are not so 'well'.

Maybe you might want to go for DNA checks just for the peace of mind?

depends on the rarity of the surname, common ones like Tan, Chong, Chin, no need worry much

if different dialect group, then it is no a problem too

just make sure both guy and girls parents doesn't belong to the same hometown

it's taboo because there has to be a reason why you have the same last name == FAMILY somewhere down the line!

because if your parents/grandparents are old fashioned,

all chinese surnames come from the same ancestry/family

u shud go china and look up your ancestors. u will find that if your surname is WONG, u got 1 type of ancestry.

that's why they do not like it because it's like marrying your own family whilst chinese like to expand the surname

Doesn't really matter actually cause you can have totally two different bloodline with the same surname.

1. It is taboo in Chinese culture as same surnames are supposedly to originate from the same 'clan'
2. Would be great to have offspring as the child would carry the surname to both families
3. However how the elder generation thinks...this is a question that you'd have to consult them

let me tell you a story...is different surname...

my ex colleague went back to her hometown together with her bf back then. after both parents met, then is time for dinner with some close relatives.

during dinner, a big surprise. my ex colleague grandmother and her bf grandmother are biological sisters. so both of them panic. and by rank, the guy suppose to call my ex colleague aunty. after some consulatation, both of them can get married.

so sometimes different surname also, you would not know if you are related.

who knows, if same surname and you are really in love and then you found out that she is your step sister..even worst biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I'm not surprised since surname follows the father,a person might be related to the partner's mother's side although having different surnames.

TS should be more concern on whether they are related or not rather than whether the surname is the same.

out of curiosity, can a simple blood test to prove DNA is match..maybe is 5% matches... i dunno..

but is kinda hard to check it out if both of them are related, unless on the wedding day when all relatives are there, then only know lorr...

there is a slight possibilty that your children in the future will not be so 'well'

depends on how far you two family's blood relation, if it's far then the chance of getting above will be lower and vice versa

It doesn't matter if both of you love each other. We could hardly get a chance to be together with the person you love the most. So appreciate the relationship you had now. =)

lol because people these days think with their penises and not their brains.
OBVIOUSLY there's a reason why the practice is in place!

Nope, chinese surname come from the same country, not family. So it does not necessarily means that if you marry the same girl/guy from the same surname, you'll be marrying your family.

If she is not your close relative it should be OK (genetically) BUT please check with your parents (and hers too). Cause end of the day .. giving a reason - I asked those ppl in LYN liao they say no problem will not make a good argument
