Wake up early and go to KLIA with Sis. Driver send. 2 check in bags, 2 hand carry bags. Reach airport around 8am and check in using Sis’ Silver Enrich. MAS economy new check-in weight now 30kg, 35kg for Silver Enrich. Went to Café Barbera, Sis bought a cup of coffee and egg sandwich. Went to money changer to change some Ringgit to Yen. Sis bought air pillow to use inflight. Went in and boarded first using Enrich. Window seat and aisle seat next to each other. 10.50am plane takes off. Nice flight. Can ask for anything from MAS. Tired so nap a bit instead of watching movie. Towards the end of flight before landing, someone called out to me, noticed Setsuna and his Dad. Also last minute booking. They are staying at Hilton Shinjuku for a few days. Flight attendant told me to be seated. Will communicate by WhatsApp. Landing 6.30pm Tokyo Narita on time, already dark. Step out of plane, very cold. Rushing so we wouldn’t miss the Narita Express train to Shibuya. Immigration was quick. Check in baggage came out quick and no problems with customs. Arrival Hall Terminal 2. Made our way to JR ticketing office, there was a line. The office lady came out to ask people in line what they needed. She pointed us to another counter with no lines for Narita Express tickets. Bought 2 NEX No.50 tickets 3310yen each (6620yen total) for 7.49pm with reserved seats. Bought for Sis Suica card for easy train travel 2000yen from machine (1500yen credit, 500yen as deposit). Reload 5000yen each on both cards. Still plenty of time. Sis bought 120yen hot tea from vending machine. Boarded NEX train, no room at big bags area (train started from terminal 1), but seats were big enough to put bags in front of us. Sis ate sandwich from airplane and snacks. 80mins train ride. Arrive Shibuya station 9.10pm. Contact Tanaka, to meet up at East Exit. Big station with multiple exits. Met Tanaka in front of Bic Camera / Taito Game. Took van to Malay Asian Cuisine Restaurant. End of year party already started a few hours ago. Met Steven, Cheah, Mushki, Lim, Choo, Naruko san, Johnny, etc. Meet, greet, makan. Place looks very exclusive. Very nice food. Steven sent us to hotel. Very close but a bit hard to find by van because have to make U turn and circle back. Arrive Tokyu Stay Shibuya apartment hotel. No problem check in with voucher from booking.com. Sis paid with CC 8 nights, 2 rooms 166,064yen. Breakfast voucher included for everyday (6.30am-9.30am). Nice rooms 20sqm with washing machine, microwave, TV (all Japanese channels + CNN), electric stove top, mini fridge, electric kettle, requested air filter/humidifier, bath slippers, night gown, towels, toiletries, ample cupboard space and balcony. 7 nights or longer stays will only get room cleaning and bed sheet change once. 6 nights and less gets cleaning everyday but no change of bed sheets. Took photos and video in rooms. No bottled water provided, too lazy to boil water so walked outside of hotel 50 meter and bought 120yen isotonic bottle drink from vending machine. Shower, tried free open wifi in room (didn’t bother with wired), sleep around 1.30am.

Breakfast with Sis 8.30pm. Leave hotel 10.30am walk to Shibuya Station. Used another route closer to main road. Autumn leaves still on trees. Pass by puffer fish restaurant with aquarium outside. Took a 1 hour train ride to Kita Kamakura. Arrive 11.45am. More people around than last year, probably because it’s a Sunday. Took photos around station. Walk through the small town uphill towards the trek. Pass by old Japanese houses, a small paddy field with orange loaded tree, Bamboo grove. Bright sun out, getting hot. We walk through the exact same route as last year, identifying a lot of spots and items along the way like vending machine area, phone booth etc. Still going uphill and pass by houses. Saw an area where we took group photo last year, but this year Mount Fuji was clearly in sight. Took more photos. Lots of steps. Nice and quite walk. Autumn trees, old houses before reaching actual mountain dirt trail. There seems to be better signage this time and the trail looks better maintained. No danger of getting lost this time also because still remember the trek from last year. Signs show distance to Kotoku-in Temple (Daibutsu) all the way. Made our way slowly as not to make the same mistake as last year’s sore legs and knees hurting, which lasted for several days. Successful trek reaching road leading up to Daibutsu 1.45pm. Bought canned coffee from same vending machine as last year 120yen. Paid 400yen for 2 people to enter shrine 1.55pm. Sunday crowd. Took photos of Giant Bronze Buddha. Asked a couple to take photo for us, and we took photo for them. Didn’t go into the big statue because of long line. Bought green tea ice cream cone from souvenir shop 250yen. Exit and walk along the street towards Hase station (500m walk). Shops selling lots of food like kebabs, soft cream, rice crackers, dorayaki, etc. Stopped by Kamakura Kebab, same shop we went to last year, this time took photo with the owner. 2 chicken kebabs for 500yen each and a 100yen bottle of water. Bought vending machine canned coffee 120yen. Another store close to Hase station making fresh dorayaki, bought 2 for 340yen. Bought 5 leg warmers from a store in Hase station for 525yen (same store as last year, bought 1). Took 3.50pm train from Hase station to Enoshima station. Packed with standing room only 18mins ride with nice view of the sea and Enoshima. Reach station, took photo of the Enoshima Electric Railway train we just used. Sat down relax a bit and took photo of a scale train model of the area surrounding station area, complete with working train models. Walk towards Enoshima. Leg starting to feel sore, so slow down. Also getting dark so just made way to the walkway towards Enoshima. Just enough time to take photos with Mt Fuji and surrounding areas. Dark by the time we walk back to Enoshima Station. 5.05pm take train to Kamakura Station and change JR line to Shibuya station. Got on the wrong train so got off of next station to wait for the right one. Reached Shibuya station and walked 500m to Malay Asian Cuisine restaurant. Reached there by 7.40pm and had dinner for 6000yen. Tried different dishes this time. Again good tasting meals. Didn’t stay too long this time. Left around 9.40pm. Took night life photos of Shibuya along the way back to hotel. Stopped by MaruetsuPetit mart Sis bought Golden Delicous Apple 128yen. 10.30pm reach hotel.

Tired from previous day’s hike so rest whole morning in hotel. 12.15pm leave hotel. And stopped by a small specialty store selling nuts and rice crackers. Bought 1690yen worth. Sis carried them back to hotel while I wait at a close by Family mart. Walk towards Shibuya station. Took video of Shibuya crossing, statues, Hachiko statue & mural. Took train to Harajuku station, 1 stop north from Shibuya. Very crowded. Walked towards Takeshita dori and took photos at the gate. Even more people here, hard to get a nice shot. Entered the street, saw Daiso 100 Yen store and walked in 1.20pm. One of the largest 100 Yen store in Tokyo with 4 floors. More selection than in Malaysia. Everything from clothing accessories, stationeries, tablewares, food, decoration, toys, gardening items, electronic accessories, etc. Spent 3 hours just inside this crowded store. Total 60 items between us for 6300yen (tax included). Almost dark, street still crowded, walked along the street and saw lots of fashion stores as well as restaurant. Stopped by a café to eat and rest legs. Ordered avocado sandwich and drink 1060yen to share. Continue walking, end Takeshita Dori on the other side of the street, nice night lights lit up. Walk towards Harajuku station from other side. Saw a shop selling tableware, and offering classes to teach how to paint/decorate plates/bowls. Took train back to Shibuya and back at hotel by 6.20pm. Rest and snack on stuff bought. Still early so we go back out to Akihabara 9pm. Unfortunately a lot of stores are already closed, but the arcades and UFO crane games are still open. Walked around and tried UFO crane games. Managed to get 3 small Kami Usagi Rope (Paper Rabbit Rope) plush toy, and 2 Snow Miku for total 4000yen. Leave Akihabara around 11.10pm. Reach hotel around 12.15am.

New years eve and last day of Comiket. Leave hotel 10.40am to go Odaiba area. Arrive at Tokyo Teleport station 11.35am. Took some photos with Ferris wheel and Fuji TV building. New pedestrian bridge at crossing that was not here last year. Entered Diver City. Hello Kitty store selling cute small figure cakes. Bought 10 pieces for 400yen. Walked towards other side of mall and exit where giant Gundam stands. Took lots of photos. Asked a couple to take a photo for us, then we took one for them. Went back in to to find coffee for Sis. Relax in Hawaiian style café. Nutty Hawaiian latte 480yen. Walked a bit inside mall, went to Round 1 arcade for crane game special promo 100yen per play all machines. Tried 400yen fail. Left Sis to do shopping about 1pm, while I go to Comiket at Big Sight, Kokusai-Tenjijo station, 1 train stop away from Tokyo Teleport station. Comiket as crowded as ever. Walked through all the east and west halls as well as the big publishers area on 2nd floor, passing by cosplay area. Got some free pin badges being distributed. This year is big on Kantai Collection related stuff. Left Big Sight around 3pm. Saw im@s stuff by the Kokusai-Tenjijo station, and saw Setsuna with backpack and bags in both hands. Guy was here since 5am. Chat a bit, went into the station and parted ways at Tokyo Teleport station. Met up with Sis again at Diver City around 3.15pm. She was shopping at H&M and bought some stuff. Decided to go try UFO crane game again. Tried several machines and finally got 2 large Rilakkuma plushies. Total spent 3900yen. Hungry so went to look for sushi restaurant. Went in Premium Sushi Train restaurant. Very nice sushi served on plates of different colors and different prices. Custom orders can be done using iPad and sent using another track above it with a Shinkansen style train sending orders to tables. Total 1573yen for 10 plates. Walk out of Diver City. Already dark and trees outside are lighted up, took photos. Walk towards Decks Tokyo Beach building, where Sega Joypolis indoor theme park is located. Couldn’t see where the mini statue of liberty is but took night photo with Rainbow bridge in background, with some effort because it was dark. Went inside Decks and saw some interesting shopping areas done up to look like outdoor stalls. One area looks like a train station entrance, another looks like a Japanese house in the country side. Bought 100yen bottled water. Found Odaiba Takoyaki Museum. Really done up like festival style decorations. Got a coin souvenir from a coin press machine for 100yen. Sis tried the fun photo booth for 200yen with 4 pic superimposed on other people. Left Decks Tokyo Beach building 6.45pm and saw Fuji TV building light animation on building itself. Took some photos/vids. Also took some photos of light animated ferris wheel. 7.15pm boarded train from Tokyo Teleport to Shibuya and walked back to hotel. 8.10pm arrive hotel.

New years day. Going to meet up with Setsuna in Akihabara at 11am to go to Kanda Myojin Shrine (World’s geekiest temple, so says CNN). Decided to go Meiji Jingu Shrine first with Sis early to beat the crowd. Left hotel 8.30am to go to Harajuku station, next to Meiji Jingu entrance. Reach there by 9am. Too late, crowd is already at the station and around the area. Barrels of sake wrapped in straw piled up high along the path as offerings, along with lanterns and other stuff. There’s a waiting line to enter temple, and polis crowd control. Follow crowd and threw 10yen each. Took photos. People buying charms and stuff, drawing fortune papers, which they tie up along the paths, and wrote wishes on wooden plaques then hug on specified places. Went to look for the food stalls area. Went to wrong place but finally found it. Lots of food and lots of people. All kinds of food. We shared 200yen donut, 500yen small squids with the eggs inside, 500yen takoyaki, 150yen canned coffee, and 350yen long yokohama donut. We weren’t supposed to eat too much because going to Kanda Myojin Shrine afterwards. But still filled up. Left for Akihabara 10.20am from Harajuku station. Arrived at Akihabara station right at 11.00am, and meeting spot in right next to it. Met up with Setsuna and his dad Randy, and Terry who is staying in Japan. We walked to Kanda Myojin Shrine where there is already a crowd. The street leading up to the entrance has food stalls on both sides, similar setup every year. We headed for the wooden plaque area where there are nice drawings of anime characters by people making wishes. Kancolle here too. Headed out and bought a red Daruma doll 1000yen, 500yen custom okonomiyaki. Polis are already manning the entrance of the shrine for crowd control by the time we left at 11.50am. Sets and Terry went shopping in Akihabara to get stuff they missed at Comiket. Uncle Randy, Sis and me decided to go to Ueno to visit Ameyoko and the park. Meeting back again in front of Sega building around 2.30pm-3pm. Short train ride to Ueno, and walked towards Ameyoko street shops. Lots of people also shopping for food stuffs and American goods (or American style clothings). Got hustled into buying 12 persimmons for 1000yen, for my lack of Japanese language skills. 600yen I Love Japan T-shirt (other places sold them for 1k-2k yen). Bought 2 cream puffs for 300yen from Beard Papa. Walk towards Ueno park. Took photos at Tomb of Shogi-Tai Soldiers and the bronze samurai statue. Visit Kiyomizu Kannon-Do Shrine. Fewer people here than Meiji Jingu and Kanda Myojin. Some people line up to shake the thick rope to sound the bell and offer prayers. Beautiful temple. Head down towards Benten-do temple in the middle of the Shinobazu lake. Bought 120yen bottle of grape juice from vending machine. Washed one of the persimmons to eat on the go. We walked through the middle and around the lake. There are ducks and large koi fishes in the lake, and people are on paddle boats. The Japanese water lilies are already wilted during winter time. We can see Tokyo Skytree from here. Walked back through the middle of the lake and headed towards Hanazononari Shrine south entrance. Also not too many people at this temple. Saw someone burning something in the middle of a pit with some people offering prayers, and the usual fortune papers tied on strings and also wooden plaques. The eastern entrance was lined with several red tori gate. Messaged Sets to meet up 3.30pm. We continued on the peaceful walk past the Toki no Kane (Bells of Time) towards the Ueno Toshogu Shrine where stone lanterns are lined up on both sides of the path leading up to the temple. The doors were colored gold with their saisen (coin offering box) placed in front of it. We walked back out of the temple and just outside of it was a small store selling snacks and toy masks. Uncle Randy bought soft ice cream bars for us. Ice cream in winter somehow tastes nicer. On our way out of Ueno park we saw a Starbucks and another café in front of each other. 3.10pm back to the Ueno Train station to meet up with Sets and Terry in Akihabara. Still early, Sis went to buy coffee while we wait in front of Yodobashi Akiba. Met back up with Sets and Terry. They are headed back to their hotel close to Roppongi area. Sis and me stayed back a bit but then decided to head back to hotel too 3.50pm. Bought 120yen canned coffee. On the way back took photo with Colonel Sanders statue in front of KFC. Arrived hotel at 5.15pm. Rest and passed some laundry if Sis using washing machine later. We went out again 7.45pm for dinner. Not too hungry so went to Tokyu Food Show area in Shibuya station, but was closed. So we went to a nearby McDonalds share an Ebi Burger 370yen. Ate while walking around another part of Shibuya. Split up, me going to Akihabara again, Sis went into Starbucks to try pretzel mocha, then went to Uniqlo. Spent 3 hours in Akihabara, mostly people watching and trying out various UFO crane machines. Got 1 Snow Miku plushie (different design), 2 small Line Town plushies, and 1 unknown small plushie (machine I wanted to get a Snow Miku plushie holding a snowman has very weak arms, so asked the staff to transfer credit to the machine next to it). Total 2300yen spent (actual amount on 4 items 700yen, rest fails). 11.30pm leave Akihabara and arrive back in hotel at 12.20am.

11.15am went out of hotel to take train from Shibuya station to Asakusa station, headed for Sensoji temple. Arrive at Asakusa station 12.10pm and walked to exit, biggest crowd yet. Street were closed and people weren’t allowed to get too close to the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), the entrance of the temple. Police were manning the entrance and assisting crowds to walk towards the temple in batches. The road leading up to the temple, Asakusa Nakamise shopping street was cordoned off for this. So we took the side roads to get to the food stalls. Lots of shops, lots of people selling all sorts of stuff like food, souvenirs, samurai swords (looks real enough), clothes, etc. The whole area around the temple is full of small shops, restaurant in old looking buildings, shops selling shoes, bags, pharmacies, tablewares, 2nd hand kimonos etc. Took lots of pictures. Because of the middle street being cordoned off, we had to make several turns and backtracking. We somehow managed to be left inside the middle of the road during one of the controlled pedestrian crossings. Had a little look around the shops in the middle, hard to move around because of so many people. Bought 1 soy sauce & 1 red bean Dango 300yen, Taiyaki 150yen, vending machine canned tea 100yen, sugared ginger snack 1000yen, 1890yen umeboshi, 120yen senbe rice cracker, and a custard filled taiyaki-like cake 170yen. Left Asakusa to go to Shinjuku 3pm. Tokyo Metro Ginza line ends at Shibuya, got off 3.35pm. Recharged my Suica card 3000yen, and Sis’ Suica card 2000yen. Sis bought no sugar hot Soy drink from Mr Bean Soya Bean again 150yen. Walked to Tokyu Food Show underground to have a look and maybe buy something. Sis didn’t want anything sweet, so got packed baked fish 1022yen by weight. I ate a bit but didn’t finish because hard to eat with no place to sit. Took JR train to Shinjuku. Arrive 4.15pm walked around, went into Isetan. Everything is expensive. Walked outside, lots of shops with new years sale going on. Found a small no-frills sushi train restaurant around 4.45pm. Went in, sat down and started taking plates off the train belt. Sushi in Japan seems to taste good anywhere. Stopped before too full, came to 840yen for 6 plates. Continued walking outside and found an arcade with UFO crane, went inside to have a look. 500yen fail on large rilakkuma plushie, 100yen on Ted plushie. Found a machine with Snow Miku plushie holding snowman. 1500yen to get it and complete the 4 Snow Miku plushie designs. Left 4 tries in the machine, asked staff to transfer to another machine. Missed the targets but got an unintended small Line Town plushie instead. Headed back to Shinjuku station where there’s a shopping mall attached to it. Cafes and restaurants on the 7th and 8th floors. Took elevator and surveyed shops. 6.30pm decided on a café that serves Japanese cheesecake set with drink. Ordered the cake and latte to share, and complementary cold water. Sis went back to Hotel 7.10pm. I went to Akihabara hoping to look for Eva Racing McLaren MP4-12 plastic model, arriving at 7.35pm. Only managed to check out 1 big shop, rest already closed by the time reach, and staff wouldn’t let me browse (most close 8pm). Went stalking UFO crane machines instead. Saw a machine with 5 large Kantai Collection pin badges in a pack, someone was trying to get it. Looks hard it took him a while but he got it, left 4 tries but he left it, so I took over. Spent 3500yen on it. A bit much but other machines offer single designs, making it hard to complete the set. Walk around some more, saw a machine with a partially worked on by someone else. Asked a staff to swap out the biscuits in a tin can for a Kancolle Shimakaze character pillow. Never tried this rubber ball type of machine before, hard to get. Staff offered to move it forward to make it easier. Got the item. Spent 1600yen for it (Next day check 2000yen selling at Mandarake, Snow Miku plushies 1500yen). 315yen misc stuff. 10.20pm leave Akihabara, arrive hotel 11.15pm.

Leave hotel 10.30pm to go to Ueno. At Shibuya station bought 2 Narita Express tickets for tomorrow morning 6620yen for 2 people. Train to Ueno and bought I love Japan T-Shirt from the same guy 600yen (Other places +-1000yen, airport 1500yen). Walked around see shops missed before. Sis bought roasted chestnut 500yen. Unopened yet so can’t snack on. Back inside Ueno station, Sis bought melon pan and mame pan 294yen from Anderson bakery. Head for Akiba, arriving at 12.10pm at Suehiro station, closer to the northern most shops. 120yen milk tea from vending machine. Checked out Mandarake, Yodobashi Akiba, among other bigger stores. At 1.25pm took train back to Shibuya to meet up with Tanaka. Sis walk around the malls inside and near Shibuya station. Tanaka drove me to Makuhari area to see the new big Aeon mall. Unfortunately there was a long line of cars trying to get into the parking area. Someone holding a sign, 1 hour wait. Circled around the back but all long lines. Decided to head back to MAC restaurant instead. Traffic jam with cars from outside of Tokyo. Met with Cheah, Mushki, Lim and Choo. Had a look around their prep for next day’s opening. Chat a bit and said goodbyes. Tanaka sent me back to hotel, arriving 5.45pm. Started packing. Lepak Sis’ room watching TV new years shows. Went to reception to settle bills, forgot already settled. Asked for taxi next morning to come by 6.30am. Finished packing. Sleep.

Check out of hotel and leave by taxi at 6.30am to Shibuya station, no time to use coupon for breakfast. 2 hand carry bags, 2 check in bags, 1 box for check in, and 1 big sealed plastic bag full of UFO crane game plush toys for check in. Short trip but easier since we have luggage, 1110yen. Saw Sets and his Dad at the station, they’re taking the next train after us. Boarded 6.57am Narita Express train to Narita Terminal 2. Reached there by 8.15am. Check in using Sis’ Silver enrich, cutting the long line. Gate opens at 10am, closes at 10.20am, plane flies at 10.30am. We had break at a sushi restaurant 8.40am. Ordered only sushi and paid 1350yen in excess coins. Walked around to see anything to buy. Went into immigration to see more shops inside. Bought a box of small cakes 1000yen and a box of green tea mocha with custard filling 700yen. Walked towards the aerotrain area, it’s no longer there. Have to walk on walkalators to the satellite gates. More shops, went into a café for Sis to buy cup of Latte 460yen. Already 10.10am so walked to gate to board plane. Inflight meals include peanuts, and any drinks whenever we want any. They were out of the beef meal, but was going to order the chicken curry anyway, with side dish of soba noodles, berry jelly pudding, bread bun and stuff. Nice meals. Didn’t see where Sets and his dad were seated. Managed to watch 3 movies. End of flight snack was either egg sandwich or tuna mayo onigiri. Raining when we landed 5.20pm. Was quick through immigration but waited a long time for baggage claim on the carousel. Sets and his Dad got theirs first and we said our goodbyes. Got our check in stuff then went home.
1110yen taxi from hotel to Shibuya station
1350yen sushi breakfast at airport restaurant
1000yen box of small cakes
700yen box of green tea mocha with custard filling
460yen cup of Latte from cafe
4620yen day total
103665yen to date total
Money spent at RM3.30 conversion rate (rate yen was exchanged at before trip) for 2 people:
103665yen = RM3420.94
+ RM5028 Airplane return ticket for 2 people (MAS economy, last minute normal rate booking)
+ RM5480.11 (166064yen) Accommodation for 8 nights, 2 rooms at Tokyu Stay Shibuya
Total money spent for an 8 nights, non-budget trip to Japan (not including items purchased before going to Japan) for 2 people: = RM13929.05
Total money spent on Food & Drinks (not including free hotel breakfast and snacks for souvenirs): = 29294yen = RM966.70
Total money spent on Trains/travel (left 1500yen+ on both cards): = 31350yen = RM1034.55
Total money spent on UFO crane games: = 17800yen =RM587.40
I been to Tokyo on year 2012, 8D7N here is roughly my spend:
Air ticket = RM1280 including luggage / 2 person = RM640/person
I stay in asakusa area, twin bed room
Stay 7 night = RM1772.85 / 2 person = RM890/person
From airport, i take N'EX TOKYO Direct Ticket to my asakusa: http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/nex_oneway.html
1500 yen x 0.04 (that time japan rate was high) = RM60
and for the following day i use back the same ticket to access the JR line as it valid for 1 day
for the next 3 day, i take kanto area pass, and make 1 day trip to outskirt area: http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/kantoareapass/index.html
1st day: kamakura + yokohama
2nd day: nikko
3th day: kawaguchiko (mount fuji)
Total: 8000 yen x 0.04 = RM320
after the follow 3 day i brought 1 day metro pass: http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/value/1...ndex.html#anc01
710yen x 3 x 0.04 = RM85.2
So i spend RM2000 on transport and accommodation
and i spend RM2800 on food, entrance ticket, souvenir etc (well, i have so money left so better spend it then convert back to ringgit)
total 4800 on my trip with the rate 1000 yen = RM40
if now 1000 yen = RM33 i think within RM4000 enough already
