Hi forumers...

I have problem here that getting annoying me since yesterday...

When i connected My Western Digital Passport Essential 160GB to USB port on my laptop, the device has been detected and it appears in the Device Manager. But the drive doesn't show up in the My Computer. Since i've bought the device about 1 year ago (i think), this is the first time it happened to me. Warranty expiry date is 25/5/2011 (already checked on Western Digital website). How can I solve this issue ? sad.gif

Anyone can help me ? icon_question.gif

i had the same problem with my 1Tb MyBook,i tried everything i could to get back my data,,i even call WD at Singapore to help me out..but noo luck.

The solution u have is..

1)Go to Glemarie, company called SIS...get a new one since u still have your warranty BUT sad to say your data are gone for good.

OR

2) Sent to ??? company..they will get your data back but...prepare huge sum of money.

(that ??? company name i cant remember...call WD hotline in SG..they will tell u which company...n that company in MY...i think around Ikea...if im not mistaken)

Is there any solution rather than losing all my data inside the device ? sad.gif

The controller board for the drive seems to be ok. But i think the drive is starting to fail. In this case, there is nothing much you could do but get a new drive. Suggesting data recovery could be out of reach to you because it occurs a lot of cost.

An earlier suggestion by another forummer to crack the case and link it up to another case seems to be a good idea. But before that, i would try and source a new USB cable first. Get the ones with 2 USB connectors for extra power from another USB port.

Else u gotta live with lost data then. Good luck.

already got new drive from seagate...

already tried the method that u mention above but also fail...

really sad cannot recover lots of photo inside there... cry.gif
