yup...OD = Overdrive can let u increase some power when u needed for overtaking and go uphill...
it should be click the OD button,  and OD light off at the meter..
*
It isn't. OD off just disable the top gear, resulting in gear down shift, easier to over take. It won't help if you are not cruising at top gear.

Emm not sure if OD off will help in reducing fuel consumption at the speed of 80km/h to 100km/h.

The N16 fuel consumption is not that attractive, and the suspension is soft, comfortable for highway cruising. You better test drive it 1st and see if you heard kluk kluk noise from the brake when going over uneven road (noise gone when pressing a bit of brake).

Depends on what thing to repair...

If something related to engine management, better go to nissan service center as they have specialized equipments to diagnose the problem/sensors. Some workshops has it, but might not understand the code... I got my car tow few times (and finally sattle in nissan service center) due to faulty piston/crankshaft (can't remember the exact thing)positioning sersor. Luckily cover by insurance free tow service.

Anyway, the quality of the service center might be different from one to another... Any good recommandation?

Brake, oil, suspensions, alignment, i think normal good workshop should be good enough...

Added on August 9, 2012, 10:26 amI'm very happy that i manage to solve the problem of the brake calliper rattling noise (n16) that has been haunting my car so long. I asked my mechanic to apply silicon (gasket grade) to make the hole smaller, to close up the gap between the calliper and pin, then the noise is gone. Read this method from internet. Anyway, the mechanic says the calliper might be trapped and unable to retract... anyway, 1st day try out no issue, hopefully the mechanic is smart enough to reserve enough freeplay room.

Currently changing suspension to nismo-s-tune. Hopefully it will not be too lowered until scratching the hump.

My n16 is clocking > 250k km, though not very fuel efficient car to run with, holding it for sentimental value. Future tweak might be the un-chip (to be more fuel efficient). Hopefully it can serve me till 500k km...

Time for absorber change for my n16... this nismo set lasts around 2y only, bit disappointing. Hit some uneven surface hard with full load, maybe that's the reason.

I actually like the leaking absorber comfort now, compare to when it is stone hard new. I'm wondering what absorber can pair with the existing nismo spring, as I may get stock or slight harder than stock absorbers. icon_question.gif Lost the ori spring as it snapped when ran over obstacle...

Just sharing some information about my n16 2001.
Recently experienced engine stalled, followed by engine furious vibration when cranking. The garage A changed the crankshaft positioning sensor (which i have already replaced few years back) but engine vibrate irregularly during idle. Garage B change my fuel pump (which solves aircond compressor fuel compensation problem), engine still vibrate irregularly.

After extensive googling and analyzing, suspecting is the timing chain tensioner wear out, causing cam timing misaligned, hence irregular vibration during idle. N16's QG16DE timing chain is advised to service at mileage 300k km (which I forgot + didn't keep track), and i think it is good to have it service before problem shows up.

Those half-past-six mechanics are really useless, will f**k the mechanic when i send my car to service the timing chain... maybe in such a way, i'm get to gain more experience/knowledge about car doh.gif

hi,

if u staying near to Banting Selangor, I will recommend you go to Kim Ban Huat Auto Company, bcoz they have well trained foreman and also they are one of the Nissan authorised service center and price is very reasonable too.
Now all my service is done at there, 2 year ago done top overhaul less than RM 1000, change auto gearbox RM 1400.

Their boss is very knowledgeable in automotive, when other workshop cant fix my radiator water level decreasing (quite abnormal, some time will not leak, some time all water gone), their boss just open the radiator cap and see the water bubble coming up at the radiator cap outlet, he already know what is the cause and told me the gasket already burnt, need to do top overhaul.

It is good to find a workshop that is trustworthy, reliable and reasonable pricing.

No worry, just change the gear box will do, i just change my one when the gear slip happened around 200,000 km. The cost for the recond gear box is about RM1k plus and about most is 2-3 days in the workshop. Sentra spare part is plenty and affordable, selling the car won't fetch you much as Nissan resale value is not really that good.

i overhauled my transmission as some record gearbox with unknown history may give more headaches in future.

HI All, I am driving Nissan Sentra n16 2001, my brake caliper keep gok gok gok sound when pass at uneven road,  I am thinking to change/ upgrade it.
have anyone try to upgrade the n16 brake caliper and disc? Have any other model of caliper are suitable for upgrade plug and play? Thanks~

As for the brake caliper noise, it can be solved by brake caliper pins with rubber bush.

There isn’t very good workshop in my area for troubleshooting (e.g. servicing valve body), so try flushing atf else overhauling to solve transmission issue...
