Dear Kawan2,

To those mechanic and d.i.yers...

Abt a week ago my car overheated for about 2-3 minutes before i shut the engine off. the temp needle went to about 3/4 mark. replaced the radiator top cover and found out that the thermostat was defective. Unfortunately, the mechanic i went to didn't have a stock and was made to understand that removing the thermostat was a mechanic usual practice.

Since then, i found out that while driving on the highway, the temp gauge came down showing that the engine was not operating at normal temp. and the worst part, whenever it drops, performance suffers and petrol consumption was higher. way higher then before.

Anyway, done quite a lot of reading on the net and realised that the thermostat is a vital part of the car cooling/heating system. decided to buy a new one and replace DIY. cost me RM35 per piece. Unfortunately, i didn't look when the mechanic dismantled the old thermostat. basically, i got the general idea of where it is but would like to confirm with you guys. i attached a picture of my engine bay. please confirm whether A or B is the actual location.

Anyone done this before? is it too difficult? i quite a handyman so if the work doesn't require an automotive degree, should be o.k.

Thanks in advance and do leave comments/advise or suggestion.

well im using fully for 1 yrs d cos i ovehaul my engine last year.
dun simply swap ler is because mineral oil wont clean the dirts inside ur engine, fully does the cleaning.
but sometime, when engine is using mineral for long time, it oredi used to the dirts, suddenly no dirts inside it, it will move not so smooth as before. as fully cleans the dirt inside thr. juz like a smoker, u ask him to quit smoke he get sick lo.. the plug get wet is not the oil problem. its the plug seal 'kong' oredi so will wet lo the plug. actually, no matter wat oil u are using, the best is change oil for every 5000km no matter is fully or semi or mineral
better change the plug seal few yrs one time as it is very cheap item oni while our plug is expensive if ur using iridium plug..

any mineral omost same lah.. but u can try on total oil. formerly known as elf. france geh ler... additive got many types. some additive is for making ur oil more pekat. tat is for the car that eat minyak hitam to use. but i nvr add additive into lah cos better dun use so many thing inside. fully oil hv cleaning function too.. long term using mineral ler, the engine piston, valve sure got the dirt inside, but when engine is running ok on that would be no problem, but once u use fully, fully will cleans it up and when losing the dirts, ur piston valve all will be not so smooth as they ngam ngam nid the few mm width of the dirts to make it more smooth. semi oil still ok cos i dont clean so much. got heard ppl say use 10-30 oil more good.. but since im using fully so didnt give a try on it. but if ur fren plan to change to semi, mayb can give a try on 10-30 see the different,
for ur all info, honda oil- filled by eneos (last time is idemitsu)
toyota oil- filled by pennzoil (the normal plastice bottle local made for local toyota) if in tins, tat one is fully import from japan more good.
76 lubs- this is one of US famous oil but not so hot in msia
ultraman & sumo- better dun use, u will pui chui nua, cos i used it before.
castrol - a very normal oil with lots of advertistment recently
shell - can count as quite good one d
the one tat i love most, eneos oil.. can tell u sure no regret use it.
