All about OS...
HOW-TO Revive a Dead Blackberry

All this presumes your Blackberry is already dead, and no amount of hair or battery pulling will get it to restart again.

PRELIMINARY
1. Take the battery out of your Blackberry.
2. Ensure you have the latest BDM properly installed.
3. Install the OS version you want your revived Blackberry to have. Once you’ve completed the procedure, you will essentially have a factory-fresh Bold so at this step, you can choose which OS you want to have in your factory-fresh Blackberry. You can choose to revert to a previous OS for example, but why would you do that?
4. And most important, use a Windows PC.

METHOD
1. Start loader.exe. You can find it at Program Files > Common Files >Research In Motion > AppLoader.
2. Connect your phone to the PC via USB.
3. When you see the loader wizard say USB-PIN: Unknown, quickly press Next. It’s important you don’t dally at this point, because if you don’t press Next as soon as you see that phrase in the info box, you’ll have to start the process all over again. Unplug from the USB, quit loader.exe, restart loader.exe, etc etc)
4. Gently insert your battery back into your phone, making sure you don’t lose the USB connection.
5. Check off all the options you want to install, then wait for the process to complete on its own. It’ll take a very long time, but the screen will keep updating on the steps as they’re finished.

And you’ll need your data backups, if any, as you’ll have to re-setup your phone from scratch.
