Not 100% necessary.. You can update when you are free...

If you dont update it there wont be bad consequences it just you are on old OS and maybe a bit slow only...

any mac user here? is it the same method as i wanna upgrade my 9700 to OS6. thanks

Is better to use Windows for update..

Mac is not recommended...

QUOTE(mavric @ Jun 7 2011, 08:40 AM)
hi dickson,

i am on OS5 on my 9700 now. may i know if 9700 can be upgraded to Bundle 2534(v.6.0.0.570, Platform 6.6.0.212).

i see this as the 'recommended' update in my DM but it will not allow me to download it. if 9700 can support bundle 2534, where else can i download it? thanks.
*
Yes you can. Just follow the instruction and guide on how to download and install it..

Your DM dont allowed to download because your set are not original and it is an AP Set...

Upgrading Procedure for an Official OS release is as follows:

1. Download the OS and install it on your PC. (Make sure you have already removed any older OSes you have installed on your PC by going to Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel)

2. Delete the vendor.xml file (located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader)

3. Backup your 3rd party applications ( optional recommended step )

4. Connect your BlackBerry to your PC and right click on a file named Loader (located in the same place where you found the vendor.xml > C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Loader.exe) and select '' Run As Administrator ''

5. Follow the prompts and make sure you select the languages and applications you wish to be installed.
The Loader will backup and restore your data by default.

Still Having Issues !!?
I would recommend using BBSAK to Upgrade, so

- Uninstall the OS(s) you already have installed on your PC
- Delete the folder (research in motion) in ( c: \program files\common files\research in motion )
- Restart your PC

Your rom is dead and bricked. So you need to load your OS without the battery.

There is a guide on my forum on how to boot a dead BlackBerry...

Correct me if this is wrong blush.gif

I got an error when it reconnecting to JVM, says " Application loader was unable to connect to your device, pls reconnect..." I didnt plug in the battery.

Try uninstall your Desktop Manager and download the latest one. I suspect the old driver prob which make you cant connect...

Try it out and let me know successful or not?
