What cooked ROMs do you all use? and which is the best in your opinion?
*
Duttys are a good start. He now maintains two series of ROM:

1. Duttys M-Lang v2.6 (based on WM6.5 or COM2 branch) - This is the multi-language ROMs and very close to stock (v1.72). If you need English choose WWE type and you can always install chinese fonts to display. Radio ROM included.

2. Duttys M-Lang v1.2 (based on WM6.5.x or COM5 branch ) - This is the multi-language ROM similar to the first one but based on 6.5.x. Take note that 6.5.x is the touch friendly version of WM and is still in beta stage. But Duttys ROMs have always been stable. Radio ROM included.

3. Duttys HG-series v1.7 (2 versions, WM6.5 COM2 and WM6.5.x COM5) - This is the special series based on TMOUS (2.10) and with 576MB RAM enabled. Radio ROM included and only 51 series usable and from 2.08 onwards. This series include the call quality fix that has been bugging 576MB ROMs. I have not tested it yet but Duttys has reported a remarkable improvement in call quality.

You can find all these ROMs in HTCpedia.com. Register yourself and join their forums to get more information.

I remember a friend from here mention Papago M6 has been released for Windows Mobile. Any idea if HD2 is supported? I read some another forum that it may not be supported as of this moment.

I have Papago X5 running already. M6 seems to be more friendly. Thought of getting it.

Not sure if Papago is available for HD2 now~
*
Papago X5 Mobile Version is already available and working for HD2. Malfreemaps also have maps including junction views for Papago. I'm using it already and its stable and good.

But I read that Papago M6 also out already and supports Windows Mobile. No idea if it works for HD2. Anyone?

papago is excellent on graphics. but navigation accuracy is not as good as garmin. battery is also bad for papago.
*
But their map system is able to distinguish flyovers and underpasses. Garmin doesn't seem to be able to support that. Also they have discontinued development work for Garmin Mobile XT. The last known version is also known to be notorious on power consumption.

But do remember the map system and its database is also important. I wonder how good is Malfreemaps though... But I agree on Papago's inefficiencies in routing. Hopefully M6 bring some improvements?

I bought mine at RM2699  doh.gif

I bought mine at RM2000 but thats a different story hehehe... Anyway this phone doesn't justify its RM2899 retail price tag during its earlier days. Yes it has the biggest screen but then newer alternatives with the same hardware came out a lot lower than that price point. So this price adjustment is good. Not so good for unsuspecting consumers who bought it during the price transition.

bought mine together with a Sam Omnia 2 White for rm 3800. SiS HD2 n Samsung Malaysia Omnia 2.... really liked the feel. this is my first WM phone. had used a pocket pc b4.. the HD2 was really responsive, but its eye candy dept looses to my wife's Omnia 2 uber cool smaller screen....
*
Yes, the Omnia 2 exterior is very nice. But wait till you operate it. Low RAM is a problem.

Guys my dad promise me a phone for my birthday, but he will only be able to get for me the phone on the 26th of this month,so i got lots of time to consider..

So im having a headache now choosing between :-

HTC HD2 or the Moto Milestone/droid..

Pls helpp...
*
Get the HD2. But if you would like to give a try on Android, get the HTC Desire that is coming out soon. Milestone is a nice phone but 256MB RAM is really low by 2010's standard. Wait for the Desire. You'll be a happier person.

For all you custom ROM lovers who would want to have tweaks baked into the ROM, want the latest WM6.5.5 build and want that 576MB of RAM enabled but not the call quality issues,

the custom scene now has a working solution!

Duttys HG-series (COM5 branch) v1.9 available at HTCpedia.com is a perfect ROM. No more call quality issues (at least for me). I'm on Maxis network and everything is crystal clear for me without that background noise. By the way, the ROM is fast. Really fast.

why would you want a BIG HTC logo? the current logo is just nice...  blush.gif
Opera 10 doesn't support pinch zoom. you have to install a third party apps for that.
*
I realized in Opera 10, the images are not rendered as beautiful as on the stock 9.7. I see pixelated or down-scaled artifacts. Maybe its due to the technology using their servers to pre-render websites before delivering to phones?

Hi,

there is no voice in my htc's garmin... how about urs?? does it say out loud??
*
Like the others have said, you have to install the support files from Garmin which includes a wide range of language files. Most likely you installed the core version of the application. You can get this support file from Garmin website.

btw, from what i read in cooked ROM, radio that comes with 2.0x.50.xx is for T-Mobile US. try use radio with 2.0x.51.xx biggrin.gif
*
Yes. HD2 for T-Mobiles are 576MB RAM enabled so their Radio and ROM are different from the rest. T-Mobile HD2s uses .50 series of Radio ROM and HTC 2.10 based ROM. The rest of the world is still on HTC 1.72 based ROM and uses .51 series of Radio ROM. Take note that .50 radio ROM will only work with 2.10 based ROM. They work in pairs, don't mix and match.

If you would like to enabled the hidden RAM on your HD2 (all HD2's total RAM is 448MB while T-Mobile HD2 is 576MB), then you will need a .50 series Radio ROM and a HTC 2.10 based ROM. But what kept people from moving into this territory is because T-Mobile radio ROMs are plagued with call quality issues and its even worse if you're not on T-Mobile network. Recently, this was resolved with a patch. Dutty's HG-series v1.9 custom ROM has included this patch and I have been using it on Maxis network. No problem. Call quality issues have been resolved. And my free RAM is on average more than 250MB thumbup.gif

If you're on a stock ROM, say .51 series radio ROM and a HTC 1.72 based ROM. You should try the 2.09 radio ROM. Very good. nod.gif

I have used and can confirm 2.08.50.08_2 Radio works well with 1.66 and 1.72 base cooked ROM

Dutty latest v2.7 WWE ROM is 1.72 base with 2.09.50.08_2 Radio

Does it enabled 576MB RAM hack? Dutty ROMs are pretty good thumbup.gif

Careful there. You need HSPL 1.42 or 2.00 before proceeding.

Radio 2.08.50.08_2 does not enable 576MB RAM
I have tried 576MB RAM before and it did not improve the processing speed for me and have since reverted back to 448MB.
I suppose the HD2 RAM is big enough to perform most of the task efficiently except maybe gaming, which I don't do.
*
Previously I shy away from 576MB RAM hack because call quality was bad. Now the patch works, there's nothing holding back from having something free even though its not of much use. Granted the HD2 has enormous amount of RAM for WM standards, still its a good feel. Hehehe... I'm cheap... yes... biggrin.gif

By the way, I have a strong feeling the custom ROM community will be able to get WP7 working by Q3 and ahead of official launch.

You should not look at the browsing speed only. WM has more apps, most free, than the other two. brows.gif

But most of the games I wanna play are on iPhone OS sad.gif and Android is fast catching up on that aspect too. tongue.gif
