Full Story

MS Story

Updated 27/2/2005

Microsoft is closing a loophole that enabled unscrupulous resellers to use Windows XP product keys that were stolen from large OEMs. The result: customers who purchase Windows on a new PC will not be able to activate, nor reinstall their operating system without first calling Microsoft.

Starting February 28, Microsoft will indefinitely begin to disable Internet product activation on OEM keys used by the top 20 worldwide PC makers.

It time for OEM to start pre-install PC with Linux Distro. biggrin.gif

Good questions. But no answer yet..

New authentication system will be in placed in middle of the year (June 2005), so wait till then when MS announced the procedures of update XP service packs.

Someone claim that if he enable automatice update ON, then his pirate copies will be updated too even with new authentication system. Unless it was overlook..

Nevertheless, u have Linux with Gnome or KDE with OpenOffice suites as alternative desktop solutions , if MS clamps down on pirates copies.

Precisly said Kons.

That is the reason of this posting, encourage pirates to starting learning and using OSS instead of Windows becos MS is make it difficult for pirates to do service pack update despite claim that blackhat hacker may or may not able to decipher MS new authentication system.

By not offending pirate users, we still persist in our task to convience them to use OSS instead. Becos, it never ending battle between blackhat vs MS changing authentication system when it broken.

If our goverment adjust the software price for example a copy of Windows Xp only about RM50.... then i think should be not a big problem for all the user use original instead on pirated.

Malaysia can do it "MALAYSIA BOLEH !! " Let's encourage goverment lower the software and game price biggrin.gif

Well, at least now when we are calling Microsoft hotline for help, they will need our product key first before answering our question...

The voice of the lady on the phone was sweet though...

Getting an original copy of Windows won't be that difficult, save up save up. As long as there is P* versions of Visual Studio, I guess it is more than enough.

P/S: debiankl, since you are an avid linux user, I can't imagine how you got my name wrong. Linux is quite sensitive on these inputs, you know.

Good feedback.

In fact there is a XP (Asian Edition) or Starter Edition (US$38.00) target and OEM PC manufacturer that has been shipping Linux pre-installed instead of XP. But many claim Starter Edition was a retraded version of XP Professional biggrin.gif or it did not take off in the market. Nobody want to be down graded to Starter Edition onces they have experienced XP Prof.

By using any Linux Distro, you have full features and functions nothing being compromise and for FREE or just purchase the CD's for media and handling cost.

Good sense of humor.. biggrin.gif

OS.. FREE for LESS. Any Linux Distro u choose will offer you all the basic needs for computing either for office wordprocess...etc.. , programming, games (limited, but UT 2004 avaliable), and multimedia. Thus technical support of FREE OS mainly comes from its community and user groups.

There are commercial version of Linux Distro that offer u techical support should you need technical assistance at a resonable fee.

Customers who visit the manual Windows Update site will be asked to prove that their copies of Windows are legitimate by allowing Microsoft's system to automatically run a check, or by providing a product identification number. Users who have lost that number will be asked three basic questions, and if they are deemed to be acting in good faith they will be given a free replacement key

hehehehe drool.gif

totally agree about the pricing, no one would even get the pirated once if the price is affordable sweat.gif

See? Don't know why linux internet connection so reliable and fast to compare with xp sp2 one. I guess that's just another reason why people migrated from windows to linux. wink.gif
