Here's my 2 cents of the issue, the best reason for buying not pirated games is to ensure that the content owner ie. the studios gets paid for their investment in people and production of the game. If they get paid the company continues to exist thus creating more games for the consumers. Besides keeping the studios afloat we ie. the gamers will have the privilege to play online especially on the current gen consoles. In another perspective, before we gamers go splurging on games, we do our research first to ensure that we'll be getting our money's worth for a single title and ensuring that we'd be entertained for hours and weeks before hunting for the next game to play.

Buying original is much more better and worth it even tho' at a pricey price..

So, those who said it is dumb to buy original games, they are just jealous and envious because you can buy original games and they couldn't.

If I were like you, I would say," So what? Using my money mah, not yours. So, why do you care?" Sure they will shut up one..

So, just continue enjoying the original games lah. Just ignore those envious flies..

I feel dumb buying original games when the original games I buy :

1) Has bugs/glitches but the developer did not fix them (silent hill 5, ffx international, genji on ps3, fatal frame 4 etc)

2) The price quickly drop after I buy it. Or Play Asia give big discount after I buy it.

3) The game is lousy and not worth the money I paid for.

Besides that, I am happy to buy and own them

If they come over to play my PS3 but still saying craps about original games, I might as well lock my PS3 away in my room and bring out PS2 for them to play (which I have few original games)..

true...i oso feel cheated when they want us to buy extra costumes/moves/items through DLC when they could have included it in the 1st place.....DLC tat is sort of expansions/episodes is fine...but not items/characters.....

i dont really care about the DLC's because the developers have created a game that is already complete. there is no need for them to put in extra effort for costumes when they dont have to. think about it this way~ if you were a game developer and finished the game already, would you spend an extra few thousand dollars and a few weeks to release an extra costume or item? no need right? so just put as DLC, if you dont want it you dont need it. if you want it you buy it lah.

well i dunno about you, but for me its like if i want that game no 1 could stop me from buying it, if you dont have the $ its either to go 2nd hand or go for rental. if those 2 are not an option for you, then its best you work hard with an motivation of getting that game.

it will make you treasure the game when you buy it with yr hard earn money.

i notice ppl who plays pirate games dont actually finished all thier games. ppl who buys original mostly finish them clean before selling it off.

this is also why most of the developers dont include full content in the game because of pirates. example: dragon age, they would be missing the blood dragon armor(free code) & the Golem Shale(free code). (soldier's peak is only for limited edition), now we are about to get "Return of Ostagar" & the next expansion on March 16, which the pirate user has no access to, unless they come out with an expansion disc.

my point is the game already contains those extra stuff...y shud we pay extra to get those items already in the disc.......eg characters tat have been developed and included in the disc (SCIV) y shud i pay to unlock yoda?? the same goes to costumes/items....those r already in the game.....meaning we hav paid for those items.....

i guess so. if its already made and put into the disc you should have access to it considering you own the disc. sometimes i really wanna ketuk those developers. really inconsiderate. at least make an unlock achievement or sumthin. with choice of purchase if person doesnt want to attempt the challenge.

imagine being at home in the dark, jobless, unable to pay the bills and feed his hungry family because people are buying the game he dedicated his sweat, blood and tears for RM10 instead of RM100.

then ask him again if he/she think buying ori game is dumb or not.

to put it in another perspective, imagine your boss firing you because someone is offering 10% of your salary for EXACTLY the same thing you do. in fact, that someone copied what you did/can do and is offering it for 10% of your salary.

You know what? If that happens, you have the rights to sue the company for wrongful termination. They need to talk to you and have you agree to the termination. And even then they will have to pay you compensation and give you time to get a new job. Most have a post-termination period of 1-2 months, where you're expected to document what you did so far. Feeling POed? Don't document completely- spend more time on hunting for new jobs via JobsDB or Jobstreet or Monster or whatever. If they don't give you post-termination period, my advice is find a lawyer or complain to labor union. That company have violated labor laws.

As for buying pirate, put this way laa. You buy cheap and a lot. But enjoyment factor also less... Too many game, cannot concentrate on finishing one... That's my experience. Also, my experience tells me pirate games got all those intro screens. Do you want to sit through irritating music with screen full of cuss words? Do you want your children to see that?

And then for some very involving games like RPGs, cutscene movies may be removed, BGM/voiceovers may be missing, features removed and some just plain randomly crash at random points and dun let you finish the game due to cheap media and/or poor QC (or overlooked copy protection). And if the game comes with freebies like figures or accessories, expect to not have them too and buy them separately, because games that comes with accessories will often need the accessory in question anyway.

Plus, buy pirate got fear of being caught if you buying suddenly BSA serbu the shop. Also, for console to play pirate game need to mod. And if you mod, you not only lose warranty, if the manufacturer catch you (by firmware update) your console can end up potentially "self destruct" (we use the term "bricked") or blocked from online service. You're in a lose-lose situation, you don't update firmware, you cannot play newer games. You update, your firmware may brick. Yes, a lot of latest gen console games can play online against people all over the world or with friends. If you buy pirate, you effectively put your console and yourself at risk if you play online. If you can at all because they can block pirate games. Even if you find online gaming pointless, the others in your family wouldn't (particularly latest generation, who're very used to the idea of meeting friends online even if you're not. Even women of last gen are already warming up to the idea of online meetings and talking to friends over internet than over phone).

Think about that. Take it from someone who have experienced the dark side and have denounced it.

ah, its such a hard argument actually considering in malaysia to buy a game it costs rm160-180, whereas overseas in their currency its equivalent to rm40-50 if looking at it from dollar to dollar perspective.

That's the problem with a lot of people here. Conditioned to compare the price using RM to USD. Although that's only half of the story. The other half is unscrupulous dealers: harga tak turun even after game no longer popular. Those are same dealers that carry *ahem* stuff. You still expect me to buy Metal Slug Anthology for Wii at RM199 even after 4 years of launch? Sorry, I rather turn to eBay. Too bad the average Malaysian does not trust/know how to use online shopping either.

well you cannot blame the dealers for not lowering the price. i mean after all they did pay for the game to have it in stock. so why sell it at a loss as people are still asking about it. as for online shopping, lots of people dont do online shopping because of trust. and even if you do trust the system, everyone hates the ketam that will hold your dvd/bd/game whatever. this i think is the biggest problem with people shopping online. i hate ordering stuff from overseas because of ketam.

My say:

Knowledge has no expensive or cheap price. I'd rather educate my children on the meaning of value than abuse the system just to avoid being called dumb. Besides, one who learns of true value is wiser than does who don't.

its dumb to buy RETAIL BOX games at RETAIL PRICES!... i buy steam games at 80% discount.. i got GTA 4 for 7 USD = RM30 .. i get all the updates, latest patches and stuff.. which is much better gaming experience then playing the pirated version which hangs and lags + no updates!
