After millennia in hiding, Mina Tepes, the Princess of the ancient covenant and ruler of all vampires, wants change. Now, on the eve of the landmark press conference announcing the existence of vampires to the world, terrorists and rival factions are plotting to assassinate Mina Tepes before she has a chance to make her world-changing announcement.

The story revolves around Mina Tepes, princess-ruler of all vampires, and her "protector," Akira. Like other vampires, Mina has been in hiding with her people for many years. Seeking to end centuries of isolation, Mina gains permission to create a special district for vampires, "The Bund", off the coast of Japan by paying off the national debt of the Japanese government. Mina then reveals to the world the existence of vampires and her desire for both races to live together. Tensions, however, run high as fearful humans and extremist vampire factions begin to interfere with Mina's wish for peace with the human world.

erm.. the manga did start out like that.... because it was very short, so most people don't notice it, and probably a lot of people would drop it because of this Ep01.. they need to watch more anime to understand this episode

im currently reading the manga.. and, it did not start out like the anime.. imo, the way the manga started is better than the anime..

well.. the first episode is just an introduction to their world and stuff, instead of a prelude, no?

after giving you it's introduction, the main story starts.. okay~ maybe it's not anime style to have this kinda introduction, guess they just want to be different since it's from SHAFT...

SHAFT wise, I am extremely dissapointed. And dissapointed in SHAFT is something that I can rarely say

Sabar, sabar. Shaft has been doing too much crazy stupid animations for the past 2 years. I mean, look at zetsubou sensei, maria holic and that stapler fetish anime. Moving away from that to mainstream-style animation is sure to be a b**** for those in-between animators.

i almost dropped the series during the 1st 15 minutes. but i suck up the energy and finishes the 1st ep anyway. hopefully the episodes to come will be great. i didnt read the manga but people whom opinions matters say the manga is good.

Ep 1 was bad. NVM, just give it another chance.
But, ep 2 turns out to be bad too.
Maybe not my type of anime. And I have a feeling that the story is going nowhere other than fanservice, ecchi scenes, fillers and lame prince-protects-princess storyline. So yeah, most probably gonna drop this.

I think I would be the only one who actually think ep1 wasn't that bad

well, manga does have it charm. but anime ver has voice, making it twice as moe. i mean, horo without voice and horo without voice, which turn you on more?

exactly. animation, vibrant colors, sound, voice, music, CG, 3DCG, everything.

although voice aside, in particularly horo, i prefer the anime art. to a certain point i even hated the manga art, which ive slowly gotten to accept and eventually love.

yeah, it all boils down to how much effort the studio put in, the production cost, etc. something that is good in the manga can be killed by crappy animation, like 2nd season of gunslinger girl something that didnt exist.
