It is good marketing to launch at midnight. If launch at regular office hour, they will get regular newspaper coverage. If launch at midnight, they might be able to get TV coverage as well, as a news.

I am still hopelessly waiting for the white iPhone 4, now it is not about Maxis/Digi, but Apple/Foxconn lousy production

i dont tihnk so on the Bold part. this is more to marketing strategy
they purposely want you to get 2nd iphone, instead make you have choices at the starting

you do realize they said waaay earlier there was problem with the white coating on the white iphone? does apple really need marketing tricks like this for the iPhone? we are talking about apple here anything that they make will sell.
